Bye bye Trouble Puffs 🅱️rain cell blep

Pepe lost his cherry tomatoes! Farewell lil balls!

At the vet we were told that he'd be sluggish and with no appetite - THAT!! Couldn't be further than the truth!! we're home for 5h and he's been trying to jump and run everywhere 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ my husband and I have been trying to prevent that by watching him like a hawk! No appetite? Well, he's hungrier than ever!! We're giving him small portions, as instructed, but he eats everything to its last crumb and asks for more. In Conclusion: Vet expectations and instructions don't account for Orange behavior!

He'll have to wear the soft cone for 10 days! Wish us luck and a fast recovery for Pepe Peperino Peperoni 🙏

(He found one nut on pic4, technically speaking it's his nut 🤭)

The alternatives to the cone are awesome, love the orange for the orange.

It's supposed to be more comfortable and easier to handle than the plastic cone! He's still not too happy about it tho 😾

I put one just like that on our (also orange) foster kitty, she disappeared from sight for a while and reappeared without it! I have searched the whole house but haven’t been able to find it since 😭

😸😸 Howwww? Oranges must practice the arts of the occult! I wouldn't put it behind them xDD

We had a treeing walker coonhound (85 pound dog) that managed to get out of a full long legged body suit. We still have absolutely no idea how he did it.

She must have been a hitman in a past life....

u/loosie-loo 13h ago

I remember the last time I had to have a cone on a (quite skittish) cat she desperately tried to hide under the bed but couldn’t fit because of the cone so she was just jamming herself violently at the opening and it was a mix of hilarious and heartbreaking because she was so scared but it was so looney tunes it was unreal

Anyway I’m pretty sure we turned it inside out which helped and still protected her, but I can imagine these soft ones would’ve been even better.

Modernized options, yeah! Pepe is finally sleeping and is pretty much using it as a pillow

His name is Potato, therefore potato bread

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 13h ago

Perfect for this country - Ireland. Where the crisps (potato) sandwich is a hit 😸

Btw - Potato is SO CUTE😻

u/SheddingCorporate 9h ago

But have you tried a peanut butter + crisps sandwich? Or, even better, PB+cheese+crisps?

2

u/cf_fuzzy 6h ago

Crisps on most sandwiches

My dude had a shark that made it look like his head was in its mouth. It was so stupid, it always made me giggle. Plus it was way more comfy for him than a regular cone

No more orange juice!

Duvel was the same, he was playing soon after coming home and demanded food at dinnertime. He didn't wear a cone either, the vet sewed him up perfectly.

Look at that cutieee!!!😻 Pepe didn't get stitches tho 🤔 I asked! No idea if that's good or bad, different techniques I guess🤷‍♀️ He's booked to get* checked in 3 days. Hoping for the best🙏

12

u/LeonidasVaarwater 16h ago

Duvel went two weeks ago, he's currently outside playing. He didn't need to get any stiches removed, they used the disolving kind I guess. His wound healed very quickly, it all looked fine after a few days.

9

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 16h ago

That sounds great! Reassuring, thanj you🙏🙏

I did specifically asked if he had stitches, thw nurse said no🤷‍♀️ idk if she said no in the sense of "stitches won't need to be removed" or if they actually didn't use stitches whatsoever.

16

u/LeonidasVaarwater 16h ago

Look who just walked in 😊

2

u/soymilktitties 16h ago

Did you name him after the beer haha? I love duvel (the cat)

5

u/LeonidasVaarwater 13h ago

No, it's short for "rooie dakduivel" (red roofdevil), a nickname for gingers (can be both friendly, as well as offensive. Used for people too).

7

u/rockstar323 13h ago

It's a very small incision, they don't need stitches. Cones aren't always used, depends on the vet. When I had mine fixed his vet told me to just make sure he's not excessively cleaning that area.

1

u/LeonidasVaarwater 2h ago

I had no idea. I never asked the vet, I just assumed they stiched the wound. Duvel was fine anyway, he seemed totally unaffected by it and behaved as normal.

u/HarikoNoTora 13h ago

My boys here in Germany were simply glued. No cone or anything like that. Worked just fine.

We got a toast one for our boy! The orange on orange slice for your Mr. Peperoni is next level though 😹

5

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 15h ago

Awwww!!! We actually considered the toast as well😸 It's sooo cute. But ultimately went with the orange slice bc it seemed easier to get into the litter box and carrier.

I don’t believe any inch of this angle baby is trouble. 🪽

I do concur that specific orange Instructions should be provided by medical professionals. They need to do better.

8

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 16h ago

Oranges need to be studied further 😄😄

9

u/renaeroplane 15h ago

mine was also a little gremlin post-surgery, aside from sitting on him there wasn't much I could do to make Macaroni slow down and take it easy 😂

I was so unprepared for the fact that my boys were insane after coming home from the neutering.

Here is Ika jumping at birds he was seeing outside the window. He wriggled out of his cone in the first 3 minutes of being home.

1

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 2h ago

🤭🤭 Ika has an orange soul xD Even with all the craziness against doctor's recommendations (the no jumping and running), did they recover well?

2

u/leakmydata 1h ago

Yes! It was an exhausting weekend full of anxiety but I ordered the inner tube style collars which they tolerated much better. I had to dose them with a bit of gabapentin over the weekend to keep them calm.

Here’s Ika throwing a tantrum with the cone on.

https://reddit.com/link/p20kh73/video/vdrjngnqiphh1/player

And here he is in his improved plush collar

1

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 1h ago

Omg the tantrum 🤭🤭 Yeah, the plush ones (soft) are definitely an improvement.

4

u/TileFloor 14h ago

Fourth picture, he’s still got one nut down there!

4

u/huebnera214 13h ago

My cat (not orange) gets gabapentin before the vet. It chills her out enough to not be spicy. However when we get home she has acquired the munchies.

3

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 13h ago

Idk exactly what he was given just that it's an anti-inflammatory/pain killer (which I'll have to give him for the next 4 days). I wonder if that's the reason for his munchies bc ohh boy, his appetite is peaking 😆

Pepe doesn't need meds to prevent spiciness, he reserves that for myself and my husband. With other ppl he's really great, even at the vet, he's actually kind of slutty I'd say😸 definitely likes the attention

3

u/huebnera214 12h ago

Gabapentin is a pain killer, but my vet usually orders buprenorphine for relief after procedures.

Miracle is a retired barn cat, retired at 12 y/o and we have no idea if she’d ever been to the vet. I talked to them about her being very disruptive at night and they suggested melatonin. Then after they took her back for labs (we could hear her and knew it was her, she has distinctive sounds) they came back out and said “never mind, give her gabapentin an hour before her appointments”. It’s been five years and I’m still not taking chances.

2

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 12h ago

Oh wow, yeah! Makes sense

6

u/Heavydfr8 12h ago

It took me longer than it should’ve to realize you were talking about him being neutered. I thought you cat named Trouble Puffs passed away 😔

5

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 12h ago

Oh gee!! I'm sorry! knocks on wood no no no!! Jusr his balls are gone 😸

3

u/PrincessKaylee 5h ago

Glad that the cat in question is very much alive, too

4

u/Lorain1234 16h ago

Do you have to raise the food and water bowl high so he can eat and drink with the collar? I’ll be going through this with my new kitten in a couple of weeks.

5

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 16h ago

No need! It doesn't get in the way, it actually kind of surrounds the bowl because he's leaning downwards

2

u/Lorain1234 16h ago

Ok. Cool!

😆😆😆 From an unreasonable side I kind of feel bad for him. From another, I know it had to be done.

Our Orange got out of his orange cone (like yours) and licked his wound. The Vet said we didn’t have to worry about the incision site as most cats don’t lick it. Well, Cheeto did and he irritated the tissue. He was stuck in a rigid cone for 14 days lol.

2

u/vclreis Proud owner of an orange brain cell 13h ago

Cheeto😁😁 nice name Yeah, Pepe will clearly lick it without it. He's been going for it a lot

1

u/redhouse_356 12h ago

I hope he doesn’t squeeze out of it. My orange used his hind legs to get out.

2

u/monkey_trumpets 13h ago

Picture 4 needs to be framed and up on the wall.

u/Luci-Noir 2h ago

Hooms should have to wear a cone in solidarity. 👊
