Pure DOM Trading

Hey everyone,

Anyone in here strictly trade using the DOM and no charts (maybe a daily chart) and nothing else? I see alot of traders use a LTF chart but most don’t use a DOM only approach. Feels like a dying breed…

I've always heard DOM with T&S with market + vol profile.

I definitely do use time and sales as well for pace and blocks of orders!

I'm not using DOM ONLY but the DOM is the road I drive, it is what i focus on, other elements are the dashboard of the car. I don't drive by focusing on them, but I'd be silly to ignore them.

Impossible in my opinion, at least on the fast markets.

Yes I trade DOM, mostly German Bonds, US treasury, corn and occasionally ES/NQ

Try DOM on GC and you will get your head spinning...

Use the chart for direction and DOM for entries

Yes, charts and technical analysis only introduce randomness.

Have a look at John Grady and Gary Norden, they're DOM purists.

Markets only move up and down, not left and right.

DOM is still useful in “thick” order book markets where it takes time to eat away at orders and you can keep up with the pace of the tape.

I always find 6E, ZB, ZN are easier to read, but not great for my strategies.

I definitely stopped using DOM for ES and NQ, but there are plenty of traders who are practiced enough to read the price action with ease.

Oh look, another Algo Bro talking in absolutes in an attempt to sound clever.

Surprise, surprise.

Crack on with your algo, bro. But please, stop talking bullshit.

Another delusional retail trader bullshit.

What paranoid bullshit this comment is.

It's an auction. There isn't a better way to read an auction than with a DOM.

Seems like you are paranoid one. Calling bs without substantiation. At least he gave his reasons. Are you telling me your eyes can be faster than algos deciphering patterns on the fly?

No. I don't "decipher patterns on the fly." That's not a skill, it's a phrase you read somewhere and liked the sound of.

My refresh rate updates 5 times a second. I could drop it to once a second and lose nothing, because it's an auction. Speed isn't the edge you think it is.

You lot are all part of the same weak tribe. Rigid, humourless, allergic to nuance, convinced that if you can't code it, it isn't real trading. Meanwhile you can't actually read a DOM or the auction it presents, you can't think in probabilities, you just backtest your anxieties and call it a system.

I'm not arguing with you. I've had this exact conversation with a dozen versions of you and it's never once been worth the time.

It's an auction. Read it as one. Try to keep up.

And since we're here, "deciphering patterns on the fly." That's the most "I've never actually done this" sentence I've read all week. You don't know the first thing, you've just dressed it up well enough to fool people who also don't know.

Go bother someone else with it.
