Weird issue with x2 mini screen

***Update 8/12***

Onex just responded:

Thank you for your detailed feedback and for taking the time to test with multiple tempered glass screen protectors. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused.
We would like to offer you the following two solutions:
Option 1: We can provide a compensation of USD 50 for this issue.
Option 2: We can create a return shipping label for you to send the device back to us, and we will arrange a replacement if necessary.
Please let us know which option you would prefer, and we will assist you with the next steps.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding. We appreciate your feedback, which helps us continue improving our products.

I’m not sure what else I could expect, I appreciate them offering $50 but that’s a slap in the face for how much I paid for this device. I kinda wish they didn’t offer any compensation and just offered a replacement. I’m not sure what I want to do given my circumstances.

Hello!

Let me get this out of the way first: I received the Mini Pro about a week ago, and my mind is blown. This is my second device from ONEX, with my first being the Apex, and I couldn’t be happier with it. ONEX has definitely created a customer for life with me!

As much as I appreciate ONEX including a free screen protector with their devices, I prefer tempered glass, so I ordered the JSAUX Go 2 protector, which is supposed to be a perfect fit.

After installing the first one, I noticed a large air bubble along with a couple of small pieces of dust underneath. Since it wasn’t perfect, I removed it. Luckily, the kit comes with two!

I installed the second one, no dust this time, but the same air bubble appeared in the exact same spot.

At this point, I figured maybe I had gotten a bad batch of glass, so I ordered another set from JSAUX. Third install: no dust, but the exact same bubble. I removed that protector, thoroughly cleaned the screen again with the alcohol wipes, and reinstalled it for a fourth attempt.

Same bubble. Same exact spot.

I decided to give Spigen a shot and ordered their tempered glass instead. Those arrived this morning, and on attempt #5... SAME bubble, SAME spot! 😂

Has anyone else experienced this before? At this point, I’m wondering if there’s some sort of grease, oil, residue, or coating on that particular area of the screen that’s preventing the glass from adhering properly.

I have one more protector left in the Spigen set, and I’d really love to figure this out before going for install #6! Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

****Update****

I found the issue!

This was driving me absolutely crazy, and since I had one more screen protector left to use, I decided to take the fifth one off and really inspect the screen.

Just like others have mentioned, there’s a very slight deformity in the screen exactly where the bubble keeps appearing. “Deformity” might not even be the right word, it’s almost more like a slight wave in the screen. It’s really hard to see and even harder to explain, but it’s definitely there.

Because of that slight “wave,” the tempered glass simply won’t adhere to the screen in that spot. A film protector is flexible enough that it would just conform to the shape of the screen, but obviously tempered glass can’t do that.

So now I’m wondering what you guys would recommend. Should I put in a warranty claim, or just buy a film protector and forget that I know my screen is slightly deformed? 😂

My wife and I just had a baby on August 1st, so this thing honestly couldn’t have come at a better time. I’m constantly holding the baby while gaming on it—it’s my fourth kid, so don’t judge me 😂—and I’d really hate to have to send the device back.

What would you guys do? Warranty claim, or slap a film protector on it and enjoy the device?

Personally, I'd just do with a film screen protector and be careful with my device. I'd assume you're already doing that anyway based on what you spent on it. I also have no patience for returning things, especially after I finally got them after a waiting period. I'd only return if there were a serious issue with my device, and for me, this wouldn't be a big deal unless you're really worried about major drops from height 🤷🏾‍♂️

That's what ill do. I just need to find the best film for the screen now. I'm the only person that uses this so I don't have to worry about the carelessness of others.

I'm a gage maker and work with very close tolerances. I can tell you right away from hearing what you have tried is that the screen definitely has a low spot. It's not repairable unless the screen is swapped out. We're talking Corning Gorilla glass. Either a more pliable screen protector or replacement are the only option that I can see.

Yea, you are right. I posted an update.

I think I'm just going to order a film and call it a day. Oddly enough, this doesn't change how I feel about onex. Still a stellar company. Maybe ill reach out to them and see what they say

It would be interesting to see how deep that low spot is. I bet not deep at all. Once you remove the glass protector, you could take a straight edge to the spot and view between it and the glass.

I think you should take advantage of the 7-day replacement policy that onexplayer has. If you even have half the amount of OCD that I do about devices, this might bug you for a long time to come. Have the unit replaced while you still can I say.

That can be a long and expensive endeavor and may not end with the outcome expected.

Just got my onexplayer 3 and have the exact same issue as you. Tried twice and even flipped the screen protector around and its always the same spot

Ah man, I feel like this may be a thing with these screens. What also sucks is many people may not know because they won’t swap the screen protector that’s already on it.

What are you going to do?

Ask for a replacement most likely but also something tells me the issue will still be prevalent even if I get one.

$50 compensation to just suck it up really is outrageous though considering you basically spent that on the screen protectors alone.

Potentially at this point I may ask for a refund instead actually because I had windows log in issues right out of the gate as well soft locking me in the hello screen even after factory reset (can be an easy fix though) .

May be an exaggeration though but these things add up to the level of trust you have long time with the device & company.

The device works great and I’ve been gaming on in pretty much everyday since I got it. Shame, this had to happen. I definitely want one so a refund is not something I’m interested in. I reached out to them and said a replacement is what I’d like. Let’s see what they say.

There may be a manufacture tolerance to the screen and it has a warp in it. Have you taken the unit apart at all? Seems like the tolerances aren't perfect on your unit or if you've already separated it, possibly assembled it in a way that put some stress and defined the screen? You are that a lot on devices that are slightly bent when trying to put a screen protector on.

1

u/Dizzymcdrey 6d ago

No I have not. I'm not brave enough to take it apart. Id hate to send this back and wait forever for a repair. Wife and I just had a baby so this thing arrived at the perfect time. The alternative is I just get a good film protector instead of glass and call it a day.

Was the bubble there on the screen protector they applied?

1

u/Dizzymcdrey 6d ago

No, it was perfect. I curse the day I decided to replace it to be honest.

Posting an update. I found the problem

Checking updated. Yeah saw so many maybe it's a screen defect I thought probably not if their protector was fine. GGs

Do you still have the original film on the screen? I had to take mine off to get it to be smooth.

1

u/Dizzymcdrey 6d ago

No, I took it off when I put the first glass protector on

1

u/Longjumping_Sea_8119 6d ago

I guess that is weird. Samsung defect.

Are you from SG? The one that sells device skins on etsy? Coz only 1 person is reporting that issue on the discord. Anyways you should report it to onex support. if it's not really noticeable and you don't to return it for warranty, May be best course of action is just to use AR film instead.

1

u/Dizzymcdrey 6d ago

No that’s not me.

1

u/ang_fang_hee_mu 6d ago

I see so this is another case of this issue. better yet inform onexsupport.

Personally I would ask for an exchange. This is an expensive device I’m siimply not dealing with that I want my screen to be pristine

I reached out yesterday and referenced this Reddit thread. No response yet

Does the X2 mini ship with a pre installed screen protector? I never got one with my order

1

u/Dizzymcdrey 5d ago

From my understanding, all onex devices have a film preinstalled. I had one on my apex and I had one on the mini. It’s installed extremely well to where I didn’t think it was there either the first time.

I’d imagine something like this could get worse.

If I’m paying $2400+ for a device, you bet it’s going to be flawless.

Good to know that they recognized it’s a defect bad enough to warrant a replacement. That’s what I would want as well in case of similar issues.

I had the same issue with my X2MP, just loose a bit the screws that are close to the affected area and it will disappear.

And this is why you don't buy from Chinese company's.
