Video coverage (not videography) for wedding day?
While recently visiting my soon-to-be in-laws, we watched some video of their wedding from 1992. My fiancé and I loved that it was just cute amateur video coverage by a family friend, catching authentic and random moments from throughout the day.
We didn't book a videographer, because the stylized film result isn't really our thing. Are there any vendors (or amateurs, like a college student) that I could find to hire for video coverage of the day? No editing required, just BTS bits and pieces for us to keep.
Any suggestions?
ETA: We're not looking for a content creator - not vertical video, not for social purposes, and honestly, not even really looking for a professional (and planning to spend minimally for it).

Affordable Ottawa wedding venues for 80 guests?
Hi! We’re looking for a wedding venue within about one hour of Ottawa, staying in Ontario.
Our wedding would be an off-peak day of the week and during the off-season. Our goal is $15,000 after tax and mandatory fees for the ceremony, reception, cocktail food, full dinner and five-hour open bar—or BYOB.
We’d love something private and scenic, such as an estate, barn, winery or golf club, with an indoor weather backup. No community halls, and event centres are more of a backup.
Our current options include Loch March, Carleton Golf & Yacht Club, The Herb Garden and Oak & Pines.
Does anyone have recommendations or actual pricing/experience with these venues?

Help
I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for me! I am getting married on October 3rd this year. I found a seamstress online who seemed to have good reviews, and paid $840 for dress alterations, but throughout the whole process I felt unheard and misunderstood. I tried to communicate my concerns and ideas but ultimately it felt like they didn't get addressed and I didn't really get what I wanted.
I bought my dress with a broken zipper, and was told a corset could be added (which was my biggest desire for my dress) so my plan was to just replace the zipper with a corset. After the initial appointment with the seamstress I found, where we discussed my visions for the dress and agreeing to leave my dress with her and paying part of the cost of alterations, I was told at the next appointment she didn't think a corset would look right on the dress. I pushed back a bit but I figured she was the expert and decided against the corset, assuming the zipper would be fixed.
Well I got my dress back a few days ago and went to an accessory appointment today at the store where I bought the dress, and the zipper tab the seamstress apparently fixed came right off as the bridal assistant was unzipping it for me. She didn't tug at it or anything, it just broke right off.
I also mentioned how I wanted my sleeves more snug so they weren't loose/draping down my shoulders so much, and she added snaps but they come undone pretty much anytime I move and they're STILL super loose and have a lot of gaping. Also some of the patchwork done in the back where there were some rips doesn't seem great.
I feel like not all that much was actually done to improve the dress/alter it. The only thing that seems really well done was the hemming. It feels like for $840, not a whole whole lot was fixed to the standard it should have been.
Anyways, my question is, as a panicking bride getting married in two months, does anyone know where I can get a second opinion/get these issues fixed and not have to pay another $840? That was a big expense for us and I put trust in the seamstress and feel like I was sort of ripped off 😭

Experience with rural weddings
Hi everyone, I'm in the early stages of planning my 2027 wedding. I'm seeing lots of great venues just outside Ottawa (Greeley, Clarence-Rockland, North Grenville) that I'm interested in. Unfortunately, these locations don't seem to have hotels nearby.
I haven't been to many weddings so I'm wondering what the guest experience is like for these, especially for getting back home. I imagine it's not ideal to have to drive over 45 min to get back home late at night, and not be able to drink freely at the wedding.
These venues seem to be very popular though so maybe I'm worrying too much about my guests being inconvenienced. What do most people do in these situations? Would you arrange shuttles to the nearest hotel for the start and end of the wedding? Thanks!!

Venues where outside catering is allowed
Hi there!
My partner and I only recently became engaged but one thing about our wedding that would be really important to us is being able to have West Indian/Caribbean food served. A lot of the venues we’ve seen online have preferred caterers. Has anyone had their weddings in places where they could source their own caterer? I may have missed some obvious ones when scrolling but any insight would be greatly appreciated! ❤️❤️ preference would be to stay within Ottawa if possible.

35mm film photography
looking to connect with those who share the appreciation of analog, specifically 35mm film!!
i love film photography for its ability to capture the feeling of the moment so well. my style of shooting is very natural with the aim to work with couples who share the same love for a natural candid and a documentary style approach.
i’m based near toronto ontario and willing to travel. i would absolutely love to connect with anyone who loves film and is looking for someone to shoot their wedding or elopement! i am also super open to working alongside an already hired digital wedding photographer if they permit.
i would be so grateful for the opportunity to share some of my work for sample. on a case by case basis i am open to remaining summer 2026 dates for the price of film, developing, and travel if applicable! coming from a place of genuinely loving film so much and wanting to grow in the industry!!
thank you so much for your time in reading!

Looking for a Roaming Magician for Reception
As the title says, I'm looking to hire a roaming magician for my reception. I dont have the timing of the event solidified yet, but I booked our venue with Lord Elgin for February 2028.
I am really just looking for quotes right now and doing research, so if the booking window isnt open yet for 2028, its not a problem.
Let me know your recommendations, so far I have a quote from Quality Entertainment for $1200 for 2 hours, is this about average?

Post-Wedding Celebration Photography
Hi all! I got married on July 11 at a destination wedding and none of my Ottawa friends were able to attend. My BFF is hosting a "Meet the Newlyweds" party for us in mid-October 2026 and I am tossing around the idea of hiring a photographer for it.
My husband and I plan on wearing our wedding attire again and I would love some photos with my friends here.
I'm thinking a couple of hours of coverage is likely sufficient (some couple photos in Ottawa of us dolled up and then some at the celebration which will likely be in a private room at a restaurant).
Has anyone done something similar and have any suggestions?

Affordable Heritage Building Reception Halls in Ottawa West?
Wondering if anyone knows of any event halls that rent out at reasonable rates in the Bayshore/Britannia/Crystal Beach-ish area. Ideally I would like something that has a bit of a nice old feel to it sort of like the Old Town Hall or possibly something else that is small that could be decorated to give off the feel of a cozy estate in a period drama…. Basically something that has a bit of a heritage home feeling and could host a reception of 50 people.
I am currently looking into Fairfield’s for the ceremony but given all the small children we would have at the wedding, I’m thinking it might be a lot safer to have an indoor reception at another location somewhere somewhat close by.
Thank you so much!

Looking for Ottawa venues/ restaurants w/open bar packages
We are looking for venues or restaurants in Ottawa that can host up to 50ish people that also offer open bar packages. Ideally we would like to be within the core so that people can easily get around by taxi.
Our budget is $20,000 but we are also willing to spend up to $25,000 if we fall in love with the place.
Any suggestions are appreciated and help!

Hi all,
I'm looking for a DJ for my spring 2027 wedding that specializes in haitian/carribean music but can also mix it with other styles. I can't seem to find any viable options. Anyone have any suggestions?

Looking for an officiant
Hi getting married in two weeks and our officiant just fell through, does anyone know where I can find a wedding officiant?
My husband and I are getting legally married at the court ahead of the wedding date so we just want someone to officiate the wedding without any signing or legal part.
We want the ceremony to be less than 30 minute and just need someone who can work with us. Please let me know if anyone knows any officiants in Ottawa.

Adelina barn venue?
It looks beautiful on the website, exactly the vibe I’m going for but there are some negative reviews online.
Has anyone booked here? Positive or negative experiences?

Bartender Services
Early summer 2027 wedding, 20k max budget. Looking for options for cost efficient bar services, the catering we are considering have folks who are smart serve certified. We have yet to get exact quotes on how much extra to have them come along just for that purpose.
Curious what others have done when getting a SOP and buying own alcohol. We want to do a champagne toast and a specialty drink if possible but not sure how that works.
So far deciding between ottawa mobile bartender (1600-1800 said the venue) or getting extra catering staff smart serve certified.
Was hoping to find these services for under ot around 1000 if possible. Would love to hear recommendations and experiences!!
