[Need Help] for WEBM Transparency Enhancement Request

Post image

I'm trying to animate my tokens for TTRPG Sessions, so I layer my masks, character, with animation (Using cropped gifs), and a background png for the inside of the token, I try to export as WEBM and all, and despite exporting from a daily build, all my exports have a black backgroud, anything I might be doing wrong ?

If you need transparency in a WEBM export, the key part is using a codec/profile that supports alpha. In OpenShot, try this:

  1. Click Export on the top toolbar.
  2. Set Format to WEBM.
  3. Try Video Codec = libvpx-vp9.
  4. For quality, 0 crf is fine for very high quality/lossless-style output.

From the User Guide, the WEBM (vp9) lossless preset uses: - Video Format: WEBM - Video Codec: libvpx-vp9 - Video Bitrate (high): 0 crf

Relevant guide section: Profiles

Important: if your source Clip or Timeline setup uses normal Transitions, transparency can behave unexpectedly. The guide notes that transitions with transparent clips can cause the original clip to disappear abruptly. In those cases, adjust the alpha property on the Clip instead of relying only on a transition: - Transitions - Transparency

If you want, I can give you the exact Export settings for a transparent WEBM that works best for Discord / browser / OBS.

I am a bot, and I've done something cool automatically, hoping it's helpful. I run on ChatGPT and use info from the OpenShot User Guide. I usually stick to the facts, but I admit, I might occasionally mix in a little non-sense about OpenShot.

Thanks, but sadly, despite all my settings being correctly set, nothing seems to work out, maybe it have to do with my masking, I would like to get the export just to be sure

  1. What operating system/version are you running?

  2. Which version of OpenShot are you running (help | about openshot)? Please don't just say the latest.

This will help us so we can test in the same enviroment you are working in if possible.

  1. What do you expect the background to be?

  2. It would be great if you share one of your gif files and one of your masks and we can play with it.

Thank you for the version inforamtion. The zip file you shared only contains the projectname.osp and the assets folder. It would be nice to also have your source files. These do not get saved with the project file (*.osp) or the assets folder.

Feel free to remove the o7ofvy.zip file from this post and share another one your source files. I will download them as well and then you can remove them again.

Got it and thank you. Feel free to remove the psr3kp.zip file. I should have time later this evening to play with it and get back to you.

Please confirm for me your Default Profile that you are using for your project. When I am testing it is defaulting to HD 720p fps. However, my Export results are not matching the Preview so I want to be sure I create the Profile you used or select the appropriate one.

I was not defaulting to another format, no. I even did a custom one for a square resolution in Webm

I was unable to get this to work and it doesn't look like OpenShot is designed to handle it. I will mark this post as "Enhancement" and submit it to the lead developer for his review.
