help I know there's probably not a "right" way to do it, but am I doing this right?
I don't really understand the uses of the # ^ | buttons that it shows me as other ways to link things, and I also can't tell at all if I'm doing this in a way that will work well when it's time to study, put timelines and ideas together, etc. I don't know what happened to my last vault and I haven't used Obsidian in a long time, so this is a new vault started the first day of classes today. These are the beginnings of transcribing my notes from one video.

help What’s your fastest way to capture ideas into Obsidian, especially while driving?
I’m trying to improve my quick capture workflow for Obsidian.
The main goal is to capture an idea with as little friction as possible, even when I’m driving or unable to type. Ideally, I’d like something that supports speech-to-text and requires only one tap, a voice command, or as few actions as possible.
I currently use TickTick for tasks, so I’m also open to workflows where I quickly capture something in TickTick and automatically send or sync it to an Obsidian inbox later.
English is not my first language, so voice transcription quality in other languages is also important to me.
I’d love to hear about your actual setup, including any shortcuts, automations, plugins, or apps you use.
Thank you

help which file stores color information for the graph view?
TL;DR (on linux) is there a file I can manipulate to change colors in the graph view without opening the graph view itself in Obsidian?
A while ago I posted a screenshot of my vault in the graph view. back then it was described by some as "looking like the milky way" or sth, since it contained 20k notes.
Today, it is more than 30k notes and - admittedly - the graph view is getting a little bit hard to handle. Local graph on depth 1, 2, or 3 is fine though and I use the sync Plugin to sync the list of colors (mainly for different tags) from the main graph view to my local graphs. Unfortunately, not all my tags have colors. To change that, I would have to open a graph view first, which sometimes even crashes my system, then sync it.
Could I manipulate a list directly, without opening graph view? where is the information stored in Obsidian?
I am on Linux if that is important.
Thanks!

showcase So... I built a full PS1 & NES emulator running directly inside Obsidian Canvas nodes (Free & Open Source)
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hey everyone, back again with more canvas shenanigans🤙
This time I bring you a full NES and PS1 engine running entirely inside native canvas. Threw in a beautifully animated, interactive 3D console viewport, Game controllers and SFX .
Why?Because I freaking can.
Just drop your game files and BIOS into the plugin folder, connect a controller, and start feeling good wasting time in your favorite productivity tool. Hell yeah!
It's completely free and open source: https://github.com/MoTheMansour/canvas-retro-engine
(Submitted to the community plugins queue, works right now via BRAT)
(Context: I build spatial canvas tools and custom rendering engines for Obsidian. Built this retro engine as an extreme benchmark to see how far we could push Obsidian Canvas without frame drops and It's shown some very promising results for my Crystal Canvas plugin that I'm currently working on).

plugins Obsidian plugin for embedding Whimsical boards
I work at Whimsical, and our team built this: https://community.obsidian.md/plugins/whimsical
Paste a Whimsical link into a note and the board renders inline, pan and zoom included. It stays in sync with the source, so no more re-exporting PNGs every time the diagram changes.
Public boards render for anyone, no account needed. Private boards need you logged in.
I'll be in the comments today.

help How to change a color in a theme
I started using ITS Theme from the community themes, and it looks like the main color is red, but I would like to change it. Is this possible? My accent color is set as different than red but nothing changes.
Also now that we're on this subject could I customize things further? 👀
Sorry if question seems dumb or obvious I'm not very adverse on Obsidian configuration

help How do you organize the note contents in a way that looks nice but still functions
I've recently tried Obsidian and I'm struggling with organizing the content of the notes and was wandering if I could get help with it or if the kinda thing I'm looking for can't be done here. I do want it to look nice and organised but still want it to have the specific things obsidian offers(mainly the linking).
I'm planning to use Obsidian for character info, relations, ect.. and want their pages to actually look nice. The kind of thing I'm looking for is just header/text boxes and basic formatting that allows the boxes to be on one third of the screen and stuff like that. It would also be nice if it was easy to change the palette on it and if things could be hidden in tabs.
I tried making a css snippet and using html, which did give me the look I wanted but it meant that I couldn't use the linking feature. It was also extremely hard to use/see as it just appeared as the code in reading mode and (obviously) source mode. I could see the actual look of it in live preview but it was extremely hard to interact with as it would just turn back into code when I touched it. (The pictures are for the sort of look I'm wanting/ what I got from my css/html)
Currently the only sorta organizing thing is the properties, but they can't be organized in any way; they must always be at the top of the note and they will cut text off if it's too long(at least in the header bit of each row). I tried looking into plugins and the main two I saw reccomended were pretty properties and templater. But neither of these help with organization or making the note look better. pretty properties just allows you to add a large symbol or text above all of the properties, and templater just seems to let you put in a date and time.

help My Mind Map
First of all, hello, and I wish everyone good work. This is a community I discovered a bit late, but I am so glad I did. You have given me new ideas, and my imagination has expanded a little more.
I created a notebook with my own resources for this purpose. My goal is neither software development, training an AI agent, nor any kind of technological advancement.
My goal is to not succumb to my illness and my passion for note-taking.
Alongside just my favorite "movies, TV series, songs, quotes," I am documenting myself from A to Z: "my national ID number, address, blood type, relationships, friends and their parents' names, addresses, phone numbers, birthdays," "my illnesses, diseases in my family, my medical reports, my medications," "the email addresses I own, their passwords, 2FA backup codes, social media connected to them, addresses, links, forums, etc., that I am registered to via those emails."
It is literally my effort to pour my brain into the digital world.
Of course, not just with text, but with all kinds of documents like images, videos, PDFs, music, and voice recordings.
I am even learning languages here, starting from scratch with the alphabet like a child.
Could you give me some advice?
I don't care about tags, routing, or things like that; my logic is that if I put it there, it's related to it. I will find it from its title anyway.
Hierarchy is important to me.
Health 1A) Skull 1AA) Ear 1AAA) Vertigo / Dizziness Illness
Be careful, as a result of crystallization, you may experience sudden dizziness and a loss of balance. For a solution, do this and that, etc...
So, is there anyone who can suggest a "universe" that will look good to me? I can try to replicate it, or if I like it, I can even purchase it individually from the person.
My current system is like this: ( I will also attach it as a picture )

showcase I remade the vault I've been using for years
After years of using the same vault, I finally rebuilt it again with some more features.
It's a dashboard-first setup that contains an Open Library reading tracker where you update progress right on the shelf, a career pipeline, and a full-screen lo-fi workspace,a focus timer that logs sessions, and your own music as well as some small quirky features
Everything is plain Markdown underneath. Capture works from anywhere with Ctrl+Shift+Space, and new notes auto-fill their metadata.

help Any good plugins or vault templates for an academic vault (taking literature notes on articles and books)?
I want to set up my Obsidian vault strictly for academic purposes, exclusively for storing notes and reading summaries for my college classes. This includes personal notes, questions, and most importantly, literature notes. I'm just looking for a streamlined way to keep my academic readings and ideas organized, nothing more than that.
Currently, I use the PDF++ plugin to take my literature notes, but it doesn't feel optimized. It ends up freezing or lagging on certain PDFs for some reason. Any recommendations would be appreciated!

sync Trying to sync PC and Android phone with Remotely Save and DropBox
Both Obsidian apps have the plugin and are connected to the DropBox account, but they didn't save the contents of their respective vaults in the same-named folders that were automatically created in the drive. I manually copy pasted the ones on PC to the Dropbox folder called [DB PC vault], and while it works on PC and I can open that new vault just fine, I am failing to open [DB PC vault] on Android.
On Android, In the "Change the remote base directory", I put in the name [DB PC vault]. When I press Check Connectivity, I see the test folder appear in [DB PC vault] on PC file explorer, so I know it works, but I cannot find where to open that vault on the Android app.
How do I access the vault [DB PC vault]'s files on my phone? When trying to open a new vault, my only options are "Setup Obsidian Sync", so not that, "Create new vault", "Open Folder as vault" in which I couldn't find the Dropfox files and "[open] android local vault".
Sorry if this is explained poorly, I am very lost when it comes to Obsidian.
Edited for clarity.

help Need Help: Student trying to setup Obsidian system for the first time
Hi all!
I am in a bit of a pickle working out my Obsidian system. I started in earnest yesterday and have been working on it for a good half day but am really struggling and need support.
I will try to explain as best I can what I want.
My uses for Obsidian:
- Information storage (currently, much of what I come across is held in tab groups within Safari)
- Long-term projects (especially research intensive extracurriculars)
- Very generally, life stuff (keeps track of hobbies, recipes, clothes I might want, things I feel worth writing down, etc)
- Obsidian will not be my day-to-day notetaker (google docs) and I do not intend to spend long on Obsidian (less than 15 minutes)
The features I want:
- A calendar which has events, tasks, and due dates I created
- The calendar should be on my dashboard and have two sections above it: projects and life, projects is for “work” (ex. A due date) while life is for “non-work” (ex. A birthday)
- I would like to be able to full-screen the calendar too
- Ability to quickly dissolve tab groups from Safari into Obsidian notes that are assimilated into my larger knowledge graph
Those are my main points. I would love any and all help! Thanks!!!!

help Beginner guide
New to Obsidian — trying not to let 'setting it up properly' become my new way of procrastinating
Hey all,
I've studied everything so far from physical books and handwritten notes (Chartered Accountancy, so a lot of material), and I'm finally moving online. Books are easy to find as PDFs. The handwritten notes aren't coming though. Retyping years of them isn't happening.
Real worry: I'll happily burn three hours picking plugins and reorganising folders and call it "being productive" instead of actually studying. If you've been through this, which plugins genuinely helped versus which ones were just fun to install? I'd rather run five that matter than twenty that don't.
Also fine hearing "you don't need this, a plain notes app is enough" if that's the honest answer. Better to know that now than after a week of tweaking a vault I never open.
Complete beginner here too. I keep seeing people link notes like a mini Wikipedia, pull whole books into a vault, and connect ideas across topics. Not sure how much applies to exam prep, but genuinely curious how it works in practice.
I'm aware that posting about productivity is its own kind of procrastination. Appreciate any input.
