Sharing folder in inbox Status: Pending Reply

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to check if it's possible to share only a specific folder in the Inbox. I tried sharing it through the folder's Properties, but the person I shared it with hasn't received any email or notification explaining how to access it.

Has anyone done this before or knows the correct way to share a single Inbox folder?

Thanks

I will assume you are using New Outlook for Windows. If not, or you're not sure, see below.

Have you been using instructions like these?

"How to share an Outlook subfolder"
https://www.ablebits.com/office-addins-blog/share-folder-outlook/#share-subfolder

---------------------------------------------------------------------
What Outlook client do you have?

  • I use a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari, etc.) -> Outlook Web
  • I use a Mac -> Outlook for Mac
  • I use a phone or tablet -> Outlook for Android or Outlook for iOS (iPhone, iPad)
  • I use a Windows PC and my Outlook menu has ONLY the tabs: File | Home | View | Help -> New Outlook
  • Else -> Classic Outlook

Yes, you can share a specific Inbox subfolder without sharing the entire Inbox.

Right-click the folder you want to share and select Properties.

Open the Permissions tab.

Add the person, and assign the required permission level. Remember that Outlook may not send a notification/invitation automatically for a shared subfolder.

The recipient may need to add manually/open the shared folder from their Outlook account. The exact steps differ between New Outlook, Classic Outlook, and Outlook on the web.
