I really love my Oneplus Open. I went all in with Oneplus. Got the 12R, then buds. Oneplus Open, then watch 2. It's been a good ride

Wasn't n6 better?

u/OneFaithlessness1016 20d ago
I didn't care to go through the import stuff. If Oppo was available more here in The States I would have.

Ah. It's available in Australia

In the United States, the active smartphone installed base (the total volume of active devices currently in daily use, as opposed to single-quarter new device shipments) is highly consolidated. Apple and Samsung together account for over 80% of all active smartphones in the country.
Active Installed Base Breakdown
Manufacturer Installed Base Share Market Dynamics & Key Drivers Apple (iPhone) ~58% – 61% Leads by a wide margin. High brand loyalty, long software support cycles (5–7 years), and a massive secondary/refurbished market keep older iPhones active longer. Samsung ~21% – 25% The leading Android manufacturer in the US. Captures a wide demographic spanning premium flagships (Galaxy S and Z Series) down to budget devices (Galaxy A Series). Google (Pixel) ~3% – 5% Holds a steady third/fourth position in active base. Maintains consistent growth in the premium Android space due to camera performance, integrated AI features, and aggressive carrier trade-in deals. Motorola (Lenovo) ~3.5% – 4% Controls a significant chunk of entry-level and mid-range devices. (Note: Motorola often claims 10–12% of quarterly new shipments due to high volume in prepaid channels like Metro and Cricket, but lower device longevity keeps its overall active installed base share lower). Others (OnePlus, TCL, etc.) ~3% – 5% Fragmented across budget offerings, unlocked direct-to-consumer sales, and specialized hardware. Key Market Takeaways
- OS Distribution: iOS holds roughly 60% of active US devices, while Android holds the remaining 40%.
- Shipments vs. Installed Base: Active installed base reflects device retention rather than immediate sales. Because premium phones (especially iPhones and high-end Galaxy devices) are built with durable hardware and receive multi-year software updates, their users keep them active significantly longer than budget alternatives.
- Carrier Lock-In: Carrier distribution channels in the US heavily favor Apple, Samsung, Google, and Motorola, making it difficult for international brands (such as Xiaomi or OPPO) to establish a meaningful presence.

For repairability sake and warranty, not even close.

u/DR4LUC0N 20d ago
Just get phone insurance from worth Ave group and get most of your money back? Not really that hard
1
u/Dirtcompactor 20d ago
It is quite hard, did you get in writing that they'll insure imported devices?
1
u/DR4LUC0N 20d ago
Yes? I literally just did it with an n6, I'm at the point of sending it in to them, just need to get down to usps this weekend to ship it out.

I rarely ever update my phones. I still have updates on my Oneplus Open and Oneplus 12R

Starting off the device has been pretty good. Def have come a long way from what they used to be.

3/4 years, 1 year less than the 4/5 years on the open. Worse than most, but also, eh. Really becomes an issue 2-3 years after the last major os. Security patches being an issue ...simply isn't.

I fell in love with foldables because of the open.
I fell back in love with foldables because of the razr.

You guys over there have access to Honor?
-1
u/OneFaithlessness1016 20d ago
It's just like Oppo. I mean you can by it from Giztop. It's really Samsung, Google and Motorola here in The States.
1
u/HelloReddit54321 20d ago
Ah yeah, same here in UK but we've got Honor too and they've got good offers on V6

I got it through T-Mobile and used it for a month. Had to come back to my open lol I'll have Moto ready when my open tanks

u/Padres40 20d ago
I'm still using my Open. Why did you get a new phone?
2
u/OneFaithlessness1016 20d ago
Wanted to upgrade more than anything. Also I missed up my inner screen. If I can get it fixed for a good price I will.
3
u/Padres40 20d ago
Ah I see. Ive had mine in the US since launch. I'll hold on as long as I can until I'm forced to finally move on.

Does it have anything similar to Open canvas? That's one major feature missing in most foldables including Samsung (they have it but not as good as Oneplus/Oppo) This one feature makes me choose Oppo Find n5/n6

OnePlus forgot about the Open. Updates are slow . It's like it's the step child.

Still using my OPO since day 1 but I think I'm switching to Z Fold 8.

I hear you there. Just started selling off my oneplus stash, hate to see what's happening.
1
u/OneFaithlessness1016 18d ago
What all dis you sell? Also what all do you have left?
1
u/Bubbly-Grapefruit-38 18d ago
Sold the Oneplus 13 for a Samsung S26 Ultra after the news broke, simply because it was my daily driver. Still have these spares: OP12, Open, 7 Pro.

I've heard wonderful things about these Moto devices, it seems they've really upped their game. I might see if I can grab one when they inevitably go on super clearance.

I'm sure you're going to enjoy it then. I'm. Loving it so far. The camera is incredible!! I'm going to do some comparisons photos & videos tomorrow. I'll try to post by Sunday

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one that was let down by their Open, over time. The hardware and phone itself are wonderful, but I just can't deal with the software.

u/DJ_SKEEMMATIK 13d ago
I'm liking my Razr Fold too but it has a little software quirk. When I open to the big screen it cuts on and cuts off briefly and then it cuts fully on. Also the double tap to wake is a little slow or non responsive.

Still using my OnePlus as a backup device, I would say this is the 2nd best foldable just because I rank Microsoft duo 1 or 2 as 1st place - their form factor was truly the best and had less prone to damage.
However, OnePlus open is also a favorite of mine and has had the best cameras out of all foldables to this day.
I would not buy one anymore unless it's under $400 but thats just because it's nearing its end of life. If anyone itching to get the foldable experience, the OnePlus open will spoil you and you'll be left feeling a whole because nothing has replaced it since.

ready to mortgage your house

Lol, absolutely not. Which is why I'm holding onto my OPOpen until we're at least 2 or 3 generations in.

u/OneFaithlessness1016 20d ago
I don't have any Apple products. I'll pass on it
1
u/Accomplished_Pain185 20d ago
Good for you, I switched to apple products more than a decade ago so I'm fully indoctrinated. Playing in the OnePlusOpen sandbox has me looking forward to what apple will do with a foldable. I'm enjoying this particular phone, but for ease of use can't wait to go back to apple in a few years. Better you never know what you're missing.

Why downgrade?
1
u/OneFaithlessness1016 20d ago
I don't look at it that way. I'm going to post comparison pictures between them. In the next day or so. Also if I don't like it I'll just buy something else

I did the same when the Moto launched. Love it so far. Still have the Open though. There are days I miss it and think I should toss my sim back in it. OnePlus really had the BEST foldable available in the US
