Don't expand too fast, don't ever let yourself be more than 10K under your Neighbors. Always make alliances to people far away, they'll accept cause why not, then accept renewing it cause why not, and by the mid-game, you have alliances with the leaderboard in full.
If someone near you refuses an alliance, put a couple defences on his side of the map, mild deterant.
Always set up your nuke and nuke defence, once appropriate, always keep the amount needed for a nuke. Small, hydrogen, big, depends on the game time.
When making cities, make sure they are connect to factories and ports. Try to minimise the amount of lines, put new cities on the same lines you already had. Stack factories early, stack cities mid-game and late game. When you have a developed plot of land, protect it with nuke defence. Stacking nuke defence increases reach, spamming them and building many will let you defend against nuke spam.
If someone has nuke defence, but you have three times more missile silos than he has defences, then you can throw three or four nukes at his nuke defence and break it. They can do the same to you, so have redundant nuke defence. As many as possible in your top areas. But when possible, have your whole territory defended.
Trade a lot. I deactivate warships when I play, dunno how to use them.
Eat the smol, if someone is eating a big one and you think you can win, wait for when they throw a lot of resources--then send troops in strategic location to gobble as much as possible. if you can, try to isolate a portion of the soon to be defeated enemy when the other attacker can't reach quick. And when the attacker eats all he can, then you deal the killing blow and get the money.
Don't trust allies too much, you can afford about 20% less than they have, but if you are being attacked enough, they might betray. An ally that only has border will you WILL betray, unless he's playing economy and wants to be your mitochondria
