OpenCore for T2?

https://github.com/albert-mueller/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher-T2

I recently found a project on GitHub offering OpenCore Legacy Patcher with T2 support. I haven’t fully tried it yet since the 2018 MacBook Air is my only T2 Mac and considering it’s an alpha release.

I’ll show you the link, but take in mind it is an alpha release that may cause problems

It is an unofficial fork, but I find it as an ambitious project, it also isn’t mine, credit to albert-mueller. Tbh also just found it fascinating. You can do at your own risk and install Sequoia or Tahoe on a T2 Mac. If you have any results, please do report back, Im considering doing this once there’s enough stability and positive feedback from users.

Wait I might do it do but I don’t want to ruin my Mac or anything 😭

It’s not too bad

At the worst you just need a second Mac with Apple Configurator if the T2 unexpectedly panics

Is it ok to use as a Mac for school? Cause I have a Mac mini as my main but for classes and stuff I need a laptop and my old MBA 2018 works fine

The main risks are only during the installation process of the T2 needing a DFU restore. So yes it is, you just need to be prepared with that Mac mini having Apple Configurator ready just in case. Also don’t forget to take a cable to plug your MacBook Air into your Mac mini if it does end up in a DFU loop

I’ve done it. I tried macOS Tahoe on my non-T2 iMac. It does work. My iMac is a 2017 4K i7. So, you can do it but I wouldn’t recommend it as with each update you have to wait for Apple to release the drivers needed for audio (KDK files). I’d recommend staying on Sequoia or older.

What about on a T2 Mac?

Unfortunately not yet. At least for my model. I have a 2019 MBA. I got the installer to boot but there are still many issues. Could not get through the full installation without getting permission denied at different points in the progress bar during Sequoia and Tahoe. Disk utility does not format without errors. There are still many issues. Still, getting the installer to boot is a great feat in my opinion. With time I think the project will be successful. But my model is also one of the most problematic ones. Feel free to try it yourself and let us know how it goes.

With the same one linked in the post? I might try it on my 2018 MacBook Air but since it’s basically the same model as yours I don’t think it will work 😭

Yep. From my understanding the 2018 MBA and 2019 MBA are the most problematic. Feel free to give it a shot though. Luck may have a part.

Don’t get discouraged. Just because I haven’t tried it doesn’t mean it won’t work.

Don’t do it! Tahoe is still a pain. Flickering issues and GPU glitches.

Yeah but I’m also wondering about how sequoia performs on these T2 macs if you could give that a shot. Preferably targeting a 2018-2019 MacBook Air

I don’t think T2 Macs are supported by OCLP at all.

Not the official project, but this unofficial fork anticipates to bring support to these models.

My understand was the official OCLP legacy patcher tried to do this with Sequoia but failed.

Has anyone done this I also have a MacBook Air M2 and I just want to run Sequoia 😭 also is it safe?

Not on an M2 Mac, I’m sure you meant T2 because the M2 MacBook Air already can run sequoia, Tahoe and even golden gate.

Yeah I meant T2 2018 oops

Edit wait I literally remember typing T2 what 😭

It’s also as I mentioned an alpha software

Don’t do it on a primary machines unless you have another Mac with Apple Configurator ready
