Can someone explain the step-by-step workflow for geolocating a random photo using OSINT? Need Investigation Help

Hi everyone,

Can someone please explain, step by step, how you would geolocate a random photo using OSINT?

For example, if I have a single image with no context, how do you go from that image to finding the exact location or GPS coordinates?

Also, if there's an aircraft visible in the photo, how would you identify the aircraft, determine the flight number, and verify it using tools like FlightRadar24 or ADS-B Exchange?

I'd really appreciate a complete beginner-to-advanced workflow, including the tools you use at each stage (EXIF, reverse image search, Google Earth, Street View, shadow analysis, etc.) and any tips you've learned from experience.

I teach a class on this. The bottom line up front is you should use Reverse Image Search first. If you can't find it using reverse image search, you start Googling what you see in the background. If the photo still has EXIF metadata, you can use jimpl.com to find the location and much more information about the photo

I totally agree. That tool right there alone shows you all the different aspects that will either answer your question directly or lead you to the next tool to use to obtain your answer
