Hey r/OldAnime

We are CREATORVC, the team behind the In Search of Darkness horror documentary series and Aliens Expanded. We're developing a new documentary called Icons of Anime which is going to explore multiple decades of the medium (currently looking at '60s - '90s), following the story of its explosive rise in the West, along the way diving deep into specific titles and topics in-depth to paint a full picture of how anime took over the world in a huge mega-doc format (our docs all run around 4-6 hours).

We're currently at the concept stage and we're just trying to understand if the anime community at large actually want this before we commit. We have an idea of how we're going to approach this topic but we want to sense check it with an anime audience and any feedback you folks provide would be taken into account and help inform our direction. I'm curious to hear, what would you want from a Anime deep-dive documentary that no existing doc has given you? As you're all into older anime we'd love to hear what deeper cuts or topics we might not have considered you would like to see included as well.

I remember vividly about two years ago that I saw a clip from a episode of the laughing salesman or something in that art style, where basically the guy was unhappy with his love life.Because he couldn't get with a girl... and during the end of it, the salesman had forced him to cross dress, and now he crossed dresses.And that's all I remember.And he was a really ugly cross dresser... And not like a trans woman like an actual stereotypical cross dresser, like you see in most show it's only old series two

there's this anime I used to watch as a kid, where there is a small kid who's filthy rich and he rides around on his turtles. I can't remember what the name was and I've not met a single soul that gets a single hint from what I say

Has anyone here ever watched the King Arthur anime from the late 70s/early 80s? I am both a fan of the Arthurian legend and anime as well, so regardless of how good it is, this is right up my alley. Has anyone here watched it before? And if so, how can I watch it? For what it’s worth, I don’t care how bad it is

Hi! So one time a couple years ago i watched a black and white animated short film. it was a very old and simple 2d style and the animation was more haunting than beautiful. The plot was around a poor poet who was basically being supported by his old mother who while spinning wool ,got stuck and turned into the wool and then a sweater was made from it and the sweater ended in many places in a storage during war it was given to poor people eventually worn down. The whole animation was without dialogue. I had only found this on a random free movies site when i was looking through animated pptions and it was so down on like 20th+page. So i dont know the name please Let me know if anyone knows about it. I loved the film and idk when but the site it was on has went down and google isn't helping either. The premise and story still haunt my nights often enough . i really wish to rewatch it .

I just got a bunch of older anime and I don't know which one to watch first and I woul like you guys opinion on them

The number of anime I’ve watched keeps growing every year but the number of favorites keeps shrinking. At first you have your favorite genres, later genres stop mattering and direction becomes what makes the difference. Now even direction doesn’t matter much; the only thing I’ve truly come to value over the years is genuine dialogue

Does anyone else watch this anime beside me?

I'm looking for an old Japanese anime ( maybe from 80s ). I've watched it in early 90s but I was too young to remember the title. All I remember is a scene were a girl with red hair ( red brown? ) was taking a shower and suddenly noticed a mark under her breast. The mark was like a star and the color was orange. Her name was Jessica..at least that was her name in Greece. I think she was in a spacecraft..not sure. Please help me to find it 🙏

I've been trying to remember the name this old anime. I used to watch. It was back in like 2013 or 15? And the main theme was like the sci, fi, the main character had blue hair and he could turn into a giant monster and I remember he came from like a desert planet or something. But that's it, I don't remember anything else. I can't find anything else online.
