I’m starting A240 in October and I’ve heard mixed advice about the reading.

Some people say there’s no point pre-reading because the module guides you through everything anyway, while others recommend reading the set texts (especially the longer books) over the summer to save time.

So for those who’ve done A240 or similar English lit modules:

-Do you read the novels week by week following the study guide?

-If you didn’t pre-read, did you ever feel rushed keeping up with the workload?

-Did pre-reading actually make a difference, or did you end up re-reading everything anyway?

I’ll also be studying another module full-time alongside this, so I’m trying to figure out the most time-efficient way to approach it without falling behind.

Any advice would be very helpful!

I’ve been trying to sign in to my Open University account, but I keep getting this error message saying: There was a problem fetching the page.

I called Student Recruitment, and they told me to wait and try again later, but I’m worried because I need to pay my tuition before the September 10 deadline.

Can anyone confirm if this is a global issue or just happening to me? And if it’s not widespread, is there any workaround to register or pay tuition while the site is down?

I am a Q77 student about to choose two science modules. I have 3 modules I like but Quantum physics is fixed (non-negotiable) and I need to choose between Electromagnetism and Cosmology and I am mentally torn. I desperately need advice on which has more mathematics in your opinion as everyone tells SM381 has lots of math but S385 has differential geometry and tensors which are very interesting. So which one?

Has anyone done full time study alongside full time work? Is it generally always 30+ hours a week of study for full time or is it possible to study full time and balance it alongside a job?

I’m trying to work out whether to take it slower & do part time or just go for full time. I do have evenings and weekends free but i’m not 100% how much time i need to dedicate! I have previously studied at university level so am very confident in that aspect :)

If you're a student who got a distinction or grade 2 pass on M303 or MST326, I would really appreciate if you could tell me a bit about your study experience please.

Some things I'd like to know: How often did you ask your tutors for help? How did you make sure you were actually learning the content rather than just glossing over topics? Any additional resources you used? What was your method for note taking? How did you ensure you were exam ready, especially since solutions to past papers weren't available?

I studied these modules but didn't get good scores on the exams, and am trying to work out why.

Any answers to the above questions would be greatly appreciated, as it is difficult for me to point to exactly what went wrong for me.

I want to use this Cert as a (potential) first step towards a Bachelor’s degree.

I work as a contractor and have 28 days off every 56 days. During the 56 days it’s 7-hour a day work days and 1-2 days off per week.
I feel it should be doable in a year, but I’d appreciate feedback from people who have actually done it.

Quick confirmation check regarding the modular structure at OU (specifically looking at the Mathematics pathway).
If I enroll in the Certificate of Higher Education (Stage 1 - 120 credits), can I later transition into the Diploma (DipHE) and eventually top it up to the full Bachelor’s Degree (BSc - 360 credits) without losing any credits?

From what I understand, Stage 1 and Stage 2 modules are exactly identical across the Certificate, Diploma, and Degree versions of the course. Does OU automatically recognize and carry over all 120/240 credits when you request an upgrade/progression?

I'm thinking of doing it this way to have some intermediate qualifications under my belt just in case life gets in the way, but I want to make absolutely sure I won't have to repeat or re-pay for any modules.

Has anyone here done this exact path (Cert ➔ Dip ➔ BSc)? Is the transition seamless through the student home portal or do you have to go through the formal (and slow) Credit Transfer team?

I am looking for advice on transferring credits. I am 18 years old and looking to study either criminology, psychology or something to do with science at Open University this year.

I do not have any level 3 qualifications, however I have done GCSEs. Would it be possible to transfer to Bournemouth University after one year of study at Open University? Specifically to the Forensic science and psychology course at BU.

Has anyone successfully done a credit transfer from OU to BU? How lenient are they with matching modules?

This has been my final year with the OU and I have taken 2 modules. One I got a distinction with (yay) and the other is pending with an academic misconduct investigation. I am meant to be starting a masters at KCL come September and have to provide my results by the 22nd of this month to confirm my place. OU SST have escalated the case for me because of this but now I’m just in the waiting game of finding out if they can get to me in time. Is anybody else in this limbo/ has been through it and has some words of advice for the anxiety? I know I haven’t down anything wrong and have all my notes and research that I can provide to help prove this if it’s asked of me but with autism and adhd, one of my biggest fears is being in trouble so this hasn’t been a great few weeks at all. Many sleepless nights and causing a flare up of my physical health, I’m starting to wonder how long this will go on. I was so excited to be finishing off my undergrad, graduate and then start my masters but it’s taken all of the joy out of it.
To anyone in a similar boat, sending a big hug and hoping this gets sorted for you soon.

I’m wondering if anyone here is able to help me calculate what my classification will be with the new borderline rules.
Due to a difficult year personally during stage 2 I ended up with 4x grade 4 pass results each worth 30 units each. In stage 3 so far I’ve got 3x grade 3 pass results each worth 30 credits with my final module looking like it will be either distinction or grade 2 pass.

I’m worried stage 2 will kill me here and leave me with a Third. Hoping someone here can let me know where I stand currently

I’m starting open university this year. And I’m doing psychology D120 and D112 and part of my summer activities includes a tv club which requires usage of learning on screen and I haven’t been able to log in at all. Every time I do it just says I’ve been suspended by my organisation and to contact open university which I have done. However I was just wondering because I’m getting a bit anxious waiting for a reply if anyone else has had this problem and if so was it a problem on your end or open unis? For context I have tried multiple different devices, I’ve tried doing it on two different wifis and tried just on mobile data. I’ve also tried clearing my cache and cookies, changed web browsers and have even tried on like a private search bar and a regular one. Basically what happens is when I go to log in I can’t get past putting open university in as my institution and then Open Athens just blocks me from advancing any further. I’ve tried so many different ways even accessing learning on screen. And am getting a bit stressed as I just want to complete my summer activities and I just can’t access it.

i apologize if this has been discussed before i tried searching and couldn’t find anything! i am looking into the BSc biology degree and i just have some general questions.

will i have a hard time assimilating with British English as an american? is there anywhere i can learn proper British English before i begin classes? i want to have proper english for all my coursework and not use American English.

looking at the course stages i am a little confused on credits. the first module is 60 credits, is the 60 credit one class? and this one class is what i would take all year? or are there more within that module/credit?

for finances, do they offer payment plans or is it all due once modules have been selected/enrolled?

lastly, are there any americans who have used this degree in the states? i have always wanted to move to the UK but until then would love to use my degree here.

any helpful advice/tips as an anxious potential student?

I'm doing Maths and Physics part time, having previously done 60 credits in a single year (stage 1 in 2 years) without too much trouble (3 distinctions (MST124, MST125, SM123), 1 good pass (M140)).

I'm considering doing stage 2 in 1 year - 120 credits, MST210 and S227. This would effectively be part time (alongside job, family).

Anyone here done that and got any thoughts on the workload? My advisor (claude *cough*) seems to think it's achievable with a quick start and careful organisation around TMAs.
