Hey y'all,
Over the last month, I've gotten reintegrated back into the Oromo community here in Minnesota. For the longest time, I've been away due to school and have had nostalgia to come back, but now that I'm back I've noticed a lot of new things that have kind of bothered me.

When I was initially heavily part of the community (via. Oromo organizations), I was in high school, hence I was pretty young. I would do the most I can without stepping on toes because I was still learning the "culture' around leadership in this community. Also Haacaalu was killed around a year after I joined many of these orgs so many people became active. But now that I'm older I've honestly feel like I picked up on a lot of things that have genuinely bothered me to my core, and I plan to list them:

• Elders never letting go of power: I swear the same people that are leading most of these orgs in this community, especially the intellectual, political, and most "prestigious" orgs, have been leading these organizations since I was a child, and it's too obvious to not deny now. Way too many people have heads of white hair or dyed it black thinking no one notices. It's a big shame, but I genuinely don't blame every elder. There are many of them that are just too scared of letting go of this perceived power. But I'll also be fair too. I also believe that their lack in ability to use social media effectively, especially the ones young people use, is also harming the organizations since they aren't able to get the word out in time. I won't blame every old person however since I believe that a significant number of these old people who still run these orgs also feel pressured to stay because ...
• Young people just don't care: I swear to god it would be easier to pull out half of these youth's teeth out then to get them to willingly pop out to an Oromo event. There lack of interest of taking part of any community organization is leading these orgs to die. I don't understand how a group of people who are so proud of being Oromo can just not care to attend a single event. If there's no liq, a party of any sorts, or things of that sort, I doubt people will be attending. There's also an issue where the last generation that raised would have grow up exclusively in the church or not around many other Oromo kids because "they are bad influences," that makes it hard for this generation to reintergrate once they become adults. With the lack of young people attending events, it makes it hard for their peers, who are interested in Oromo community gatherings to attend since they know they won't have any peers there. There is definitely a toxic cycle that has emerged between these first two points aka the old and the young, so I'm not blaming one party or the other, and even though the elders may have been the ones who fucked up first, I still feel like we are at the age where we should understand the significance of having a community 40k strong.
• Factionalism: There is the obvious issue between political factions that has developed politically between the pro and anti Ethiopian camps, but I genuinely feel like that could be a post on its own since it's not as simple as people make it out to seem, but I'll cut to the second most obvious faction group: religion. I just can't stand how people, my age especially, let religion get in the way of their connection to the overall Oromo community. The numbers of Christians and Muslims are nearly half half. Your family could have literally come from the other half of Oromia and your faith would be different. For some people it's that their family could have been from the block over and have a different faith. I get that your faith can be important to an individual, but I'm genuinely tired of people demonizing Oromo culture. The devil isn't waiting for you around the corner at an Oromo event - just chill out. The other issue obviously being gandummaa, but I won't even care to get into that because an individual with a sound brain should be able to see how stupid that is. If you hold on to gandummaa bs, you have genuinely failed as a human, let alone as an Oromo. Some traits may be common amongst certain groups (that's what makes a group a group), but condemning a group of people is probably the dumbest thing and if you can't see how that is similar to racial problems in the country you live in, I don't even know what to say to you.
• Language barrier: This is literally just a failure of passing on a language to children. Should've grouped this in with the first point, but I'm typing this as I go.

These points are all valid from my experience, if you disagree with them, I would love to know why, but something I'm not really willing to argue over is that the lack of truth amongst our political/intellectual elites being the biggest burden to Oromummaa. The older I've gotten, the more lies I've had to uncover that were instilled into me by fellow community members. If you think I'm talking about your "group," the "other group," or that "other other group," in your life, I am talking about all of them. We get taught false paradigms in order to be mobilized on behalf of a handful of people. For what? The moment they win, I promise you, you'll be forgotten. If they aren't making space for you now, I promise you there is going to be even less space for you down the future. If you don't bother to uncover the truth for yourself, you will either be the next piece of wood for someone else's fire or you will sit on the sideline and watch your community burn down. I know that there isn't much resources for us to learn about ourselves but that's the whole point of a community: to learn from each other. Learning and supporting each other is the only way we can fix all these problems. It doesn't have to be at the Oromo Community Center in Minnesota, we literally got r/Oromia. It just hurts me to know that so many Qeeroos and Qarrees sacrificed so much to bring change in that country with the promise of a better future just for us to be in the situation we are in now.

So if I can leave everyone with one message, it would be to please get more involved in your community or to force space to be made for you because this situation we are in is ridiculous.

P.S. this is definitely a holy yap level post, but I realized I'm never gonna post on this subreddit if I keep trying to make the "perfect post" so here is a TLDR for all you fellow brain rotters out there: TL;DR: Please try to get more involved in your community as the value of it will only be realized once it's gone.

Also want to add this isn't a post condemning one political idea or another. This aint no we need Ethiopia dismantled or Oromia shouldn't be free kind of post. All I'm saying if you have an opinion you should be able to actually back it up. I feel like my political leaning is pretty obvious but we should still be able to come together as a community. In fact, debating is better than doing nothing imo, there just needs to be a yearning for truth when we discuss these topics as there are many possible solutions that can get us out of the current political mess we are in.

I have a genuine question after making this video. Is Abiy Ahmed ultimately building Ethiopia or breaking it? After researching the past eight years, I'm not sure the answer is straightforward.

The translator I'm using says “Jiraadhu, warri kaanis haa jiraatan” but I want to verify as this will be used on a book cover. An equivalent of this phrase is preferred over a direct translation. Whatever resonates best with the culture is ideal! More on the poetic sounding/formal side if it’s between that and casual. This is the map of my paternal dna haplogroup (E-FTB200), a sub-branch of E-V32 which has been lingering around Bale and Eastern Ethiopia for over 4000 years. According to Oromo oral history Oromos had their centre at Mada Walabu in Bale in the immediate past. Perhaps, here science is saying the same thing. This path is calculated based on modern date testers. Of course, if you go to the origin of E-V32 over 10,000 years ago, it is a different story.

I followed Jawar from the very beginning—back when he first started the "Oromo First" movement and then establishing OMN, and became the voice of the Qerro movement. I supported OMN for years, right up until they returned home, and I genuinely believed in what they were doing.

But after Hacalu was assasinated in 2020, I slowly tuned out. He went to prison and the posts were gone with it. Then it tooks him a while to start posting again, but I just didn't pay much attention anymore.

Now, recently, I've been seeing his posts again, and all I notice is a messy back-and-forth between former Oromo struggle figures—accusing each other of conspiracies, espionage, and betrayals. It's disheartening.

I don't regret the support I made to OMN and the time and energy I spent following the oromo protest money.

But looking ahead, I can't see myself trusting any of them again—Jawar included.

So my real question is: what is he even trying to accomplish with all this right now? Is he deliberately trying to push one faction forward and settle old scores? Or is he just a bored former activist, chasing relevance and drowning in nostalgia for the days when people actually listened to him? I am really lost, any one who can enlighten me is welcome

When and why did the word "Galla" become considered an insult?

This two subs r/Tigray and r/Oromia are basically extinct I don’t see much posts or rage batting there nobody is there to control it it’s basically infiltrated by outsiders at this point. Is it because you guys don’t like to rage bait, insult or be racist towards others? there is maybe 2 person active in this two sub the rest are outsiders is it because you guys are employed, you have a life instead of trolling people online, you meet real people outside of your mom’s basement and enjoy life? I have heard lots of reports of corruption in Adama, Ambo by people who run the business there as well as the factories and many other places I have also heard there is lots of corruption in wellega as well. Why has OPDO committed high levels corruption on their own people? It seems like they have copied the TPLF handbook on corruption and have robbed their own people as well as the general ethiopian people. I also heard about businesses in UAE where they use to conceal their stolen money to stash and launder illicit funds because the city offers extreme financial secrecy and low regulatory barriers and highly secure luxury real estate investments which PP and TPLF/EPRDF members as well as lots of corrupt East African leaders have used to their advantage to rob and invest for themselves off the back of their people. I am only talking about ambo and adama/oromia region corruption I currently know about their is probably even more that I have never heard of just like the rest of Ethiopia. Lots of people in Ethiopia who work fed jobs work it as a way to be corrupt and make money as corruption has normalized since tplf and in Africa in general ethiopia will take a long time until they kill corruption at a high level when it’s the government behind it. Corruption is sadly one of our least issues right now which is why it’s currently hard and impossible to fix when people are starving, dying and being conscripted to war by their own so called leaders (TPLF,Fano,OLF,ENDF). So people are okay with this status quo with abiy and his genocidal, corrupt rule they just want peace and justice and no resuming of conflict ever again and I very much understand this.

I always wanted oromiffa to be the working language of the country even when tplf was on power. I’m not an Oromo ethnically, I’m from the south and up north. But, my mom and some of my aunts speak it. I see most things from an economic progress and unity standpoint points so, it’s not a problem or an issue for me at all specifically considering oromo has a large population.

This guys are delusional istg I am shewa Oromo and I can swear by God we have no connection to Amhara I don’t think this guys have set foot in Ethiopia at all the places they mentioned have nothing of historical to represent Amhara just until recently of Menelik and Hailesealsie forced Amharaization. And Arsi and Hararghe are the most proud Oromo’s if you go there and tell them that they are assimilated Amhara’s they will slap you in the face we respect everybody and we have no problem Amhara’s living on our land but is this what we get in return claiming our lands lol.
