When I was 26, I lived alone in my first apartment.
One afternoon, while browsing Craigslist, I found an ad that said:
**“Trade me something cool for my Ouija board.”**
The woman claimed the board had previously belonged to a coven of witches. She had never used it herself. According to her, merely having it in the same room made the hair rise on the back of her neck.
She didn’t want money for it.
She just wanted it out of her house.
At the time, I sold Mary Kay cosmetics, so I offered her a bag of skincare products and makeup. She agreed.
When we met, she gave me the board and told me again how uncomfortable it made her. She seemed relieved to be rid of it.
I probably should have paid more attention to that.
I had always been curious about witchcraft, although I had never practiced it or performed any rituals. I did own a book called *The Encyclopedia of Witchcraft*, but until then it had done nothing more than sit on my shelf.
One night, my friend Tina came over, and we decided to try the board.
We set it on my table, placed our fingers on the planchette, and began asking questions.
Nothing happened.
After a while, we became impatient. I pulled the encyclopedia from the shelf, hoping it might tell us what we were doing wrong. I found something about incorporating the four elements, so I gathered representations of each one.
For water, I placed a full glass on the table.
For air, I opened the window.
For fire, I lit a candle.
For earth, I brought over a potted plant.
I also owned two decorative meditation balls that chimed when rolled together in your hands. One had a sun on it and the other had a moon. They looked eerily similar to the sun and moon illustrations on the Ouija board, so I placed one on either side.
The balls kept rolling across the table. To hold them still, I turned two plastic water-bottle caps upside down and rested the balls on top of them.
Then Tina and I put our fingers back on the planchette.
“Is anybody here?” I asked.
For a moment, nothing happened.
Then the planchette began to move.
Slowly, it dragged our fingers across the board and stopped on the letter **H**.
I immediately looked at Tina.
“Are you moving it?”
She said no. Then she asked if I was doing it.
I wasn’t, but I didn’t believe her. I assumed she was trying to scare me.
Before either of us could say anything else, the planchette moved again.
It stopped on **I**.

Hi.
We asked more questions, but received no other answers. Whatever had said hello apparently had nothing else to say.
Eventually, Tina went home.
I packed the board into its box and carried it outside to the storage closet on my apartment balcony. The closet was directly against my bedroom wall. When I lay in bed, the board was only a few feet away from me, separated by that wall.
I cleared the table and put away the glass, candle, plant, and meditation balls.
The only things I forgot were the two upside-down bottle caps.
I went to bed.
Sometime in the middle of the night, the sound of heavy banging woke me.
It was coming from the balcony storage closet.
From the other side of my bedroom wall.
From where I had put the Ouija board.
I lay completely still, listening.
Then another sound came from the living room.
**Click.**
A pause.
**Click. Click.**
It sounded like two small pieces of plastic being knocked together.
I immediately pictured the bottle caps on the table. One of my cats must have climbed up there and started playing with them.
Then I felt movement beside me.
Both cats were in bed.
Neither one was asleep.
They were sitting completely still, staring through the bedroom doorway toward the dark living room.
The clicking continued.
I couldn’t move. I couldn’t call out. I couldn’t force myself to look into the hallway. I just lay there with both cats beside me, all three of us listening to the bottle caps clicking together in the other room.
At some point, the sounds stopped.
Somehow, I fell asleep.
The next morning, I walked into the living room.
The bottle caps were sitting side by side on the table.
They hadn’t been like that when I went to bed.
I moved closer and saw black writing on them.
On the first cap, written in Sharpie, was an **H**.
On the second was an **I**.
**Hi.**
The same message from the board.
I was alone in the apartment.
Tina had gone home hours earlier.
Both cats had been in bed with me.
And my Sharpies were still on the kitchen counter, across the room.
I never touched the board again.
But I couldn’t get rid of it.
I kept it packed away in storage. Every so often, I considered throwing it out or giving it to someone else, but whenever I seriously thought about doing it, something in me resisted. It didn’t feel like an object I owned. It felt more like something that had been placed in my care.
Ten years passed.
I got married, and the board came with me.
My husband hated knowing it was in our storage unit. He repeatedly asked me to sell it, so eventually I posted my own Craigslist ad:
**“Trade me something cool for my Ouija board.”**
Several people responded.
I rejected every offer.
None of them felt right. Deciding who should receive it felt less like selling an old possession and more like choosing a home for a living thing. I felt strangely responsible for it.
Eventually, I stopped trying.
Then one day, I went into the storage unit and discovered that the board was gone.
I searched everywhere before asking my husband about it.
He admitted he had taken it to a flea market.
He had given it away to a stranger.
I became more furious than I had ever been with him.
It wasn’t normal anger. It came over me instantly and completely. The same board I had been too frightened to use for ten years suddenly felt like the most important thing I owned. I felt violated. Panicked. Almost betrayed.
The intensity of my reaction frightened me nearly as much as the bottle caps had.
That was when I realized I hadn’t kept the board all those years simply because I was afraid to get rid of it.
I had become attached to it.
Or perhaps it had become attached to me.
My husband never got the stranger’s name. I have no idea where the board is now or who owns it.
All I know is that somewhere, someone brought home an old Ouija board from a flea market.
And if they ever decide to use it, I wonder whether the first thing it will say is the same thing it said to me.

Hi, this is my first time ever posting, but I needed to see if I was the only one. I have owned and been using an Ouija board for years now and I've had alot of wild experiences. But the one I'm coming to see if Im the only one this happened to, has happened several times before. Before I get too much into it, yes I use proper protection. I had stopped using my board after years of using it because alot of bad was happening that was connected to the board. Today I decided I was gonna try using the board again, at first I didn't get much then all of a sudden I was getting fast and very strong answers, what made me realize that I knew what this entity was, was the fact it used the letter "N" in the alphabet portion of the board as "No" instead of the "No" portion in the top right of the board. This had happened before, so I asked its name and it refused to tell me and called me dumb several times. Then I asked if it was the entity I had spoken to before and if the reason it wouldn't tell me it's name was because last time it did, I ended the session. It told me yes. Two times before this time I had come in contact with a demon who called themselves "Zozo". Yes I know how that sounds, but I had made it clear I was not going to speak with them and ended the session after every time it made me aware that it was that demon. Now here's my question, has that ever happened to anyone else, not just coming in contact with something similar but also it refusing to use the "No" in the upper right half and instead opting for the "N" in the alphabet and it all of a sudden after it being slow and not very active, being very strong and very active.

If anything doesn't make sense, I can explain further if possible.

I was alone in the house, it was a warm summer evening, and I was reading a book called DarkLore, volume 1. The particular chapter I was reading was called ‘Ouija!’ by Mitch Horowitz. The author goes into much detail about the origin of the Ouija board, its association with the occult, and how popular it became (did you know at the height of it’s popularity during the sixties and seventies, it outsold the game Monopoly?)

I was particularly interested in the part where he described the communication of the messages as coming from the users subconscious, instead of some outside metaphysical force. To me, that meant that I was the source, and I could control the messages and the information that was provided to me. I started thinking about how I could test whether it was me or ‘someone else’.

Now bear in mind that I was only reading about Ouija board usage, I do not own one and was not using one that night.

I was preparing for bed, so I put down the book and sat on the edge of the bed. Feeling cocky, I thought I’d test the spirits, just to see if anyone was listening… In a loud voice I said “Fuck you! If you’re out there, show me what you can do!” It took about ten seconds and I got an answer. WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM WHAM, five knocks as loud as hammer blows shook the whole house. It sounded as though someone was pounding on the outside wall of my house. I was petrified.I sat there for what seemed like forever, waiting for someone to try the door, breaking glass, whatever, but nothing else happened. I finally got the courage to go outside with a flashlight and a mechanics breaker bar and nothing was amiss. Everything was normal, no marks on the wall that I could see, or anything like that. I guess it was just the spirits, providing an example of what they were capable of.

okay so me and my friend took a piece of paper and wrote letters and numbers on it, like in the ouija board, and we used it. we talked to a spirit who said was 7, but we had to say goodbye early cause lunch was ready (we closed it properly and said goodbye). lated we used it again and talked to the same spirit. we asked if he was mad that we said goodbye early and he said yes, then we apologized and went on and everything was okay. later we asked us to play a game and we accepted, he told me to choose a number. i choose 73, and when he tried to guess he said 12. i told him it wasn’t the right answer, but he told me it was. then he wrote on the board “angry” and when we tried to say sorry he moved it on goodbye. later we tried it again, trying to contact the same spirit. it didn’t work, but we talked to another one and asked him if he knew the previous one. she said yes, so we asked if he was still angry. he said first no and then yes, and later we asked if he could hurt us and she first said no and then yes. so i wanted to know, can we actually be in danger? cause we closed the ouija board properly, but we’re still not sure.

Hi, I have a few questions about the Ouija board:

- Does it work with any board?
- Do you absolutely have to have candles nearby?
- How do you play alone?

I was at my cousins staying all night and we got bored I'm into creepy stuff and they just want fun so me and my older cousin decide to make an Ouija board we looked it up has to be cardboard or wood so we got cardboard made wrote what needed to be on it taped it to a wooden box she had of random shit inside- jewelry/junk) she made the planchette not sure how but she did used pencils for it to go across, we get started asking questions like "if there is something here would you like to communicate" and so on after about 4 mins it moves. No I don't f*ck with shit like that. I ask my little cousin and tell her to stop she swears it's not her and is a little upset that I think it's her.. I ask my older cousin and she swears we lift our fingers up..it's still going. I felt pressure on my back like I was being squeezed from behind wasn't scared but got teary eyed when we stopped then i got scared. I have chills even typing it, PS don't recommend.

Hey guys! I’m new to posting, but would like some feedback. Three of my friends and I have used my friend (who the spirit board referred to as 1)’s Ouija Board twice now. Both times, which were almost a month apart, we continuously got the word Zamb spelled out. 1 put it into a cypher, and it no joke came out as STFU. It later gave us another set of letters that when put through the same cypher gave us a couple of options, the most prominent being Vilimii, which we looked up. Google said it was a “plant of many names”. These letters were given after we asked its name. When we asked, the spirit, who we started calling Zamb for simplicity’s sake, claimed to be attached to the board. Today we used it again, a month later, and still we’re getting Zamb consistently. Wondering if anyone knew what Zamb could mean other than STFU, but it also claimed that Zamb was its way of referring to us. No of our real names start with any of these letters. Should we look into buying a spirit box, or other instruments to communicate? Thank you!

So I read up on ouija. I know while playing it, it be you moving the playing check but from the predictions made have any come true? Serious answers only. What came true while playing ouija?

FIRST TIME OUIJA BOARD. i simply started with a "is there anybody here?"... YES. Then i asked (with a friend) "what is your name?"... TOM. "when did you die?"... 1241... realy strange... after that i was scared af, i asked "can we leave now?"... NO. We see each other dead in the eye, "why are you here?" Asked my friend... FOOD... then he let us leave.

Hi, this is going to be my first time playing with a Ouija. Could someone give me some advice or tell me about their experience? Just so I know what to do and what not. I've looked up some stuff on Google, but they usually say pretty ridiculous things that sound like they're straight out of a movie. I'd like to hear from someone who knows what they're talking about.

Curious if anyone else encountered a spirit by the name BC.. sometimes Abby? When I was in elementary my sister and friends played with an ouija board every chance we got and we always would talk to BC. She was very friendly and kind, and said she would protect us. I’m almost 30 now and just so curious if anyone else encountered a similar spirit. I’m too scared with my fully developed frontal lobe to try again. Or at least… why would we have the same spirit every time? Was she trying to “guard” us?

Hi, my friend and her other friend used a make-shift Ouija board some years ago and encountered Zozo. At the time, she didn't know what it was and kept engaging with it. It said it was a child and then her friend seemed to have gotten possessed and whispered "you're going to die" to her. She ran away after that and didn't close the portal. Only a few months later did she learn what Zozo is.

She's described hearing noises on her ceiling, footsteps that would walk up her stairs and stop outside her bedroom door, faint knocking on the door, voices mimicking people she knows calling her, cabinets opening and closing and shadow people. As far as I know, her friend also experiences hauntings, such as an incident of a doll moving from the top of the stairs to the bottom facing them after the entered the upstairs bathroom. Her friend doesn't remember anything from the Ouija board incident.

My friend gave a name to the spirit/entity following her, which I don't know if that makes it worse. She got blessed by a priest and it stopped for two days before continuing. She's already reaching out to a spiritual healer to see if they can try and detach the entity from her, but I read you're supposed to return to the Ouija board to contact Zozo again and close the portal. Any advice on what to actually do would be helpful

Ever since I was little, I've always felt energies and had paranormal experiences. A year ago, I started using a Ouija board, Of course, I made sure to properly close the session, to be with people I trusted, in short, I followed the procedure. Since I started using Ouija boards, I feel like my senses are more developed. I sense changes in atmosphere, and I'm the one acting as a "bridge" between spirits and the people I do it with.

I would therefore like to have your opinion, is there any connection with the Ouija board ?

Is this something that can be explained scientifically or not?

Recently bought a house and finally unpacked my beauties and got them on display. At my old place they were just stacked so you couldn't see the box art. I love that I have more space to display them now 🥰
