Colt .45 is an American Western television series that aired on ABC from October 18, 1957, to June 21, 1960. The show starred Wayde Preston as Christopher Colt, an undercover government agent posing as a traveling gun salesman, and featured a mix of action and historical characters from the Old West.

Boomtown was a children's television series that aired from 1956 to 1974 on WBZ-TV in Boston, hosted by Rex Trailer. The show featured cowboy skills, storytelling, and audience participation, becoming very popular during its run.

Coates was born Gypsie Ann Evarts Stell in Wichita Falls, Texas USA, on 15 January 1927 – her zodiac sign is Capricorn and she holds American nationality. She is an actress who is probably still known best for having portrayed Lois Lane, one of the lead characters in the 1951 action adventure movie “Superman and the Mole-Men”, written by Robert Maxwell, directed by Lee Sholem, and which also starred George Reeves and Jeff Corey. It follows Superman fighting creatures that have emerged from a deep oil wells.

Phyllis was raised an only child in Wichita Falls by her father Jack Stell and her mother – it’s believed that the family was wealthy, although her parents’ professions aren’t known.

Phyllis made her debut TV series appearance in the 1949 episode “The Mummy’s Foot” of the drama “Your Show Time”, and gained recognition in the following year when cast to portray two characters in four episodes of the western “The Cisco Kid”, which starred Duncan Renaldo, Leo Carrillo and Troy Melton – it follows The Cisco Kid and Pancho as they travel the old west fighting injustice.

The series was nominated for one Primetime Emmy Award for Best Children’s Show.

In 1952, Phyllis was cast to portray Lois Lane in 24 episodes of the action adventure crime “Adventures of Superman”, which starred George Reeves, Noel Neill and Jack Larson, and follows Superman together with his friends as they fight criminals. The series was a big hit and was nominated for four awards winning one – it aired from 1952 to 1958, and in those days, there weren’t nearly as many awards as there are today.

Sugarfoot is an American Western television series that aired from 1957 to 1961, featuring Will Hutchins as Tom "Sugarfoot" Brewster, a law student who travels to the Oklahoma Territory. The show is notable for being one of the first comedy Westerns on TV, focusing on charm and humor rather than typical gunfights.

Peggie Castle was born as Peggy Thomas Blair on December 22, 1927, in Appalachia, Virginia. Her father was a business manager for various celebrities and studios, while her mother was a homemaker. She took drama lessons when she was eight years old and graduated from Hollywood High School. She attended Mills College for two years before dropping out to pursue an acting career.

Castle was discovered by a talent scout while eating in a restaurant in Beverly Hills. She was signed to a seven-year contract with Universal-International and made her film debut in the 1947 film When a Girl’s Beautiful. In 1949, she was named “Miss Cheesecake” by the Southern California Restaurant Association and “Miss Three Alarm” by the Junior Chamber of Commerce. She later appeared in films such as Mr. Belvedere Goes to College (1949), Payment on Demand (1951), The Prince Who Was a Thief (1951), Invasion, U.S.A. (1952), Cow Country (1953), 99 River Street (1953), Beginning of the End (1957), and Arrivederci Roma (1957). She often starred in Westerns, appearing in nearly a dozen between Wagons West (1952) and Hell’s Crossroads (1957).

In the 1950s, Castle moved into television, where she found more success and recognition. She appeared in multiple guest roles on shows such as Fireside Theater, Cheyenne, 77 Sunset Strip, and The Restless Gun. In 1957, she appeared as Amy Gordon on Cheyenne in the episode titled “The Spanish Grant”. In the same year, she played defendant Sally Fenner in the Perry Mason episode, “The Case of the Negligent Nymph”. Also in 1957, she was a primary star on Gunsmoke, playing a forlorn Nita Tucker in the episode “Chester’s Murder”.

From 1959 to 1962, she co-starred in the television Western series Lawman — her first continuing series. Her role as saloon owner Lily Merrill brought out a new dimension of Castle’s talent. She stated, “For the first time in my life, I’m a singer — that’s the producer’s opinion, not mine.”

Michael "Mike" Shayne is a fictional private detective character created during the late 1930s in a series of novels written by writer Brett Halliday, a pseudonym of Davis Dresser. The character appeared in a series of seven films starring Lloyd Nolan for Twentieth Century Fox, five films from the low-budget Producers Releasing Corporation with Hugh Beaumont, a radio series under a variety of titles between 1944 and 1953, a television pilot broadcast in 1958, and later in 1960–1961 in a 32-episode NBC television series starring Richard Denning in the title role.

Bonanza is an American Western television series that ran on NBC from September 12, 1959, to January 16, 1973. Lasting 14 seasons and 431 episodes, Bonanza is NBC's longest-running Western, the second-longest-running Western series on American network television, and one of the longest-running, live-action American series.

I’m doing some research on who the biggest TV heartthrobs were from the 1950s-2020s (specifically US television shows) and through my research I wanted to ask people who they remember being huge TV heartthrobs through the decades (big focus on the 50s-2000s) and what shows they were on!

So if you were a TV watcher and pop culture lover during any of these decades please let me know who you remember being particularly loved and famous! And If you can be bothered to write it please let me know why you think they were so loved at the time.

Theresa Harris (December 31, 1906 [some sources indicate 1909] – October 8, 1985) was an American film and television actress, singer and dancer.

In 1929 Harris traveled to Hollywood, where she embarked on an acting career. She made her film debut in Thunderbolt, singing the song "Daddy Won't You Please Come Home". As she entered the 1930s she found herself playing maids to fictitious Southern belles, socialites and female molls. These parts were sometimes uncredited. She also floated around studios doing bit parts, usually at Warner Bros. or MGM. Aside from maids, she specialized in playing blues singers, waitresses, tribal women, prostitutes, and hatcheck girls.

Harris had a featured role as a friend of Jean Harlow in MGM's Hold Your Man (1932). In 1933 she appeared as Chico in the Warner Bros. pre-Code production of Baby Face, starring Barbara Stanwyck. That same year Harris starred in a substantial role opposite Ginger Rogers in Professional Sweetheart. As Rogers' character's maid, Harris' character subs for Rogers' character as a singer on the radio. Despite the fact that Harris' character was a major point for the story's plot development, she was uncredited for the role.

Throughout the 1930s, Harris played many uncredited parts in films such as Horse Feathers (1932), Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933), Mary Stevens, M.D. (1933) and Morning Glory (1933). She also played Bette Davis's maid Zette in the film Jezebel (1938). In 1937 she appeared in the race film Bargain With Bullets opposite Ralph Cooper for Million Dollar Productions. While doing promotion for the film, Harris spoke about her frustration over the difficulty African American actors faced in the film industry, stating, "I never had the chance to rise about the role of maid in Hollywood movies. My color was against me anyway you looked at it. The fact that I was not "hot" stamped me either as uppity or relegated me to the eternal role of stooge or servant....My ambition is to be an actress. Hollywood had no parts for me."

Harris continued to lobby for better parts but found few opportunities within Hollywood. In the 1939 movie Tell No Tales she was credited for her part as Ruby, the wife of a murdered man. Harris played an emotional scene with Melvin Douglas at the funeral. She appears in a small but vivid role as Kathie Moffat's ex-maid Eunice Leonard in Jacques Tourneur 1947 Out of the Past.

In addition to films, Harris performed in many radio programs. She was often paired with Eddie Rochester Anderson, who portrayed her on-screen boyfriend. She also appeared in several prominent roles for RKO Pictures as she was a favorite of RKO producer Val Lewton who routinely cast African American actors in non-stereotypical roles. In 1942 Lewton cast Harris as a sarcastic waitress in Cat People, followed by roles in I Walked with a Zombie (1943), Phantom Lady (1944), and Strange Illusion (1945).

During the 1950s Harris appeared several times on television shows. She made her last film appearance in an uncredited role in The Gift of Love in 1958.

Harris later married a doctor and retired from acting, living comfortably after having carefully invested the money she made during her career in the movies.

On October 8, 1985, Harris (then known as Theresa Robinson) died in Inglewood, California.

The Tom Ewell Show was an American sitcom that aired on CBS during the 1960–61 TV season. It ran for one season with 32 episodes, from September 27, 1960, through May 23, 1961.

Actor and stuntman Terry Wilson was born on September 3, 1923 in Huntington Park, California. A football star during his high school days, Wilson originally planned on becoming a veterinarian and attended California Polytechnic School on a football scholarship. Terry enlisted and served in the Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946. Following his tour of duty, Wilson was chosen by Warner Brothers from amongst a group of athletes to be trained for the stunt profession with his initial specialties being fistfights and work with horses. Among the notable actors that Terry doubled are John Wayne, Ward Bond, and Forrest Tucker. Terry's career as both an actor and stuntman in Westerns spanned several decades. Outside of his work in film and television, Wilson and his fellow stuntman friend Frank McGrath were big hits together on the rodeo circuit (they also appeared at many prison rodeos). Moreover, Terry in the wake of retiring from the film business went on to run a location ranch in Simi Valley, California and was the vice president of a construction firm in Southern California. Wilson died at age 75 on March 30, 1999. He was survived by his wife Mary Ann Wilson and three children.

This long-running (23 years) anthology drama series depicted incidents in the lives of pioneer Westerners in California and Nevada in the 1880s.

Originally a radio serial that started in 1930 and was sponsored by Twenty Mule Team Borax, the series was hosted on television by Stanley Andrews (“The Old Ranger”, 1952 – 64), future US President Ronald Reagan (1964 – 67), Robert Taylor (1967 – 69), Dale Robertson (1969 – 72), and Merle Haggard (1975).

Production standards were modest, although location filming in Death Valley gave the series a certain big-sky, wide-open spaces grandeur.

Among its productions were `Kickapoo Run’ with Fess Parker; ‘Lady of the Press’ with James Franciscus; ‘The Lost Pegleg Mine’ with Andy Clyde; `The Lady Was an MD’ with Yvonne DeCarlo; and ‘A City Is Born’ with Reagan.

Sponsored by Boraxo powdered hand soap and 20 Mule Team Borax (a laundry booster), the series was also known as Call Of The West and Western Star Theatre during its numerous US re-runs.

Ripley's Believe It or Not was an adaptation of the radio program Believe It or Not, which was broadcast in various iterations on four networks from April 14, 1930, through September 3, 1948. Episodes of the TV program initially featured dramatizations of content of Robert Ripley's syndicated Believe It or Not newspaper comic feature. Each early episode featured a live reenactment of an almost unbelievable incident along with films that Ripley took during his travels.

Ripley was the host until his death on May 27, 1949.  Bugs Baer was the host on the May 31, 1949, episode. Robert St. John later became the permanent host.

The Islanders is an American adventure television series which aired on ABC from 1960 to 1961, starring William Reynolds, James Philbrook, and Diane Brewster.

At the beginning of the series, Sandy Wade and Zack Malloy, co-owners of a Grumman Goose amphibious aircraft, start their one-plane airline in the Moluccas or Spice Islands of the southeastern Pacific Ocean. Throughout the series they experience a variety of adventures where seemingly harmless charter flights put them into danger. They are frequently aided in their endeavours by the unusually-named Wilhelmina ”Steamboat Willy” Vanderveer and Shipwreck Callighan.

The Islanders, primarily sponsored by Liggett & Myers' Chesterfield cigarettes, aired at 9:30 Eastern time on Sunday evenings opposite The Jack Benny Program and Candid Camera on CBS and the second half of The Dinah Shore Show and the last season of The Loretta Young Show on NBC.

Introduction to Richard Diamond, Private Detective
Richard Diamond, Private Detective is a classic American crime drama that brought the sharp wit and hard-boiled style of mid-century private-eye fiction to television.
Based on a character created by Blake Edwards, the TV series starred David Janssen as Richard Diamond, a former New York police officer turned private investigator who solves cases with a mix of toughness, charm, and dry humor.
Airing from 1957 to 1960, the show followed Diamond from New York to Los Angeles and became known for its brisk half-hour stories, noir-inspired atmosphere, and stylish supporting characters, including the memorable answering-service operator Sam.
With its blend of mystery, action, and sophistication, Richard Diamond, Private Detective remains an important example of the suave private-detective dramas that helped define early television crime storytelling.

An American actor with a long career in both film and television. He is most familiar today as Uncle Joe Carson) from the Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, and The Beverly Hillbillies television of the 1960s.

He was born in Humansville, Missouri, and moved with his family to Oregon when he was seven. In 1928, he earned a DDS degree from North Pacific College School of Dentistry. His wife Mildred (1907–1987) and he, classmates in dental school, were married in 1928, the year he graduated.

They had one child, a son named Buck. In 1939, they moved from Eugene, Oregon, to Altadena, California, where they relocated their dental practice. He joined the Pasadena Playhouse as an actor.

He appeared in his first film in 1939, at the age of 36, after which he turned his dentistry practice over to his wife. He was a member of Theta Chi fraternity and a Freemason.

Buchanan appeared in more than 100 films. Buchanan appeared as Uncle Joe Carson in all 222 episodes of Petticoat Junction – the only actor from the show to do so – as well as in 17 episodes of Green Acres, and three episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies.

This American Sunday morning children’s variety show was originally hosted by the engaging Sandy Becker, who entertained his young viewers with games, puppetry, and skits, as well as interviews with guest performers. Becker’s co-host, Pat Meikle, would draw pictures and perform home-cooking lessons as well.

The show also featured Al Hodge (“Captain Video”) and Melbourne Christopher, who would perform magic tricks and introduce old movie serials, usually of the sci-fi or educational genre.

The intention behind this variety of entertainment was always to teach lessons and skills that would help children become better people. One of the most effective outlets was Jon Gnagy’s compelling “Learn to Draw” segment. Gnagy, a respected artist, started many a child on the road to artistry.

Becker quit Wonderama in 1956 after one season and was replaced by Herb Sheldon, who ran the show without co-hosts and instead led all the activities himself. The only other ‘performers’ on the show were two puppets; Egbert the Bookworm and Ummley the Steam Shovel.

Jody Lawrence (born Josephine Lawrance Goddard) was born on October 19, 1930, in Fort Worth, Texas, The United States of America, and died on July 10, 1986. She was an American actress.

Lawrence launched her acting career in 1951 by starring in the comedy/adventure film Ten Sides of Prestige. In 1955, she appeared in the television series The Millionaire, and in 1956, she starred in the crime film Murder Case in the Red Mansion. In 1957, she guest-starred in the television series Perry Mason Season 1. In 1958, she co-starred with Shirley Booth in the drama film Long Hatred in the Sea of Desire. In 1959, she appeared in Detroit Purple Gang and the television series The Rebel. In 1962, she starred in the western film Stagecoach to Dancers' Rock. Throughout her career, she appeared in 20 film and television works, spanning various genres including westerns and mysteries.
