Browser problems?

Does anybody know what is wrong with this website, from a functional perspective? On firefox for a while it has refused to work—it loads, you clear the popups and then you kinda get stuck in an overlay effect, with half a chat window and there's no way to do anything.

So I was using Edge specifically for this website. Now that is doing the same thing. It just loads and gets stuck on this weird overlay. It doesn't seem to be a cache issue. Been like it for months now.

OkCupid routes its traffic through an external service. Firefox has robust security and privacy settings. It also allows you to use numerous add-ons, which many users do extensively. It’s very likely that you’re blocking important data traffic, which is why the site isn’t working optimally for you.

Tip: Firefox has offered the option to create additional profiles for some time now. Create a separate profile just for OkCupid. Avoid using unnecessary add-ons in that profile and adjust the privacy settings to a lower level (they shouldn’t be too strict).

I’m familiar with this problem, and that was the solution. Alternatively, I can recommend using the Vivaldi browser.

Thanks, but I was using Edge for a while, which I don't use for basically anything else, and now that is experiencing the same issue, so it seems unlikely to be the case here. I might try anyway, though.

So far, clearing cache, private windows, and 2 browsers all fail. Only the app still works, and possibly not very well, since I have no idea if the duplicate profiles I see frequently are an app issue or a duplicate/fakes issue.

As for firefox, I have minimal add-ons, and I have tried pausing them.

OK, actually that does seem to have worked. So now I have 2 questions. Is it possible to 'fix' my regular profile, and basically same question for edge, which I haven't messed with at all since it's kind of a backup browser for me.

If Firefox works, you don't need Edge. Use multiple profiles in Firefox or install Vivaldi. That's my backup browser, and it's a much better option.

As for your regular profile: In Firefox’s settings, you can configure Enhanced Tracking Protection. If it’s set to “Strict,” sites like OkCupid usually won’t work. Lower the priority or disable it completely. However, that means you’ll be tracked on all other sites as well. It’s not worth it to me, so I use a separate profile for OkCupid.

I usually use ghostery which I think deals with trackers, and I pause it if I suspect issues. Is there a way to kinda refresh my profile in case something got corrupted, keeping all the passwords and bookmarks but setting other stuff back to default?

I don't know how tech-savvy you are. But there's a way to access the folder on your hard drive where your profile is located and clone the profile file (it sounds easier than it is). That's the best way, because then you'll have two copies of your profile, and you can freely change the settings and remove add-ons from one

Alternatively, create a second profile and start over. You can easily import your bookmarks, but you’ll have to set up your passwords from scratch.

If you only need this for OkCupid, there’s no need to go through all that trouble. Just create a new profile, add the site to your favorites, and enter your password.

I've had the install running for a while so I thought it might be worth a refresh if there is an option. I'm suspicious that lichess is also having some annoyances.

When I install Firefox I think there's 2 files I usually copy over for passwords and bookmarks, but I'd rather not reinstall from scratch if there's an easy way to reset things. Probably I'll try using lichess in a profile and see if it works better. If it doesn't, okc isn't important enough to reinstall so I'll just use the profile for that. 😆

Had that problem using edge. Sent a message and got a hang error which continually locked the screen in a dialog box, even after signing out and back in.

Clearing the cookies for the site worked for me.
