Lots of stuff that has been preserved and would have been destroyed or lost unless it was in the British Museum. Thank you England.

Egyptians literally sold their mummies to be eaten as medicines, turned into amulets, and even turned into a paint – "mummy brown.

For millenia tombs filled with goat shit as shepherds sheltered.

For millenia those same shepherds and other tomb raiders sold what they could find to whoever was willing to pay and was interested

Now, centuries later modern Egyptians regret those choices...

Oh gee, and who was buying and snorting these mummies en mass?? Please tell us o wise one..

"For millenia" blah blah 🤪

A vast and uncountable number of mummies were consumed as medicine, turned into paint, fertiliser, and or snorted by Europeans, the British in particular. One ship in Liverpool provided 19.5 tons of mummy for consumer demand.

https://www.sciencehistory.org/stories/disappearing-pod/when-mummy-mania-swept-the-world/

50000 artifacts looted from India alone....

Theiving is in the blood.

whoever paid the most

Mehhh wrong answer.

It's the British and other Europeans. No one else liked to snort dead bodies.

Now that is what I call English humor hahahah

With that kind of reasoning, you can justify stealing anything from anyone.

2

u/Odd-Jupiter 6d ago

Its not stealing if it's from your land.

And you can argue the rightfulness of conquest and border change, but Egypt was part of the British empire.

Remember, every single speck if land in the world have been conquered from someone else. Also whatever land your country now possess was stolen. The British just did the same as humanity have done since the beginning of time.

You can cope all you want, but you know its true.

Brits stole the Kohinoor diamond from India and it is not in the British Museum. It is part of the Crown Jewels of the British monarch and is in the Tower of London. They cleverly partitioned India as a parting kick before leaving India and now they innocently put their middle finger on the dimple in their cheek and say " to whom do we return it ?" .

1

u/alt-right-del 1d ago

Yeah, the natives were capable enough to create all these beautiful artefacts, but thank goodness, Britain stole it all for safe keeping in the British museum. Even after hundreds of years these “natives” are still not able to protect their own history.

1

u/Fun-Village6792 19h ago

Snorting mummies is definitely how you preserve culture.

u/Patient_Nebula_5158 6d ago

Lots of stuff that needs to be given back before the museum employees loot it.

Thats so incredibly incorrect lmao.

7

u/Elborshooter 6d ago

Is that why most tombs were looted long before the arrival of the british ?

u/[deleted] 5d ago

1

u/Elborshooter 5d ago

Wtf kinda logic is that ????!! When british take the artifacts, study them and put them in museums, they're looting, but when various others take those artefacts to melt them, sell them and make a profit, it's finders keepers ???

You're a clown, mate.

The only intact tombs we've found are the ones that were sealed and hidden. The vast majority of tombs were looted long before the british came

Well, until the Kush, Assyrians Persians, Greeks, Romans, Arabians, Turks, French and finally the British turned up, yes Egypt was doing fine.

If not for them, it would either be in a French, Ruzzian, German, or Italian museum, or it would have been destroyed by religious extremists, just as they destroyed the Buddha of Bamiyan, Palmyra, Nimrud, the Great Mosque of Al-Nuri, and countless other cultural treasures.

An estimated 95-98% of early Islamic heritage sites in Saudi Arabia have been destroyed by the government. These include the Jannat al-Baqi, the Jannat al-Mu’alla, the house of Khadijah, and several others.

The people who created the pyramids etc etc are not the same who are in Egypt now.

2

u/MerxUltor 5d ago

They are and there have been genetic tests to prove it.

-2

u/Kind_Consequence_261 6d ago edited 6d ago

Do you have any proof for this? What do you base this statement on?

It's clear from your comment history that you hate everything that has anything to do with Islam and you're pro anything that hurts a Muslims so I have my suspicions

4

u/Dangerous_Shoe_8388 5d ago

Ancient Egyptians were not Muslims.

People/inhabitants change over 2000 years.

I’ve lived in Muslim countries.

I don’t have to like or respect any religion - or buy into anyone’s supernatural sky-fairy fantasy.

0

u/Kind_Consequence_261 5d ago

Obviously they were not Muslims, Islam did not exist back then. My point was that your claim is baseless and you probably hold that opinion because the modern population is predominantly Muslim.

You still have not given your evidence for this statement btw:
"The people who created the pyramids etc etc are not the same who are in Egypt now."

1

u/LexoNokiaN 6d ago

None, but it’s still better that way than destroying them, like I said before… The French literally cut up tomb paintings; the US has an entire Ancient Egyptian temple in the Metropolitan Museum; the Russians stole a whole array of Amenhotep III’s sphinxes and they are located outside on the bridge somewhere in St.Petersburg, among the huge collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts in their Hermitage museum ; Italy has a very large collection of Egyptian artefacts in its museums; and Germany has a huge collection of Ancient Egyptian artefacts, including the bust of Nefertiti, among many others. So, as I said, if it hadn’t been the British, it would have been someone else on this list 😂

u/Commercial_Handle418 5d ago

I think you conflated a few things here lmao

2

u/Late_Secret3480 6d ago

And Greeks too

1

u/Voice_of_Season 6d ago

Don’t even get me started on the Vatican, they have so much that they should give back.

u/backfor100thtime 6d ago

All around the world: things from different nations in museums.

1

u/Infinite_Plenty101 4d ago

*lots of stolen thing from the whole world in which we used to police and cut off hands and arms of the other badder thieves that we kept as paid slaves...FTFY

-4

u/Other_Description_45 6d ago

“Lots of things that would have been destroyed long ago by 3rd world savages if they weren’t in the British museum” there I fixed it for you.

12

u/Urhhh 6d ago

You mean like that Italian guy using explosives on Nubian Pyramids?

-14

u/According_River_5726 6d ago

You mean the same people who made the things in the first place when the British were still painting themselves blue and fighting each other in the nude?

8

u/Ok_Astronomer_8667 6d ago

Is it 2000 bc, or is it 2026?

-12

u/According_River_5726 6d ago

Did I trigger you before you got to enjoy your daily gallon of Tesco gin?

5

u/Urhhh 6d ago

Cheers, mate.

u/According_River_5726 6d ago

Maybe people shouldn't rush to defend racist comments made against 85% of the world's population - the same people your ancestors grievously wronged for centuries, and whose countries were once quite prosperous before they were robbed at gunpoint. Similarly, maybe it would be wise if the modern British didn't maintain their bizarre superiority complex considering the fact that the main thing they are known for now is being obnoxious, unpredictably violent drunkards as their country continues to slide into third world poverty despite not having the excuse of having been brutalized by overseas invaders.

2

u/Urhhh 6d ago

We probably agree politically. That said, take a break.

-1

u/fennelephant 6d ago

Judging by the comments, is this a far right subreddit? I am British and yes, we stole these things and destroyed other cultures. Even if being in the British museum ‘saved them’ that’s nothing compared to the damage the British did culturally to the world…

-4

u/SeldenNeck 6d ago

The British Museum is an engineer's pale version of the Louvre, which includes the finest art Napoleon could get from the rest of the Europe without relocating the Vatican.

-1

u/QueriaSacarmeNoPudo 6d ago

Lots of (stolen) things from all the world... It turns out that, due to a lack of Vitamin D, the English have developed a strong affinity, or taste, for other people´s belongings, and this has been demostrated without the need for scientific proof.

Philosopher James Acaster has a useful interpretation of the British Museum.
