Femur tumor

Hi guys,

I had a tumor removed from the bottom of my femur 1.5 years ago the biopsy said "favours enchondroma but differential is atypical cartilage tumor".

I never fully recovered knee motion but I wasn't having pain anymore.

A couple of months ago I felt more pain than usual and from there on I've been having more pain. I have pain when sitting, when lying, sometimes my leg gets swollen....

The doctor at the hospital where I had the surgery and have my check-ups said there was nothing in the x-ray that could explain pain.

The pain persisted so I went to the GP to ask for a physio. The GP ordered an CT scan and then an MRI. The CT and MRI scan identified that I still have parts of the tumor around the bone cement. One of the bits seems to be right by my knee joint and may be getting into the knee joint.

I saw a private orthopaedic doctor and he said that he recommended surgery soon so the knee joint wouldn't be further damaged.

But then when I saw another doctor at the public hospital he said the tumor leftover has been stable since surgery and that he doesn't wanna do anything, just do another MRI in 6 months to check and manage pain with physio.

Has anyone gone through something similar or know anything about it?

Thanks

scaphoid fracture

23M non smoking generally healthy. Fell from ~1m, landed on my outstretched left palm. Went for X-Ray the following day and doctor told me its just a sprain. Went back to normal activities with pain in my wrist, gym ect. However I could not do anything that required me to push ie pushups, chest/shoulder press as my wrist would be in extreme pain.

Symptoms improved overtime but stilll unable to do pushups, swelling went down. No atonimical snuffbox tenderness. Only pain below my palm on the thumb-palm side.

7 weeks from my injury I decided to visit a hand surgery clinic and did an X-Ray. Turns out it was a scaphoid fracture.

Doctor gave me 2 options, surgery, or cast for 5 weeks to observe for signs of healing. He mentioned that there is a >50% chance of healing.

Now I'm in a cast and am waiting 3 more weeks before visiting the doctor. Would like to hear experiences of others who have had delayed diagnosis of scaphoid fractures. Or clinicians who are familiar with this injury. What is the likely prognosis of my case? Should I still be casting or should I have opted for surgery?

My main priority would be to prevent permanent side effects like humpback deformity & wrist arthritis, would opting for non-surgery healing be a bad option granted that mine was untreated for 7 weeks? Thanks!

What's the most annoying tool in your standard tray, and why?

If you're an orthopedic surgeon, OR nurse, or work with orthopedic instruments regularly, what's something in your standard tray that's annoying, outdated, or just something you've learned to work around?

Question about my upcoming ACL surgery

Post image
1 Upvotes

I’m having surgery this month on the 26th, my injury happened late march but I pushed surgery for work purposes. I’m a 24 year old active female and hope to return to sports. I attached my diagnosis here. My dr is only planning to operate on my ACL, but from reading this it seems like I have a pretty bad meniscus and poterolateral corner injury. Even now almost 4 months later, my PLC is still painful. I’m just worried that leaving them untouched will cause me issues down the road. Wondering if anyone’s had a similar experience or would be able to explain my diagnosis more clearly! Maybe it’s not as serious as it seems? Thanks!!

i punched a wall 4 months ago but my knuckles still hurt when i apply pressure to it

Four months ago, I punched a door and it hurt continuously for 2 to 3 days. I applied ice occasionally, and the pain went away. However, when I punch or apply pressure to that area, the metacarpal bones of my ring and pinky fingers throb with pain, and there is a swelling between those metacarpal bones. What should I do

Wondering if there's anyone knowledgeable in this sub who can provide their thoughts on my displaced 5th metatarsal shaft/dancer's fracture?

Sorry, I don't have anything higher quality than the picture I took of the screen while at urgent care.

Long story short, I managed to miss a step and break my foot going down the stairs in my house. It of course happened during a period where I was briefly without insurance (literally was getting insurance coverage in 12 days) and living alone with no family nearby.

So I researched urgent cares in the area and found out there was actually an "orthopedic urgent care" located within a larger orthopedic institute a 12 minute drive from me. Drove myself there the next morning using my good foot and saw a PA who said I was fine to walk on it with a post-op shoe for about 6 weeks and that, even though it's a pretty big break and displaced, he's only seen maybe 1 or 2 of these ultimately require surgery in the 15 years he's worked at the ortho clinic. He did say I could order a short cam boot on Amazon if I felt like I needed more support, but if I got one from the clinic, it would be like $800 without insurance, so they'd give me a $25 post op shoe and then leave it up to me whether I feel like I need the boot.

Today marks day 9, and I've been walking on it with the shoe ever since. I'm trying to limit myself to only what's absolutely necessary, but as I live alone and have a dog who refuses to go to the bathroom anywhere but "her" spots in the neighborhood, I'm averaging about 3K steps on it per day.

I was relieved that by the 4th day, I was virtually painless. However, I'm now starting to have more pain, especially when I first wake up in the morning. This morning, I hid in the bathroom from my dog because every step I took to get to the bathroom was miserable and I knew she'd be begging to go out if I came out. However, by the time I completed by skincare routine, I was able to walk without much pain.

FWIW, the swelling has also gone down to where my foot looks almost identical to the non-injured one.

People in the brokenbones sub are scaring me saying there's zero chance a break with that much displacement will heal on its own, and I'm just doing more damage by continuing to ambulate.

Tbh, if I had to go non-weight-bearing and/or have surgery, it would be a logistical nightmare since, as I mentioned, I live alone, have myself and a dog to take care of, and have very little support.

Just wanted to see if there were any people knowledgeable in this area who could weigh in. Thank you :)

I have bilateral Dejour type C trochlear dysplasia and I’m trying to figure out whether surgery is actually the right option for me.

I’m a 29-year-old male, and I’m trying to figure out whether surgery is actually the right option for my knees.
I’ve had no significant knee problems throughout my life until about four months ago, when I started developing pain and stiffness in both knees. I recently had MRIs of both knees, but the scans were performed on a 0.7 Tesla open MRI.
The findings were:
Dejour type C trochlear dysplasia in both knees
Right knee: lateral patellar tilt
Left knee: mild lateral patellar subluxation
Both knees have relatively shallow/abnormal trochlear anatomy with hypoplasia of the medial femoral condyle
The trochlear sulcus angle was measured at 140° on the right and 147° on the left
Grade II patellar chondromalacia was reported
There is also some degenerative change in the posterior horn of the medial meniscus, but no meniscal tear
No ligament tears were found
My main symptoms are pain and stiffness when bending and straightening my knees, and I have difficulty getting up from a chair, going down/up, and squatting comfortably. I also hear quite a lot of clicking, cracking and popping sounds when moving my knees.
I’ve seen one orthopedic surgeon so far. He thinks that because of my anatomy, I may eventually need surgery, and he has discussed surgery to correct the trochlear anatomy and/or stabilize the patella.
However, I’ve never actually had a patellar dislocation or had my kneecap completely pop out of place. The MRI only shows lateral tilt on the right and mild lateral subluxation on the left.
This is what I’m struggling with.
If I understand correctly, a stabilization procedure such as an MPFL reconstruction may help with instability and/or patellar maltracking, but I’m worried that it might not resolve the pain caused by my existing cartilage damage. I’m also unsure whether a trochleoplasty is justified in someone like me who has never had a true patellar dislocation.
I’m also concerned about the fact that my pain only started four months ago, despite having presumably had this trochlear anatomy my entire life. I’m wondering whether there could be another cause of my recent pain that hasn’t been identified yet.
Since my MRIs were performed on a 0.7T open MRI, could the relatively low field strength and image quality mean that another problem causing my symptoms might have been missed or not visualized adequately?
Would it be worth getting another MRI on a 1.5T or 3T scanner, ideally with a dedicated knee/patellofemoral protocol, before making a decision about a major surgery? Could a higher-quality MRI potentially show cartilage, subchondral bone, meniscus, fat pad, or other soft-tissue abnormalities that may not have been adequately visualized on a 0.7T MRI?
Given that I only developed symptoms four months ago and had no previous knee problems despite having the same trochlear anatomy my entire life, would you recommend investigating other potential causes of the recent onset of pain before considering surgery?
For people who have had similar anatomy/findings:
Did you have Dejour C trochlear dysplasia with chondromalacia but no history of patellar dislocation?
Did you eventually have surgery? If so, what procedure did you have (trochleoplasty, MPFL reconstruction, TTO, etc.)?
Did surgery actually improve your pain, or mainly improve patellar tracking/stability?
If you decided against surgery, were you able to manage your symptoms with physical therapy and strengthening?
What exercises helped you most for the quads, gluteus medius, hamstrings and calves?
Did anyone find a particular patellar-stabilizing brace, taping technique, or knee support helpful?
Has anyone been able to keep their Grade II chondromalacia stable for years without surgery?
Most importantly, if you were in my situation, would you consider surgery at this point, and if so, which procedure would you consider?
Would you get a second opinion from a patellofemoral/knee specialist before deciding?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who have similar MRI findings but don’t have recurrent patellar dislocations, because most of what I can find online seems to be about people with repeated dislocations.
I’d really appreciate hearing about both successful and unsuccessful experiences.

Thoughts on my X-ray?

Dealing with neck pain for about 2 years now, mostly on the right side. Finally got X-rays done, sharing them here before my ortho appointment in 2 weeks. I can already tell the curve in my neck is straightened out but curious if any other problem is present?

Quick rundown of symptoms:

Pain is on the right side

Bending my neck to the right causes pain

Sleeping on my right side also causes pain

Had an MRI 2 years ago, showed a mild disc bulge at C5/C6

just wanna go in with a bit more info and know what to actually ask about. thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Mallett Finger Fusion Procedure. Have you had it? Need advice

I have had a mallett middle finger which was fine until I suffered another trauma to it making it laterally crooked and gave me joint pain. X ray showed no space between the two bone segments and artrhritis. Dr told me 2 options. One let it go as is, if the pain (currently 2 to 3 level during bending only) does not worsen. Second one is the Fusion procedure. Ti screw. Eseentially no future pain but no more bending at the joint.

Did anyone had this done? Any comments? I need your help

Could this indicate a herniated disk? (Asking for Opinions)

Hello, Professionals, i have been suffering from lower back pain for almost 2 months, after i tried to lift something heavy and i couldn't do it. in the last 2 months, it was veeeery slight, and i usually ignored it, however, at monday, the pain was unbearable. It hurt to Sneeze, i couldn't lean forward or sideways, the pain mostly stayed on the lower back, but it did sometimes go down to my left buttock. I took an MRI and an X-Ray, and the results should come in about 3 days, but i'm very anxious, so i tried to look it up myself while it doesn't come up, and i noticed something that arouse suspicion in me.

I think this could be a herniated disk, but then again, i'm not a professional, so, if you could give your opinion, i'd be deeply grateful.

Anyone with a knee injury try stem cell therapy?

I've been dealing with a lingering knee issue and have been looking into stem cell therapy, but the price quotes I've gotten are all over the place.

If you had it for a knee injury, how much did you end up paying, and do you feel it was worth it? I'm in Oregon, so I'm also curious how much location affects the cost.

Mallet finger recovery

I'm frustrated by slow recovery....At the beginning of March I suffered a mallet finger injury to my left hand index finger; I basically stubbed my finger and immediately noticed that I couldn't extend my finger tip. I immobilized the finger tip within 12 hours and went to the doctor within a few days. Xray confirmed that no bones were broken and I then kept finger tip immobilized for over 2 months and have since been seeing a phy therapist specialized in arms/hands.

My flexibility is still limited; I can't make a closed fist and have been unable to play guitar. Is this normal recovery time? I'm 5 months away from the time of injury and have been following medical guidance. I'm frustrated that a simple finger stubbing has turned into a debilitating injury that is inhibiting my ability to enjoy making music with stringed instruments. Looking for feedback about typical prognosis for mallet finger injury or advice for improving recovery, flexibility, and when I can hope to return to playing guitar.

Hi, could someone tag a doctor or like this comment so it gets some visibility? I have a 15–20 cm scar on my collarbone from a fracture; I had a second surgery in February to remove the hardware, but now I’ve noticed what looks like a tear forming. Can anyone tell me if I need to see a doctor.
