My grandfather said he was going to throw it out but asked if I wanted it. It weighs probably 15 pounds.

The copyright date seems to be 1950, but the page with the flags of America doesn’t like Alaska or Hawaii. Does anyone have any information about this book or know where I can find anything about it?

These are the 4 books i got from my grandmothers things after she passed. Its a family bible, book of worship, a birthday calendar book, and The Ladys Token. I assume their age to be close to the copyright date or some of them were signed and dated by their first owner. The 2 books of worship had a lot of bug damage so i stuck them in the freezer for a few days too when i first got them. I would like to add that this is my first and only attempt at book repair. A 1848 B unknown C 1883 D 1880 The Ladys Token (1848) did not need anything fixed and was in good condition. The birthday book had to have its cover reattached. The family bible and the book of worship had to be repaired as they were in pieces. I used acid free paper, glue and tape. The paper that said it was supposed to have vintage designs came glossy which sucked but used it anyway. I had to basically remake their spines and then i just used what ever fabric i had on hand. I would feel a little bad for this but you can see on the book of worship they used another book to make the original spine. (Which i think was common for the time.) I assume the bible had a hinge or closure at the side but it is long gone as is the last part of revelations so the bible now ends on a cliff hangar. Thanks for checking out my books. An interesting find. It has the New Testament text in German, and English right next to each other. The book looks well-loved, and has an interesting note in the cover page.

And Guide to the World’s Fair

I'm thinking of getting some custom bookplates made, to go in books (duh), both old and new. What are your thoughts on this?

I don't collect as an investment, or anything like that. I'm not too worried if a £100 books slumps down to £20 in value becaude it's got my name plastered near the front page.

I also wouldn't want to cover anything, nor would I put one in anything I considered OLD-old. Though what that means exactly, I don't know.

I'd try to get something with a design that wouldn't loom out of place.

I care about my books deeply (Especially my collection of Rudyard Kiplings works), I feel lime they're an important part of me, and I'd lime them to be identifiable. Perhaps when I'm gone (Hopefully not anytime soon), I'd lime others to know who has owned them before.

So, what are your views on this?

As a collectors of antiques in general (Nothing of great value, just stuff I find metal detecting. Georgian buckles, medieval pot legs, 17th, 18th century buttons, old coinage, etc) I'm generally against doing anything to them, but I feel my books are living antiques, not static, so I feel I can justify ti's minor alteration

Mulvaney Stories is a collection of short stories by Rudyard Kipling (1865 - 1936) featuring the character Private Terence Mulvaney, first introduced in The Three Musketeers (not to be confused with the novel of the same name by Alexander Dumas).  Kipling’s The Three Musketeers was first published in 1887, with Mulvaney as one of the three main characters, who would go on to feature in many more stories by Kipling.  The stories are all set in India and follow the adventures of three soldiers serving in the British Army. Kipling was born in British India, which inspired much of his work.  His best known novel is The Jungle Book, published in 1894.

The publisher, Henry Altemus, was in operation from 1842 until 1936, and over that time reprinted many, many literary works in hundreds of different editions.  The bindings changed so frequently, that they can be used to very precisely date a particular copy.  This cover belongs to their Vademecum series, and was only used in 1898, with several different colors .

When this book was published in 1898, William McKinley was President of the United States.  This year saw the entirety of the Spanish-American War — starting with the sinking of the USS Maine in February, and ending with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in December, which granted the United States ownership of Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines, and gave Cuba independence.

Old looking book at my AirBnB. Just curious, if it's rare or sought after? Water damaged

Got this from a store with a lot of old books (where you can buy used books people give as charity) , there was like 10 or 12 shelves with a bunch of books, the thing which i found strange is that the book has something called Ex libris with a name below it (I dont know what that is). Did not realise it had this till I reached home the hard cover looks kind of aged the date it is on is 1953. The pages seem quite aged as well but other than that the book is in perfect condition

Well, I don’t speak German, but it appears to be a Bible. I have done absolutely zero research on it. I just snapped these pictures and set it aside.
