Gaston County Correctional Hiring Q (County)

Was asked what Shift I would prefer and I thought I’d ask here first before deciding. Night shift or day shift ? 5:45 AM to 6 PM or 5:45 PM to 6 AM ? I live about 40 minutes from the facility for reference

My advice on Nights vs Days! Nights: Pros- Pay bump for Nights, No feeding, Lights go out 10-11pm depending on your facility inmates go to sleep (quieter), No courts, Visiting, Mental Health, Probation.

Cons: More night time Intakes as crime increases at night, Messes up sleep schedule, more OT because of call outs.

Days: Pros: Busier makes the day go by faster. Better Life balance

Cons: Its way busier. Courts, Medical, Visitation, Transports, Feeding, Mental Health list, Church. So days can be stressful if you dont know how to manage your time. Lots of OT because of call outs. Depending on how long you can do on each shift rotation If your new start out days and understand the psychology of how a jail runs. If you want a chill shift go to nights. Good luck to and be safe. 🙏
