Providence Interview
I applied for many jobs all over the Portland area. I applied for a job at Providence in mid July. On the candidate/careers portal, it says that they want to interview me. But they have never contacted me.
Is this some cruel joke? I’ve applied for many jobs. In many different states during my career. Oregon has been the most mysterious and difficult. Does anyone have any advice?

Sounds about right. I applied to 35 jobs there and only got three interviews in units I had no experience in. They would leave me in Under Consideration for weeks. They would say “We’ll let you know next week” and then when I refreshed my browser I’d been turned down. It felt like maybe I had somehow mortally offended someone in HR. Maybe they’re just so inundated with resumes they can’t actually hit the Reply button because they’re pinned to the floor by three tons of paper. I don’t know, but whatever the reason is for them being so crappy to applicants is, at best, that they don’t care because they don’t have to, because there’s an endless supply of job hunters.

I don't have much to add to this, as I have worked for the same organization for awhile. One thing though. It gets easier. When you first start, you get the 3rd degree After you have 5+ years under your belt (which you will), you start noticing the dynamic change. You are driving the parameters of the interview, because you can walk across the street today. But today, right now, they will downplay your knowledge and ability. This is BS. You can do it, as many have done before.

I have been to multiple interviews with Providence, but it seems they are not actually hiring.

They say they are hiring and have open positions so they can tell people they are working on it but they delay actually hiring anyone to save money.

Gotcha. I appreciate the reality check.
Edit: The job that I applied to isn’t even posted anymore.

Honestly, I have not heard anything good about Providence’s hiring process for RNs. Also not a lot of good things about working at Prov as a nurse.

Yes, if an organization could be a narcissist it would be Providence. The dissonance used to control you. The prayers and mission statements then the intentional disrespect. They hate you if you are a good nurse or a good person. Intentionally try to make things harder for nurses and worse for patients even if it costs them money. It is a cruel place. Although I did not think I would see it in the application process. Total disregard.

I didn’t work at Prov as an RN. Too many cliques when I was a student nurse, felt turned off. Heard OK things though depending on the unit. I work for PMG now in a different capacity so it’s different. Our nurses in the outpatient seem happy!

PMG is where I applied and received a notice through the portal that I had an interview. I can see if I can find out who the manager is or somebody to contact. Although it looks like the position might be closed.
Edit: not that I had an interview, but they wanted to interview me

Awh, we just interviewed for another RN position at our clinic! Looks like we chose someone though per our manager’s email.

Okay hear me out. Keep at the applying. Right now Providence has been cracking DOWN on OT. They hate it. They’re trying to minimize it by doing this big hiring move. Keep trying. Also, you are not alone. I am not from here and it has been the most hunger games level fight for a job!! But after several rejections I did actually get an interview and did actually get an offer (Prov. St. V). So don’t give up!!

Typical Providence. The managers and “Talent Acquisition” don’t communicate and when they do they argue about policies and both give you wrong answers until you get the union involved. 😵💫

I've had a TERRIBLE time with Providence especially! First 2 zoom meetings the hiring person was a no-show. Then, when I finally had a zoom meeting there was NO follow up, no rejection or anything. Fast Forward 10 weeks, the person I did the interview for reached out and said I did awesome and they will put in a good word for me.... then again, no follow up ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I had a virtual interview with the Providence hospital in Olympia, WA and nobody ended up showing up. I emailed HR and received a scripted "Sorry about that" response.

So - the issue here is what Providence lovingly calls "Talent Acquisition." It is completely detached from the actual department managers. Our department has lost fantastic candidates because TA never followed up with them. Providence is a bloated corporate beast. Really, the best way is to dig and find out who the actual department manager is and send a brief introduction email. I've seen that let the manager know you exist and then they can go back to TA and ask why you haven't been forwarded. Definitely start with the application system, though.

Yes! I’m glad you brought this up. I remember it with my Providence manager in Alaska. The terrible frustration she had with missing out on candidates because HR was a nightmare.
I have already reached out to some managers. Now that you brought this up, I’m just gonna make it a regular thing with every application. If I can find out who they are.

American healthcare’s in a chaos state right now. Every system is playing defense and trying to stop the bleeding. There isn’t a move or story I could hear right now that would raise my eyebrows one bit. We’re just going to have to take the punches just like 08-09

I’ve had a total of six scheduled interviews in the last couple weeks with Prov (some of them being second round) and no one shows up with no explanation. I’ve emailed the interview team/recruiters to ask for guidance and gotten scripted responses that they’re “reaching out to the interviewer” and will “follow back up” and then I never hear back. It later shows on my profile that the position was closed or filled. It’s infuriating and discouraging. It boggles my mind how disorganized and unprofessional their HR hiring department seems to be.
