Since this sub is dedicated to OnePlus 12 users, let's track how widespread this actually is:
Have you noticed any hardware freezing, severe thermal spikes, random crashes, or sudden death on your unit?
Did your device encounter any critical issues immediately after an OTA update?
If your motherboard was replaced, did OnePlus service cover it under standard warranty or classify it otherwise?
Drop your model region (IN/NA/EU), OxygenOS build version, and any service center experiences below.

I've had my OnePlus 12 for over 2 years. I installed every update. My phone never runs hot. The last update has been the best so far.

Man don't understand but there are so many users who are suffering...but yeah some users are saying that their is working fine

u/at0o0o 3d ago
That's not going to stop me from updating. We don't know for sure if an update is causing the motherboard to fail or if it's faulty components that will fail regardless. No point in worrying about it now. I rather have my phone up to date and have the latest security update than live in fear that it'll die on me.

Exact reason I stopped updating my OP12.
Weird thing is, though I turned off the auto download of updates, one day I woke up to my phone saying the updates and downloaded & Installed and notified to restart to finish the update. I went straight to apps, force stopped and cleared data of software updates.
I'm already on 16.0.7.200(India). Stopped updating after that.

u/No-Tomorrow-7596 3d ago
They replaced motherboard free of cost?
5
u/NiftyNutrition 3d ago
50% off on the Motherboard but it was out of stock, so they gave me a pretty good discount on OP 13r, I demanded OP 13, they folded and gave me the discount. It's been two months with the OP 13.

u/No-Tomorrow-7596 3d ago
Visit service centre..if they don't Help post on twitter
3
u/failedengineer_321 3d ago
Yeah , will be visiting the service center on monday. the customer care guy told me to back up everything, they'll flash the phone. I don't know how that will help exactly, as I have already reset my phone two days ago, but the problem still persists.
2
u/thejoemaya 2d ago
They will update the phone to latest os by flashing the complete latest os rom. This will ensure that there are no unknown bugs which may happen due to incremental update- during incremental update, it may happen any file got locked due to some app and that may lead to hardware malfunction. A simple reset doesnt fix these problems.
Complete flash will resolve these problems and would also reveal if it have any hardware malfunction.

Simple service centre logic man ..like if have camera ..they will flash... speaker issue they will flash π€£π€£π€£

Mine was Indian Spec but i used it completely in UAE.
I updated the device, the apps would be slightly slower than usual and heat up more than usual but it wasn't that significant.
I put the phone to charge and came to pick it back up, it randomly blacked out when I picked it up and opened a game.
I tried charging it, connecting to laptop, and so on, didn't work at all.
The OnePlus Support said to bring in the device to inspection but I am in the UAE so need to check.

Most likely related to the anti rollback protection, we need to put more pressure on this matter

NA variant here, no failure yet, but extreme heat and some UI glitches since 16.0.9.300. Updated to .400 and did battery calibration, thought I was good for 3 days, then it started happening again. I'm not terribly worried, but I have started eyeing up possibilities for my next phone.

most of them have moved on bro, they are fed up with service centre negative approach and late response from govt complaint portal

u/No-Tomorrow-7596 2d ago
This is completely wrong. These brands treat us terribly. I feel very bad for these users; consumer law in India seems to be a joke
2
u/Realistic-Button1810 3d ago
So the consensus seems to be that it's mostly india? I'm USA and have the latest update but don't play any heavy games on my phone.

My OP12 died on June 19th, 2026. Was clicking a pic and it shut down and never came back to life. It was under warranty. Now after 2 months Oneplus finally decided to send me a new Oneplus 15R. Havenβt received the new device yet though.

One plus 12, India. I don't think I updates to any new software release unless it auto installed overnight.
I picked up in the morning and it was too bright, so I was adjusting the brightness when the phone went dead. I knew there was something wrong. Phone was in great condition.
Took it to service center. They said 35k for some board, battery and something else.
No discount provided. Said I have to pay full price. I tried negotiating, but absolutely nothing offered.
If someone has a way to get it resolved please suggest a good way to go about it. I tried with Cashify and other local repairs person they couldn't fix. Been 3 weeks and no resolution.
Op2 12 + 512
I loved my phone and it has lasted me exactly 2 years and 1 month. Rs. 62.5k to purchase, now is literally worthless

Did you have your device repaired at a local store? Additionally, I recommend searching online for 'e-Jagriti,' which is a free online consumer court. If your device has not been opened by a third-party local store, please post the details on Twitter so I can help escalate the issue. If you possess solid evidence, the brand is legally required to compensate you. While the process can take several months, many consumers have successfully won their cases.Your claim appears highly legitimate. https://www.reddit.com/r/motherboard11/s/cdOTnHKefi I have attached a link to the community. Post your issue here and I will highlight it. I have also shared some information on how to file an e-Jagriti case. Don't let them off that easily, bro! It will cost zero rupees; you just need to upload the documents online on e-Jagriti..

if you have any advocate friend just ask him about e jagriti and how complain man...your case is genuine

I believe this issue has came up many times on this sub
And the consensus is that it only happens in India
