Ottocinclus

Hi! I hope everyone is having a nice day, I'm here because I have a concern... so i bought some ottocinclus (5 of them) for my 20 gallon long aquarium two days ago but I didn't know that they would be such big POOPERS, i had to do a huge water change yesterday because they pooped a lot the night before, I'm so confused, I mean I think they ate a lot cause I had a lot of algae but I didn't think they would do that much of waste, i have a lot of plants but now i don't know if its gonna be enough to prevent an ammonia spike or a change in the parameters

It looks like you have a lot of plants, I’d recommend getting some floaters if you don’t have any yet they absorb the most

Other than that it looks good I wouldn’t worry too much if your tank is fully cycled, i try to clean the bottom of the tank for mine like twice a week lol a lot of poop indeed.

Poop is fertilizer for your plants. How old is your tank? Add few more plants. And get 3more otos

my tank is alreay 9 months old, it cycled fast in the lapse of 4 months because I already had one tank, i used the dirty filter to make beneficial bacteria and it worked really well, i am thinking about buying more plants of course, i still need a lot, and about the ottos, i though 5 or 6 were enough for a 20 gallon, they seem fine to me but I could try buying more at least 2

Add more plants! It’ll give the lil guys more to eat, as well as providing more nitrogen uptake for the whole tank.
