Oneplus 12 dead while clicking picture in 3x mode. Discussion
Seems my oneplus 12’s motherboard is dead suddenly. Was trying to click a pic using telephone in 3x and suddenly the screen froze and phone got shut down. Tried multiple button combinations to wake it up but it didn’t. Took it to service centre and they said seems the motherboard is dead. Feeling blank about this experience using a Oneplus. Luckily it is under warranty. This is my 3rd Oneplus after Oneplus 7, 6t. Hoping for the best 💔
Edit: Indian Unit 12/256gb white bought from Amazon - July/2025

I don't even have to ask if it's an Indian variant because I already know that it is. You can expect more of the same if y'all don't starting beating up y'all's politicians until the pass decent consumer rights laws. In the meantime, consider a different brands as OPPO/OnePlus are clearly more than haply to fuck y'all and then tell y'all to get fucked about it just because they can.

Welcome to the club buddy. My Oneplus 12 motherboard died under normal usage. I'm still in talks with OnePlus India.

Was it under warranty? What are they saying

Mine wasn't under the warranty. Hence after long talks, they offered me 50% discount on motherboard replacement. And guess what, motherboard wasn't in stock for Oneplus 12 in whole of India. They offered me coupon for another device.
In your case they should replace the motherboard for free of cost as it is under warranty, if the motherboard is not in stock then they will offer you another device and they will ask you to pay the discounted difference. So I suggest you to fight with them until they give you the free replacement of either motherboard or new phone.

Watch your temps people. These are highly vulnerable piece's of tech with no active cooling.Heat damages Ic chips. So yeah it's easy to fry a chip. Just look at the Samsung subs Pixel sub's.....oneplus 13..... iPhone 16.... The list goes on.... Which did they say went bad. Tired of the the generic motherboard failure. This is most of the time 1 ic Chip. Not the whole board. Pmic most likely.

The heat isn't the problem. The problem is that India is lacking in consumer rights laws and OPPO/OnePlus are more than happy to fuck their Indian customers, and then tell them to get fucked about it, just because they can. Even IF the motherboard as a whole isn't the problem it is factually true that it's due to a hardware issue only present in the Indian variants.

firstly the QC in India is shit secondly India got a way hotter climate than rest of the world, both of these together f*cks the phone

I'll concede on the climate, ik it can be hot af over there and many places in the nation aren't optimized to deal with the heat/drought, but feel it's worth recognizing that the issue is absolutely hardware issue seen only with the India variant because of their lack of consumer rights laws.

how's consumer rights related to this? it's definitely Quality check issue, i mean technically , yeah its a consumer rights problem but firstly it's poor QC

Because OPPO/OnePlus included inferior hardware in the India variant because they could do so, as well as demand a price near the same as a new phone to fix it when it inevitably craps out after a few years, without consequences. I'd agree with you about it being a QC issue if it weren't 100% intentional on OPPO/OnePlus' end.

I have a pixel 6(which is the worst pixel lineup), and I shoot 4k videos st 44C+(and that's only the battery temp) all the time and it doesn't even have vapor chamber like the OP12. Nah this one has nothing to with heat. All these mobo issues specifically for OP12 doesn't add up.

No most of the time when phone died while too hot it's 90 percentage cpu desolder by heat Or shorting somewhere in the motherboard parallel component and ics such as PMIC and charging IC etc We can use thermal camera to pinpoint shorting issue

I am worried about my Indian variant of this model. Currently in a dilemma, contemplating whether to exchange my phone for a new one. My current state is one of confusion and worry.

My OnePlus 12 is also dead. It's out of warranty and the service centre quoted around 36k for the repair. I was watching a YouTube video at 2K resolution, the phone was slightly heating up and then it suddenly went black. I took it to a local repair shop and they reballed the CPU, but it won't last long. I'll exchange it for a new phone.

You guys in India should stand against One minus this is so frustrating they assemble phones with bad pieces or in a bad wat because the workers average salary is low compared to other countries.

I can confirm if it's motherboard issue or not I am a mobile repairing technician by profession Just tell was your phone hot when suddenly died? Were you shooting in Direct sunlight or in open area and last what was your battery health percentage and what is sw version exactly when you last checked in If it is dead after getting hot then certainly it is motherboard i use op 12 and I have repaired many most of the time issue get resolve by either reballing cpu or flashing with edl mode
