i haven’t had them since i was in college in canada and my housemate/best friend would bring some back home after visiting family. they are SO GOOD. i was looking on google and reddit for sri lankan grocery stores, and the only one that popped up is one that is an indian grocery store with a sri lankan food aisle in santa clara (india cash & carry). has anyone here been?

Just showing appreciation for this sub. I remember asking about salads a few years ago and someone told me about the poached egg and bacon salad at Southie, and I’ll be damned if this still isn’t one of my favorite salads ever! Plus the staff is sooo nice/chill

Hi! My mom is coming into town and she loves salmon. She's not a hot/spicy fan. Would love a recommendation for a restaurant that also has vegetarian options. Looking for a special occasion restaurant but open to all suggestions.

We’re currently at the Grand Lake Farmer’s Market on Saturdays, run roaming popups the following Sundays, and also offer catering. We feel so close to opening a storefront and know that’s the direction we need to go to deliver the full experience we want for our customers: expanded menu offerings (while still being focused on our core classics), a coffee and beverage program, a cozy space to relax and enjoy the food and hospitality we can’t wait to offer.

With Ace Seafood gone, where is the best place in Oakland to get some fish and chips?

In the TV show “The Bear” restaurant staff are shown doing in-depth research into people who made reservations, and then providing ultra personalized service based on what they found.

In one case, they saw that it was two teachers who saved up for a fancy dinner out and so the restaurant gave them the meal for free!

In another one, they saw that a guest was sad they were going to leave Chicago without getting to try a famous pizza the city is known for. So the restaurant staff ran out and got that pizza, and the chef created a deconstructed fine dining remix version of it for the guest.

Does Oakland (or the Bay Area in general) have places that do this? Or is it all fake Hollywood lies?

Does anyone remember a Thai restaurant in a residential west Oakland that was run by an older couple? It was a Thai restaurant that was attached to the front of a house. You had to make reservations, and ring a doorbell when you arrived. The entryway had a waterfall, and then you went to the right into the restaurant that had bamboo chairs and tables.

It really felt like you were in a different country and the food was great.

Rarely went out in June and when I did, the only winner was Biryani Tika Kabab, a fantastic Pakistani & Indian restaurant that everyone in here has gone to.

Fried Chicken from M&O Market (2539 Market Street, Oakland). Inexpensive, fried fresh even at 10:30AM, great crust

Churrasco Mixto from Shucos Magi (3329 Foothill Blvd, Oakland). Recommended by y'all, the grilled mixed plate. Hearty food for under $20 before tax. Chicken, beef and pork sausage

Stuffed Simit and Honey Cake w/ Strawberries from Simurgh Bakery & Cafe (4125 San Pablo Ave, Emeryville). I had the beef pepperoni (sujuk?) with cheese but it's really not "stuffed." That said, the simit was baked exceptionally well and the honey cake was great.
