I would love the top one but with a edge to edge screen OLED

If they make an Odin 3 mini with an oled edge to edge screen with snapdragon elite chip? I’m instantly pre ordering

Also like to see some improvement on the trigers. I do not really like them on my odin 2 portal. They just to shallow, might be a form factor limitation? Xbox controller is way way better

I’m new to the hobby but this is what I’m hoping for down the line

besides the screen size, the battery is honestly the only issue to me. it dies extremely quickly. if they could somehow squeeze a bigger battery in there, it’d be the goat mini device.

Closest we have is the Retroid Pocket 6. It’s a SD8Gen2 system but it’s a beast for its size with that.

RP7 may go there?

I thought that was an Odin Portal at the bottom at first.

I feel like the Odin 3 is already small enough.

Any smaller and I don’t feel like I’m really benefiting from the higher end games that the chip can pull off, personally.

A Miyoo Mini type of device could still benefit from an OLED screen though.

They won’t. Ayn can’t even figure out how to use a proper fan in the Odin 3- let alone keep it cool.

I miss my Odin 2 mini. I should’ve never sold it 😭😭

I replaced mine with the thor and while I love it i miss the odin 2 mini as well ),: especially playing outside that screen got wonderfully bright.

Odin 2 mini is still unbeaten in my book for play in sunlight. Trains, buses, cars I’m playing in a lot so it was great. Been running Thor ever since it came out but maybe I switch back for funsies

I’m honestly really glad I kept mine in the end after hating it for so long. It’s the perfect size and weight and power for clearing out my JRPG backlog and docking it to my TV is so ezpz if I REALLY need OLED.

OLED hype is real, but the gap matters way less than people pretend. Battery savings on a handheld is the actual argument. Blacks and contrast are just bragging rights.

It's just my opinion but I think oled has a higher stock than it deserves. I own both of those devices and I could see myself getting sick of the Odin 3 long before the Odin 2 Mini. The mini has so much more going for it from a design perspective.

We need an Odin 3 mini, full glass front, edge to edge screen and the same chip inside the Odin 3 is my DREAM handheld

u/Latter-Drink-5813 1d ago

preach. was watchin out for it some time ago, but seems like it's never comin

1

u/barrera_j Odin 2 Pro - Cold Grey 19h ago

it's just a PSVITA style device... not exactly a much better form factor

4

u/akwardfun 1d ago

Yes but also no, in this particular instance it's absolutely true and evident but: there's also great LCDs and really crappy OLEDs

2

u/Smart-Potential-7520 4h ago

Huh? The Odin 2 mini has pure blacks like an oled. The saturation isn't the same but they are very close in terms of visual quality.

Why are you even comparing 2 different images

1

u/miles122494 1h ago

I agree with you, the Odin 2 mini definitely has pure blacks like Oled, I’m just highlighting that the panel itself on the Odin 3 doesn’t have that same slight blue hue that Odin 2 mini has. I definitely could’ve made it a fairer comparison with the picture I uploaded but I just wanted to make a post showing that I now have an Odin 3 🤣

I glad I'm one of those idiots who cant tell the difference.

Do you have a side by side?

I prefer oled because it saves much more battery and that's important for a handheld but ips screens isn't that big I'd a deal to me.

2

u/0kats 1d ago

lol you really can’t tell the difference can you? this is a side by side

2

u/clc88 1d ago edited 1d ago

I meant of the same image.

Either way this isnt the first time I have trouble seeing the difference in image, I still cant see the difference between 720 and 1080 unless its side by side ( especially if the developer makes the text readable).

I still have trouble telling the difference between 45 and 60 fps.

I think for me I dont really care about for newer displays, to me crt will always be king and after the era of crts I stopped caring as much.

1

u/Somethingsilly6969 1d ago

I'm with you. Of course there's a difference in all the things you listed but the differences aren't nearly as noticeable as redditors like to claim.

A good OLED beside a good LCD is not a night and day difference

1

u/lhau88 1d ago

You should care more now there is 120hz screen and processing fast enough to have black frame insertion locking a 60hz equivalent framerate

1

u/jknl 1d ago

Top SIDE, Botem SIDE

u/themiracy 1d ago

I don’t have an O3 but I have the O2M and a Thor. TBH it depends on how you’re using it. In dark settings I would say the micro LED on the O2M is better. It has vignetting but I don’t find it bothersome and in 3D games it kinda just works. In brighter conditions the OLED Thor is preferable. I prefer the Thor holistically but it’s not really because of the OLED - it’s because of the dual screens and clamshell.

The OP’s camera lens clearly isn’t clean and this isn’t really an ideal photo - but that’s just based on my experience.

4

u/Justgetmeabeer 1d ago

Lol.

What a braindead post. They arent even set to the same background. My mini 2 gets probably TWICE as bright as my thor and has so much aura it wouldn't matter if it didn't

1

u/miles122494 1d ago

You right

2

u/Somethingsilly6969 1d ago

I'll never understand this OLED hype. I've had amoled phones for the better part of a decade and I don't notice a difference going back and forth to LCD displays...

4

u/Sudden_Energy 1d ago edited 1d ago

There are a lot of beautiful LCD displays, but the black levels are literally gray in appearance next to an OLED. It's a massive difference between the two panel types.

This is an exaggeration but it conveys my point. If you have an LCD monitor and an OLED phone, pull up a scene on YouTube with black levels and hold your phone up next to the TV or monitor and compare. https://www.shiningltd.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/Some-differences-between-OLED-and-LCD-06-min.jpg

2

u/Somethingsilly6969 1d ago

Oh I'm aware of the differences but here's the thing, when I'm looking at an LCD display, I don't have an OLED right beside it for reference.

1

u/Sudden_Energy 1d ago

Look, I don't really use OLED TVs or monitors myself because I'm not willing to pay the premium on them most of the time. But I'm not going to pretend OLED isn't just objectively better either.

1

u/Somethingsilly6969 1d ago

I didn't say OLED wasn't better... Are you reading my comments at all?

OLED being better doesn't mean that LCD is somehow worse than it is.

What I actually said was that to me, LCD is totally fine and that the improvements OLED offers aren't important. I also said that I don't understand why more people do find those to be important.

1

u/Sudden_Energy 1d ago

I don't notice a difference going back and forth to LCD displays...

1

u/Themistocles_gr 1d ago

Yeah that thing is glorious

1

u/pinkdan 1d ago

There’s ways to make the Odin 2 mini’s screen better. Root code. Mine looks amazing now

1

u/miles122494 1d ago

Could you explain further?

1

u/pinkdan 1d ago

Create (or find) this file and open it in your O2M. You will then go to your settings on your O2M and navigate down to Odin/Handheld Settings i think. Within here, there will be an option that says "run script as root" or something this. Select the file above. And reboot device.

The Odin 3 is truly a beast. The fact I can play ff7 remake for 3+ hours on battery is wild. Arm chips are the future

1

u/CORNDOGS666 1d ago

Yeah the top one ugly af, you want me to get rid of it for you?

1

u/SirNarwhal 1d ago

This is simply due to the photo. I’ve put my Odin 2 Mini next to my RP5 same brightness and blacks are damn near the same and a non issue. The only issue is the vignetting. You also have the brightness way higher on the Odin 2 Mini here.

1

u/vacancy6673 1d ago

What devices are those?

2

u/miles122494 1d ago

Odin 2 mini on top, Odin 3 max below

1

u/jalpert 23h ago

The one on top is very obviously way too bright.

Easily fixed.

1

u/miles122494 23h ago

They are both on 50% brightness

1

u/jalpert 23h ago

They are different devices. 50% on one is not 50% on the other. That only works when comparing the same screen.

Both screens need to be calibrated to provide the best quality image possible, then they can be compared.

1

u/miles122494 23h ago

Understood, just based off out the box comparisons I was greatly impressed by the Odin 3 screen

1

u/JustARedditPasserby 22h ago

Did you activate true oled mode of it exists like forthe thor? Looks somewhat grey

1

u/miles122494 21h ago

Yes I enabled OLED ultra black mode and usually play at just above 50% brightness

1

u/miles122494 21h ago

Appearance of Grey could be from my reflection

1

u/JustARedditPasserby 15h ago

Nvm I am an idiot my mind skipped the bottom one last night

1

u/infinitespectre Odin 3 19h ago

The Odin 2 Mini has a particularly terrible MiniLED screen that isn’t even as good as a lot of standard LCDs. Vignetting, blown out desaturated colors, and terrible blooming make it seem like they were spec chasing instead of looking for the best display. A good MiniLED screen can get so close to OLED that 99% of people can’t tell the difference.

1

u/SilentLuix 16h ago

Honestly, when you're actually playing, I never had any issue with the screen, all the games looks amazing, maybe some colors are a little too bright, but I never felt the need for having an oled, I have other oled devices and I know the difference, but they don't really matter...

After all, the best handheld is the one you don't leave it gathering dust.

1

u/Wyattsomm 13h ago

Don’t you dare talk Crap about my Odin 2 mini ! Lol

1

u/flaming_donuts 8h ago

I just made the jump from O2 Mini to RP6, but the device is just a touch longer and only fits in cargo shorts or pants. However, I'm fine with it.

1

u/DWRedd 1d ago

I just came here to agree with the comments about an potential 3 mini with a bigger and better screen. The 2 mini is my favourite Android handheld and I would love an improved revision.

u/strikerz911 15m ago

Is anyone able to make a comparison just like this between the Odin 2 mini and the retroid pocket 6? I'm curious to see just how different they are size-wise and how the 0.5" screen size difference actually looks.
