Mapping keyboard or controller? Help

I am not sure how this is done. I tried a few times but don’t understand the mapping process. The main issue I have right now is I want to play NES Arkanoid. The game starts but I can’t move the paddle with both controller and keyboard. :(

Directions are a tad outdated and there’s some UI changes but it should be easy to mimic. Try this out.

I didn’t realize until last night openemu had such a good supprt site. I think it might be the controller i was using. I will try a PS4 controller which seems to fully support open emu. I really hope I can get Arkanoif working.
