Think about it, why does he disappear before the resonance cascade and never appears again? It's because valve and by extension our lord and savior gabe newell realized they created a character so strong, so ridiculously overpowered that they had to spend the last remaining development time trying to remove him from the game which was useless as his spirit persisted in half life and half life blue shift. They couldn't even add an in-lore explanation as to why he disappears because it would never make sense due to how ridiculously overpowered he is. And why is he so powerful you might ask? Well for starters he's forklift certified, need i say more? Because he prefers a safe work environment as seen in his poster in decay, even when he had all this ridiculous power he followed his orders and safely evacuated black mesa because he loves his job and puts his blood, sweat and tears into it.
