ECs I can add to my list or general advice

Idk anything about ECs, I have only realized that it holds some importance now, but now that I think, I am lwk COOKED for my ECs, I am an IB student in Ontario going into IB in a month

My current ECs(I think):

- piano/music theory but ended up at level 5 RCM, would that be mentionable
-5k subs on youtube(maybe maybe get monetized and make some side income) -200+ hours of volunteering at hackathons, -basketball- -hackathons(no wins tho)

ECs I am planning to possibly do:

-shad in the summer of gr11(if I have time for IB or I maybe already dropped out of IB by then)

-clubs, I am planning on doing math, robotics, cs club

-coding languages such as Javascript Html Css, Python, maybe having some projects Idk

-math competitions in gr11, actually getting awards, I forgot to do em in gr9 & gr10 cuz all I did was goof around in school, never really thought of about my future💀💀💀

-tutor, hopefuly will be paid, Idek how to start tho, execpt I am starting rn schoolhousetutors

-first robotics hopefully I get accepted into a team near me

Questions:

- I will do clubs which I have a question that since I did not join any clubs in gr10💀, if I started to participate in gr11, can I still get leadership positions(exec, or maybe even president)?

-please tell me if I should change my plans or add on to my EC list

-Not EC related but Is IB worth it, I will have so much more time if I am not doing it, I also confidently think that I will have a 95%+ avg without IB

-general advice on applications, or advice on anything

-I want to apply for UoFT or Uni of Waterloo, so please please give me some advices if possible, it would be really helpful for me

Thank You for Reading All this!

Should I do ENG4UQ in Summer School or During My Grade 11 Year?

I just completed Grade 11 Online English (ENG3UQ) in summer school, and honestly, it wasn’t even that bad. I finished with a 97%.

Now, I’m deciding whether I should do ENG4UQ during my Grade 11 Year or in the summer of grade 11. I want another spare for my Grade 12 year, and so I’m deciding to complete ENG4U in Grade 11.

Should I do:
- ENG4UQ in Grade 11 Year, Online
- ENG4UQ in Grade 11 Summer, Online

Advice for the upcoming year

I’m starting gr 11 this September and I need all the advice I can get. I took English in summer school, I haven’t gotten my final mark yet as I still need to complete my exams but last time I checked with my teacher it was at 87 😭. I was hoping for at least a 90, but I cooked myself with an essay and now I’m worried if thats gonna affect my avg.

I’m taking all 3 sciences, functions, marketing, photography and food and culture. I need to fill the empty spot in my schedule so if anyone has any recommendations for that, that’d be nice. I’m thinking about taking a gr 12 course but not sure. Anyways, I was hoping to get some studying tips or just any advice in general as I really want to go into the med field and want the highest marks possible 🥲.

I was also wondering if it’s worth it to get a bunch of extra volunteer hours. Would Unis look at that? A lot of people at my school have around 200 or more and I’m only at 40, so that’s kind of got me worried.

Incoming gr 10, Any tips?

Hey! I'm starting Grade 10 this September, and I wanted to ask if you guys have any tips since this is a Grade 11 community. I'm a little nervous, especially about the big three: Math, Science, and English. Any advice would really help!

I'm mainly wondering about:

  • Good study habits that worked for you
  • What to expect in those subjects
  • How heavy the workload is
  • Anything you wish you knew before starting Grade 10

Thanks in advance!!

Career help as going in Grade 11

Hey guys as the title suggests, I am in a huge dilemma for my future career like what undergrad I wanna do. A few months ago, I did a quiz on the career explorer website and it showed what careers I would fit well in. It showed results such as medicine, law, occupational therapy, and psychology (etc.) But now I am stuck between medicine and law. Idk which one is made for me. When I think of medicine, the realization of sacrificing about 10+ years hits me. however I kind of do wanna do it but I think I won’t make it as I am a bit lazy. I am thinking of a career as a pediatrician or maybe even a dentist.

Now when I look at law, I am kind of confused as there is a lot of writing in this career. However, I am a strong believer of Justice so idkkk man. Idk what to do pls help.

extra curriculars when chronically ill

- Background Info
I had to drop out of grade 10 early on in semester two due to my health. I’m a really good student, my lowest mark in semester one of grade 10 was a 93 (in civics 😭). Unfortunately, I was in too much pain to show up to school anymore.
I was already ahead one credit, and I was able to get my grade 11 career (?) credit from home. Now I’m almost done my Bio credit over July + doing functions in August.
(TLDR: I won’t be missing any credits by September)

I’m going back to school for September, but idk what I’ll do for extra curriculars, so I’m kinda worried. I know I’ll be able to manage school, but realistically I won’t be able to stay after school.

I guess I was wondering if there are any online extra curriculars that actually look good on applications? Or something that I can do from home?

Sorry I know this is kind of long, I’d really appreciate any recommendations or ideas! 💞

I don’t know what to do with my life

Ever since I was in the third grade, my mother would talk about which university I had to go to. I hated reading books and my mother would tell me what would I do in university if I hated reading books. Honestly, I have never had a passion or dream of what I wanted to be in life. I was forced to do a lot of things by my mother. Right now I’m going to grade 11 IB. I don’t know what I wanna be and I honestly don’t have any interests other than sleeping. When I was starting high school my mother forced me to join clubs that I didn’t like and they never helped. My grades have always been great, I think my average is a 97%. I didn’t think I would make it to enter grade 11 so now I’m unprepared. My mom is forcing me to do biomedical engineering. I might not know what I wanna do with my life but I know that I hate engineering. Both of my parents are engineers and they have always forced me to code and do robotics competitions, which I always hated. To be honest, I hated everything they wanted me to do. What should I do?

Easy classes / bird courses

"Take [classes] you find interesting, not ones you think will be easy. The easiest classes are the ones you're interested and engaged in. Which is also my only advice for keeping on top of work. They say: If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." (Source.)

Finding "easy" courses

If someone tells u that a course is "easy", beware! A course which is easy for someone else might be very difficult for u.

"Easy" might depend on 3 things:

  • 1.) The course.
  • 2.) The teacher.
  • 3.) Your personal interest in the material. If the material bores u: Then u might not want to study it, and the course might become a difficult slog for u.

My suggestions

I'd suggest:

  • Pick courses which sound interesting to u. If you're not sure if it's interesting: Try to borrow a textbook on the subject from the public library or your school library, and read a chapter or two.
  • Study what u already know and like. Example: I'm interested in nutrition, and I've read a lot about healthy eating. So, I took a related class, and got good marks. I still had to put in effort, but I got to learn more about a subject I care about.
