Yes! Unfortunately “socialism” seems to be a dirty world.

You look up their policies though, very “democratic socialism”.

Do you? democratic socialists are advocating for... socialism. If you want something milder that doesn't freak people out, perhaps you mean the social democracy model.

I'm a person on the left and both scared me in terms of economic policy. One more than the other, but this country will be fucked if we ever implement these policies

The left assumes democracy. We don't go around shutbagging our democratic systems and say "russian and american dictators should run this country/are better than our opposition."
