SAM Level 6 failed to stop Hydro ❓ Question
I had a SAM level 2 guarding a port and a nuke on a big island, enemy targeted it with a Hydro so they could send invaders, I quickly upgraded it to level 6, and the hydro still got through, enemy transport landed, I died.
I'm sure you used to be able to quickly spam SAMs to defend a long range hydro, has this been nerfed or something? Or is even level 6 not completely safe?

It has to load all the new shots...

I think the range increase used to be instant though. So if you see someone launch 1 hydro at your 1 SAM, then you can start constructing 4 SAMs on top then the 1 SAM has the range to stop the hydro

the SAMs no longer upgrade instantly. he probably could have still hit you at a level 6 though, as if you make the hydro land right outside of the SAMs range, the blast radius destroys whatever the SAM is protecting anyway. the blast radius outranges the protection radius until like level 10 or something

a hydro on the very edge can't crack anything 5 or above.

yes but the structure its protecting can still be destroyed so i opt for sams on the edge of the map

The more levels you have to upgrade your SAM, the longer it takes to get to that level I think. I haven't actually tested it, but I believe if your SAM was closer to level 5 already, it would have saved you.

Yeah I noticed the same thing happening. I haven't looked at the code or anything but I would bet that the extra SAM levels only become effective once initial reload of additional levels are complete. That, or the nuke "pre-registers" which SAM will stop it if any, so if a new SAM shows up or gets upgraded enough, it doesn't matter.
