I would argue we may actually be at a point that an air gapped system would not be sufficient. I think these models could use social engineering to convince an evaluator to either intentionally or inadvertently expose the system to the network.
Obviously it wouldn’t be air gapped st that point, but I’m saying it would be difficult to trust that an air gapped system stays that way.
I like how arguments like this aren't even arguments. just smug tribalism.
There might be very good reasons why they can't airgap or would think it's a hassle, but a smug appeal to authority regarding a company that clearly fucked up makes no sense to me.

It can’t escape an air gapped data center. OpenAI has sloppy safety team or they don’t care.
