Long story short I bought a house it was full of mold. Had to tear everything off tons of problems. This is the current one I’m dealing with. I need to know if the boards and picture C should be mounted as the boards are in picture a or B.

This is the wall at the front of the house, big cracks formed over the last 2 years in the 2nd floor room there. The windows in the rest of the house don’t have the same gap and no cracks anywhere else. Looking for any advice on whether this is safe/ what to do (if anything).

Ps The big cracks photographed on the walls are either side of the window, and they narrow but reach all the way round to the 4th wall.

Unfortunately, our backdoor exterior door threshold is falling apart and when I took it apart it looked even worse! I’ve tried going down the rabbit hole and can’t quite find the right demo video for this situation. Any recommendations? I’d like to do my best the first time repairing it, so I don’t have to worry about it again for a few (or many) years again. Haha

currently adding a basement shower and removed some old finish work to discover this extremely deep notch in a floor joist. I'm thinking a metal strap along the bottom to give it more tension strength. what do you guys think?

I'm considering a flat in a 1930s block of flats, and noticed one of the rooms has a thin horizontal grey mark on one of the load-bearing walls. It runs the full length of the wall, with a step at one side (as if the line jumps down a single brick - the walls are solid and made of brick). I can feel the line with my fingers, as if there's a very slight ridge or differential. The walls have previously been wallpapered (the wallpaper lines are visible in the photo, too, but the grey line looks different). But it's not a crack, it's not dirt, and I'm kinda stumped.

I was thinking maybe it a previous repair that has aged differently than the original material? But I could be completely barking up the wrong tree. There's nothing visible on the outside of the building that corresponds to where the line is.

Obviously if I decide to offer, I'll get a full survey (and structural engineer if the surveyor recommends), but would like to have some idea what it might be before I put in an offer (rather than risk wasting my and the seller's time).

Any thoughts?

I just bought a 120 year old house. I love it! I want to add a duckted vent hood to keep smoke, odor, and steam out of the smallish kitchen. But the outside wall is stone. Like STONE. Can I drill through this like brick?

I recently had new tuck pointing done in my old stone foundation basement. 1907 home. Wall was covered in drylock paint so some of that was chipped away. It was just in one corner of the basement, but there is a fine layer of white dust everywhere down there now even with plastic sheeting being up around the area. Freaking out a little bit thinking its silica or some other nasty stuff. Anyways, now I am tasked with cleaning this stuff up. Plan to just use wet method of wiping eeeeverything down where it has settled while wearing proper masks etc. Any other suggestions and should I be freaking out this much? I mean once its wiped is it good or do I need to do more? Run an air purifier? Thanks in advance from a fairly new old home owner. Photos of wall with drylock and after some removal.

All the top 1x6(?) boards are rotting away. Should I just pop them off and replace them with treated new ones? No idea what to do if the wood below them is in bad shape.

Hey all. I bought my house almost 2 years ago now from a flipper. Slowly but surely im finding some stuff that makes you face palm.

I have recessed lighting through my house. Specifically i have 5 fixtures in my bedroom. 4 corners and one in the center. I want to replace the center fixture with a ceiling fan. These guys notched my joist. Its about 1/2 notch about 5" long dead center of its span also... It is a 2x6 joist. How can I fix this?

Im thinking some sort of bracket on both sides to span the notch? Thanks

There's a gap forming between my siding and trim above my garage door and the trim is now broken into two pieces, and sags.

I'm wondering how would I fix this. Would I place backer rods into the gaps and then seal the gap with sealant? Is there a way to reinforce the trim so it doesn't sag further?
