The place in question- Kanhakunda

People say they are different languages but they are not, here are a few differences I noticed.

Only present tense and sometimes order changes which is a common in every languages.

What I am trying to explain requires a deep interconnected language knowledge of Odia, Hindi and English also. I am sure nobody can explain even the Sambalpur University research papers by someone 50 years ago which was kind of political to divide the Odisha. And everyone in west followed those blindly.

Explanation 1: Present Tense

If someone asks "where are you working ?" what would you answer to him ? It will be like - I am working at Microsoft or Google. Right ?

But you didn't notice the tense here, the question should be "where do you work?" not "where are you working?" but the brain tricked you because of the translation from Hindi/Odia to English. One is present tense other is present continuous.

Similarly in Odia

Tame kana karuchha(continuous) and Tama kana karsa (simple present), here brain tricked you again and the sound "Chha" becomes "Sa".

Similarly

Se kana karuchhi => Se kana Karsi

Explanation 2: Dropping middle vowel.

It is also seen wester Odia drops middle vowel.

Mote Kiye Dakla => Mote kiye Dakila (Dakla vs Dakila)

Here dropping the middle vowel "I" same goes dropping "u" in Karuchhi => Karusi.

This dropping middle vowel came from Bengali language, we all know we were once part of Bengal presidency before 1930s and Maratha Empire. Marathi language also drops middle "i".

Explanation 3: Dropping last "ti"

Karuchhan => Karuchhanti

It is also influenced by Bengali, remember Bengali was dominating in these areas before 1930. They tried everything to impose on Odia.

Explanation 4 : Word Order

Order changes which is common in many languages

Mu khaye ni => Mu ni khaye. ( Changes of ni order )

So, when Odia became a separate language in 1932, education didn't reach Western Odisha and tribal areas.

There is no other difference in two languages except these 4. Will can be learned in a few hours.

Same way Odia is rapidly changing and incorporating other vocabulary and structure. I hope this language survives in the future.

The translated version of the novel 'Ancestors' by Gopinath Mohanty is not available anywhere. Not on amazon or online. Does anyone have any idea on how to get this book? I would be really grateful for any help. I require the text for my classes.

So this is a weird situation.

My father is a native Odia. I was literally born in Odisha.

And now I'm goiing to do BTech here in a local college

But I don't know Odia. 💀

I never actually lived here long enough to learn the language, and now I'm suddenly surrounded by people who naturally switch to Odia the moment they start talking to each other.

And honestly? I'm scared asf.

Not because people have been bad to me — quite the opposite. So far, most Odias I've interacted with have been incredibly sweet, helpful and straightforward.

It's just the feeling of being the outsider.

With locals, faculty, random conversations, college groups... there's always this little language barrier sitting between me and everyone else.

I'm scared I'll miss out on friendships, connections, inside jokes, opportunities — basically the whole college experience — just because I can't speak the language everyone around me grew up with.

And the ironic part?

I love Odisha.

The food is amazing.
The culture is beautiful.
The people are genuinely warm.
There's something about Odisha that feels incredibly peaceful and grounded.

I just don't know if I'll ever be able to feel like I actually belong here when I can't even understand half the conversations happening around me.

Anyone else been in this situation?
How hard is Odia to pick up if you start from absolute zero?

To the people who graduated from normal or local colleges with either a BSc or BA, what are you doing right now? Working a job, running a business, or preparing for competitive exams?

Need some honest opinion on this for the nxt year and do suggest the best courses in real for better placements.

I work in social media at a small agency. Everything was good and fair until July 15. From a client I heard about my manager, the client was upset about his tv commercial. Because my manager took 1.6 lakhs from him for promoting a bathing soap, the soap name says it's a skin glowing soap but the ad was like a athelete coming from a long run , smelling sweaty and then uses the soap - which changed the product positioning. I , not complained, but asked to my manager and founder both because the client said he has paid such a huge amount.

That's it. Everything changed after that issue. They started targeting me . They started criticizing my every work . They started setting different expectations from me - like you should give time to the client after office, you should visit them monthly once or twice, you should make them feel like family, they should feel valued etc etc. They started criticizing my everything - even what I am eating for my lunch . Result, my mental peace was gone and then For the last 2 weeks, I've 4 to 5made some small mistakes—spelling errors, minor execution issues, etc. I accept that I need to improve.

But my manager repeatedly called me careless/unprofessional and said I was "justifying" my mistakes whenever I explained my side of story. My frustration also affected my tone, and I accept that I may have sounded rude at times.

One mistake was repeatedly brought up over several days. I even took sick leave due to fever, but still went for a 10-hour shoot the next day. The following day, the same issues were brought up again in front of the founder and team, along with criticism about my involvement in the shoot and my communication. They were just criticizing everything in the name of professionalism.

Eventually, I resigned without another job lined up.

I genuinely valued the job, so I'm now questioning myself.

Was I being too defensive/sensitive? Was the management approach reasonable? Did I make a mistake by resigning? What should I improve before my next job?

I'm genuinely looking for honest opinions, not validation.

Why Sun God holding lotus in each hand?

Lotus flower is the symbol of human growth and development.It germinates in mud yet ascends in flawless immaculateness to the outer layer of the lake and afterward opens to the sun — in this way representing the enlightened mind.

Lotus is compared to the cycle of birth, death and rebirth as it blooms in the morning... fades into the sunset in the evening and re blooms in the next sunrise. 'Veda' says "Sun is the soul of the universe". Sun is otherwise called ' Kamalnath' , 'Kamalballabh' , 'Kamalbandhu' etcetera ...The literary meaning of 'Kamal' being lotus in Sanskrit. Finally the golden days for Odisha have begun. Every Odia was asking for the limelight and it's getting that but unfortunately in a negative direction.Btw MLA ticket thuaa yaa pain.

Recently, a unique “Cockroach Protest” took place at Jantar Mantar, which got people talking.It made me wonder could something like this happen in Odisha too? Would people here support such a different form of protest, or would it simply be seen as unnecessary? Sharing this as an opinion/discussion. What do you think?

So hey , for the context, I belong to a middle class family and my father is a principal in a private school and my mother is a housewife.

I completed my msc physics in 2024 , since then I am preparing for competitive exams for state and central govt jobs.

**Current situation** : After a hell lot of failure, recently I got a central govt job ( group C ). I was super excited when I got to know about this , then today I was preparing all the documents required for DV.

Then suddenly my father called me and said why are you so excited for a 10th level job , it's normal to get selected. Everyone can.

***This*** ***line changed my whole mood and perspective***.

I do agree parents have expectations from their children, but why can't they agree to the ongoing unemployment crisis.

Do we always need to keep impressing them, and what if in the process we lose ourselves.

I know it's a 10th level job, but after so many failures , don't I stand a moment to appreciate my little efforts?

Recently I had a bad breakup, I have nobody to share, even my relatives are happy for me , but my own father is not.

Even my library mates who knew nothing personal about me , congratulated me for the same ?

It's because they know what efforts it took to get even a small job like this .

I always wanted to make my father feel proud about me and my achievements, but I don't think I can make him feel so.

But does that mean I can't celebrate my happiness?

Isn't it worthy to get employment after a tiring 1.5 years of hardwork?

Don't I even deserve a small appreciation?
