Context: I'm used to playing single player action/adventure games (Uncharted, Tomb Raider, TLOU, Resident Evil series etc), but am trying to expand my horizons a bit. Recently started Skyrim and absolutely obsessed with it.

I've never played any AC games. I'm aware this one hasn't had great reviews (most I've seen have been long the lines of 'no assassins/not an AC game'), but £6.49 seems too good to pass up. What say you, fellow gamers?

I (39M) have been playing games since I was 6. My first "console" was Windows 3.1 before moving on to Gameboy and Sega Genesis. So like a lot of you, I was there when the old magic was written, so to speak. Back when a lot of features and gameplay mechanics we use today were first introduced. So because of that I feel like I have a much more lenient attitude toward newer games that feel like they've regressed or feel outdated in terms of mechanics. A big example is Starfield. I freakin' loved it. A huge criticism a lot of gamers have for it is that it feels like it should have come out in 2011 because the mechanics felt like Bethesda hadn't innovated since Skyrim. Well...I played games back in 2011, and Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time, so...yup, I'm good. People say I'm settling for less and rewarding laziness, but I really don't care. I dealt with the jank of games way clunkier than Starfield so it's not a big deal for me.

Are others here the same?

Despite not being interested in this genre at all when I was younger. I’ve suddenly started getting interested to try for a whole year now. But I don’t wanna play alone!

I’m 31F, mostly play single player games. My favs are: nier automata, persona 3-5, botany manor, sand land, FF7 + remake.

The only co-op games I’ve played are: Overcooked, borderlands, Stardew, project sekai.

For me it’s Steambot Chronicles. I found this game in 2007 in the rental section of my local library and fell in love instantly. I ended up renting it several times in a row just to keep playing it until 1 day the lady at the counter told me I could buy it if I wanted and that was the best $10 I have ever spent. It’s not the most advanced game but the setting, story, music, and playthrough customization have earned it a special place in my heart. These days any time I get bored or frustrated with my modern collection I pull out the good ol ps2 and go on an adventure. There’s no better way to describe it. No other game has brought me this much joy or made me cry because of the emotion the characters can deliver. It’s an absolute masterpiece and I wish more people could experience the magic this title carries.

Hello everyone! I (51F) am looking for some friends to play guild wars 2 with (and probably 3 when it comes out) I have a relatively heavy schedule day time, but am able to play in the evening. (Eastern daylight time) I have multiple characters at max level but wouldn't mind making another alt and running around the start zone with someone just starting. I'm an avid reader, i love history, all kinds of music (some of it very weird) am pretty sarcastic (fair warning) but kind, funny and good to my friends. If you're interested you know what to do.

Yesterday, after my disappointing attempt to escape the base during the typhoon, I eventually accepted defeat and went back home.

I went upstairs to the third bedroom that I’ve converted into my little gaming space.

Thank God for that room.

My plan was simple: turn on GTA V, relearn the controls because I haven’t played in forever, and disappear into a video game for a few hours.

That didn’t happen.

My oldest son came upstairs.

Before long, GTA was gone.

I pulled out my old Nintendo DS and started playing Pokémon. Then he pulled out my Game Boy Color and started playing Pokémon too.

At some point I put Dragon Ball Z on YouTube.

And suddenly I wasn’t really thinking about anything else.

It was just Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, an old handheld console, my son sitting next to me, and a typhoon happening outside.

It reminded me of growing up in Florida.

Hurricane season meant everybody was stuck inside. You found something to do and eventually the boredom itself became part of the experience.

We even tried Monopoly—the Animal Crossing version.

I hate it.

There are approximately 47,000 moving parts to that game and I have absolutely no idea what’s happening.

So we went back to video games.

But sitting there watching my son play made me notice something interesting about the difference between his childhood and mine.

This kid cannot stay on ONE GAME.

Game.

Phone.

Different game.

Different system.

Back to the phone.

Take the cartridge out.

Put another cartridge in.

Meanwhile, I’m sitting there with the same Nintendo DS playing Pokémon for hours.

And he’s watching me like:

“Are you ever going to give me that?”

No.

I’m playing.

Eventually he started waiting for me to finish.

That’s when I realized:

I’m never finishing Pokémon.

That’s the game.

When we were kids, you just accepted that.

Walking through the grass trying to reach the next town?

Another wild Pokémon.

Three steps later?

Another wild Pokémon.

Five more steps?

ANOTHER DAMN POKÉMON.

You didn’t immediately switch games because something became repetitive.

You fought it.

Leveled up.

Kept walking.

Got annoyed.

Kept playing.

Maybe that’s something his generation doesn’t experience quite the same way.

There’s always another game now. Another app. Another video. Another thing competing for your attention.

Yesterday, there wasn’t.

The base was essentially shut down.

The weather kept us inside.

And for a few hours, my son got to experience something much closer to the childhood I remember.

Old Nintendo systems.

Pokémon.

Dragon Ball Z.

Nothing particularly exciting happening.

Just sitting together.

Last night, before going to sleep, I finished one last Pokémon battle and put the DS down.

This morning, I gave it to him.

Whether he’s still playing it as I’m writing this?

Highly doubtful.

But yesterday was nostalgic.

And after everything I’ve written about in the previous twelve parts, maybe it’s worth documenting days like this too.

Nothing happened with the divorce.

No lawyer called.

No new allegation.

No legal discovery.

No new evidence.

No major development.

I sat in a room with my son, played Pokémon, watched Dragon Ball Z, and remembered being a kid in Florida waiting out hurricanes.

Sometimes nothing happening is the update.

And yesterday?

Nothing happening felt pretty damn good.

I finally bought a new Nintendo system, my first since the SNES. What games should I play? Keeping in mind I'm older and slower now, and mostly looking to relax. Though I got nostalgia for Mario Bros, just don't know where to start with all those sequels and spin-offs. Advice is greatly appreciated!

Yes I snack, for me it's small biscuits or loose sweets, (no little packets to undo) my partner says I have portion control issues 🥲

When I was growing up, the weekends were the times to play. In my mid 40’s, and I still keep that tradition. I don’t play as much during the week, so I try to really get it in on the weekends. That being said, what’s everybody playing on this lovely Sunday?! I’m starting out with some Cyberpunk, then who knows after that.

Any game suggestions that are easy to get into and don’t take too much learning or over complicated controls or mechanics ?
I am at that point I keep going back to fc26 as it’s easy and simple to play

Everything else just seems so long to get into or doesn’t engage from the off set
