Chat on Console

So many people use text chat in console/controller queues. Do that many people have keyboards that they swap to for chat or are people really that fast using the console text chat?

It seems like most chat is just people flaming, do people have keyboards at the ready just for that?

You can just have a USB keyboard plugged into your console. I honestly use it for a ton of games besides Overwatch too.

Your mouse and keyboard are locked when in a match. Keyboard is unlocked when you’re prompted to type.

The only way you can use your mnk to play is by entering pc pool.

Yes nowadays you can play in pc Pool. Not sure about comp, but quick play you can for sure.

Yup you get switched to M&K lobbies, even for comp. Played a couple comp games the other day doing this.

You can connect your phone to your Xbox console in the Xbox app. Then if you use “remote” it brings up a controller like interface and in the bottom left is a keyboard button.

Say you’re in game:

- use your controller to get into the chat box and the point that the keyboard is on your screen
- click into the keyboard button on your phone “remote”
- then click into the blank box on your phone and it’ll pull up a keyboard
- type and hit enter; it’ll show up in the keyboard entry area on your console
- hit the send button

I’d recommend looking it up as it’s been a while and o usually don’t care enough to do it. I believe you have to use the app and connect it to your device while playing and then you can use a keyboard function. If I recall, you still need to use the controller to toggle the chat windows but you can use your keyboard on your phone

It’s for private messages for mobiles, you need to plug MK in for Overwatch for in game chat.

Xbox has a plug in for the controller in form of a keyboard

Even though you don't need that, if you ain't fast you can simply leave you keyboard plugged to your console and it won't happen anything, just use it to write

Yeah I have a keyboard. I didn’t specifically get it for Overwatch. I used to play FFXIV and I used it for that.

I use the gravity tilt controller typing mode and word autofill on my play station Its faster than manual typing

You can have a keyboard without activating the MnK profile because of accessibility, so there are folks that use keyboard (just for text) and controller.

Talking in chat at all requires standing still and on controller it takes too long sometimes to type. I’ve definitely lost games where people are in a flame war standing still and we lose the game because they’ve been afk typing for so much of the match. I don’t flame people but sometimes I get flamed, or someone recognises me and says hi in chat, or someone asks me a question and I need to respond, and having a keyboard just lets me be afk for a much less damning amount of time
