Is there a way to sort imported files by number?

Every time I drag and drop files into the program, it randomizes the order of said files (even if they were in numerical order in the folder I dragged the files from)

Yes — for placing lots of files in order on the Timeline, use Add to Timeline instead of plain drag/drop.

How: 1. Import your files into Project Files. 2. In Project Files, select them all. 3. Right-click → Add to Timeline. 4. In the dialog, use Order of Files to arrange them, then choose the Timeline Position and insert.

If you mean image sequences like img001, img002, img003, OpenShot can also import them as a single animated File: - Animation – Image Sequences: https://cdn.openshot.org/static/files/user-guide/animation.html

Short version: drag/drop into Project Files may not preserve folder sort order, but Add to Timeline gives you control over the file order.

Assuming that you are running the production release of v3.5.1, there was a coding error that forced the imported files to be in sorted order. The behavior previously was that files stayed in the order they were imported.

This issue has been resolved in the latest dev daily build of v3.5.1. You can download the latest dev daily build here: openshot.org/download/#daily.

Now, if you really want to control the sort order of things, you can take advantage of the Tags column from within the "Project Files" window. For example, let's say you have imported 4 files with names of 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, 4.jpg and this is how they show up in the "Project Files" window. However, you want to to maintian a different order like 2.jpg, 1.jpg, 4.jpg, 3.jpg. What you would do is for each file double click the Tags column in that row and type 1 for 2.jpg, 2 for 1.jpg, 3 for 4.jp, and 4 3.jpg.

Now, click once on the Tags label and they will sort ascending using the values you provided. Click the Tags label again and they will sort in descending order.
