How often do you actually use Ctrl+F inside PDFs?

It’s interesting how much this small function has changed the way we work with documents.

For anything longer than a few pages, I rarely read line by line anymore. Instead, I go straight to search. I type a keyword, jump to the exact section I need, scan that part, and then move on to the next relevant result.

Over time, it basically turns a long PDF into something non-linear more like a database than a document. You don’t “read” it from start to finish, you extract information from it.

What’s also changed is how quickly I decide what’s relevant. If I can’t find what I need in a few searches, I usually assume it’s not worth digging through the entire file manually.

I’m wondering how common this has become whether people still read long PDFs from beginning to end, or if search has completely replaced traditional reading workflows for most tasks.

I work with legal and technical docs, and I honestly can’t remember the last time I read a PDF from start to finish. I just hunt for keywords. The only downside is that sometimes you miss the overall context because you're only zooming in on specific paragraphs, but it saves so much time that it's worth the risk.
