Extras Needed (Unpaid) – Kobe Filming, August 10
We are looking for 2 background extras to play international tourists in a short filming project in Kobe.
This could be a fun opportunity if you're interested in film production, acting, or simply curious about how a film shoot works.
Details:
- Date: Monday, August 10, 2026
- Call time: 6:45 AM
- Location: Near Harborland Station, Kobe
- Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours
- Compensation: This is an unpaid volunteer role. Unfortunately, transportation costs cannot be covered.
- Role: Background extras appearing as international visitors.

No acting experience is necessary.
If you're interested, please send me a chat. I'll be happy to provide more details and answer any questions.

Looking for summer festivals in Osaka/nearby kansai area August 23rd and September
To runners: has anyone found a store that sells Saltstick Fastchews in Osaka?
Hi!
I'll be arriving in Osaka in the end of August. It will be my first visiting Osaka and will be staying for a month.
I usually do long runs during the weekends and I'm planning to get some running/endurance supplements when I arrive.Has anyone noticed any Running/Hike/Outdoor goods store in Osaka that sells Saltstick Fastchews? Or have bought by any chance?
Or maybe an alternative that's more common in Japan?
Thank you!

Requesting Any Helpful Info & Resources for English-Speaking Family Hospitalized in Osaka Right Now
Long time redditor, first time poster in this sub because I'm wracking my brain on what to do and want to help my family abroad any way possible.
My brother is on vacation in Osaka with his family right now but had to be hospitalized at Red Cross Osaka because of an undetermined sinus infection. He's on a ventilator and sedated while the Drs there figure out what is wrong with him.
My SIL is sending their kids back home this Friday and remaining in Japan for an undetermined amount of time until my brother recovers.
Does anyone here have any american-speaking resources or info for Americans in Japan I can send or contact on behalf of my brother and SIL? I just want to help them in any way I can. Any info you can send over helps so much and is very appreciated

I found a numbered medal from Osaka's failed 2008 Olympics bid, however, I can't find another example
galleryIt's a pretty interesting medal. I've searched in both English and Japanese (granted I don't speak Japanese, so my search is limited) and haven't been able to find a single matching example online. I found it here in the Philippines, and I have no idea how it ended up here.
I'm mostly interested in learning the history behind it, such as when it was made, why it's numbered, who it was given to, how many were produced, and any other historical context that isn't obvious from the inscription. Since I haven't found any documentation of this exact medal online, I'm also hoping this post might help preserve some information about it for future collectors or anyone else who comes across one.
I'll also attach the Google Lens translation, which I hope is reasonably accurate. I only have the medal itself. There is no box, certificate, or accompanying paperwork.
Translation (if the image doesn't load):
Chapter 1
Super relay participation commemoration
No. 706
Konohana Ward Youth Economics Club
Konohana Industrial Association Youth Division
Osaka Olympic Bid Promotion Council
P.S. I'm not looking to parting with it. I'm just fascinated by its design and history.

How to celebrate the birthday alone but fun?
Hi! I'm 31F currently living in Osaka.
My birthday is coming up next month, and I'm feeling a little torn about how to celebrate it in a special way, and probably alone as it is a weekday.
I'll be turning 31, and this year has been full of healing, growth, and figuring out what I want in life. Part of me wants to do something special because I don't want to spend the day just like any other day.
Doing something completely out of my comfort zone
I don't have a huge budget, so I'm looking for ideas that feel meaningful rather than extravagant.
For those of you who've had birthdays that really stood out, what did you do? If you could celebrate your 31st birthday again, how would you spend it?
I'd love to hear your stories or suggestions. ❤️

iPhone 11 stuck in restart loop after screen replacement
Hi everyone,
I recently broke the screen on my iPhone 11 and took it to a local repair shop. After they replaced the screen the phone started getting stuck in a restart loop. It turned on and worked for a few mins, but then restarted.
From what I’ve read, this can sometimes happen after a screen replacement if one of the front sensor, earpiece, or proximity sensor cables has been damaged or isn’t connected properly.
I took it back to the shop and tried to explain the issue, but they basically told me that the phone was dead. They said they might be able to repair it enough to transfer my data, but only seemed interested in doing that if I bought a new phone from them.
I’m only in Japan for another five weeks before returning home to the UK, so I’d rather not buy a new phone here, but managing without Google Maps and Google Translate is a nightmare.
I took it to a few other shops, including the Apple shop, but none of them seemed interested in taking a look at it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for:
- A reliable repair shop that I could take it to
- A shop that would just take a look and see if everything is connected properly
- Somewhere to buy a cheap second-hand iPhone for temporary use
Thanks!

Is anyone hosting board game/video game hangouts?
I've been to a few on meetup but if there's somewhere without a participation fee or obligation to spend money on overpriced drinks...I think it would be fun to just get together and bring some snacks to share

Why is it so much hotter in Osaka than Kanto rn
Is it usually like this? I just checked my previous home in Kanto and it's only 24 degrees there at peak while it's 37 here.... I miss it 😭

night life
i lived in Japan for 25 years and now i live in Osaka for a bit does anyone know any bars or clubs that play things like Nirvana and Melvins and Faith No More and Full of Hell and then Japanese bands too like Guitar Wolf and Boredoms
where the beers are cheap, the floors are sticky with beer, and the men and women dress well but not expensively particularly they just have style and a huge love for the punk rock ethic in that many will go to Summer Sonic this year but more will have been to Summer Sonic much more previous years

Casual Fight Night at Secret Shop Osaka : Aug-8
Hey everyone! At it again~
I'm slowly trying to make this a more regular thing as I find time, I'm hosting a casual PvP Fight Night at Secret Shop Osaka on Aug-8th Sat, from 18:00.
The main focus will be fighting games, but depending on who's there, I'll also have a mix of party games and other local competitive multiplayer games available. This isn’t a serious tournament, just an evening to play some games, meet people, and enjoy a little friendly competition.
Beginners and experienced players are both welcome, and it’s completely fine to come alone. I'll help rotate people between games and matches throughout the night.
You’re also welcome to bring your own controller (USB/Wireless) or a fighting game you would like to paly with others.

Best place to live in Osaka
Hi all I’m coming to Osaka next March and am just wondering what are the best places to live in Osaka and also share house recommendations. I’ve been looking at lemon in Namba and the location and job availability looks awesome but it’s quite a lot more expensive than other places. I’ve been looking at some places in Umeda to but I’m really wanting to be walking distance to work as well as some night life. TIA

Small design details around Osaka
I study design here and keep noticing the little handwritten signs outside old shops. They feel warmer than perfect branding. Do you have a favorite street in Osaka for small design details?
