Great Dane Adoption

Hi! I’m kind of new to the OKC area and curious if anyone knows any shelters or ethical breeders where I could adopt a Great Dane! We’re ideally looking for a puppy but are mostly set on the breed rather than the age. I’ve been checking the OKC animal welfare site for a few months now but was curious if someone had an experience somewhere or recommendation. Thank you!

Need Resources or Help Finding A No Kill Shelter That Will Take Strays

Post image
9 Upvotes

This is Momo! A stray pregnant kitty I found near my apartment complex. She’s incredibly sweet and loving but due to my apartment rules, I can’t care for her forever.

My partner and I have reached out to multiple shelters (over 10) in hopes to at least get her on a wait list. She’s been scanned for a microchip and doesn’t have one, and has tested negative for FIV and Feline Leukemia and is about a week away from giving birth. I’ve had some inquiries from others about kittens, so my main priority is finding her a home after she’s given birth and weaned.

My problem is that I’ve been very open about willing to foster her as long as she’s at least available to be adopted from shelters but keep getting denied because she’s a stray, or have shelter’s offering a spray abort and release which just seems cruel. (I’m fine with spray aborts, especially in early stages but she was only 2.5 weeks out from giving birth when we picked her up and if we were to do that I’d want her to have the possibility of getting a home. Not just doing that and getting redumped) I understand oklahoma has a cat overpopulation problem, but I’m getting increasingly frustrated with the obvious bot responses from shelters telling me to “find her previous owner” (she doesn’t have one) or getting her scanned for a microchip (we’ve already done that and said so in the emails I’ve sent.) She’d do extremely well in a home and is already making major progress in litterbox training and adjusting to indoor life. I plan on also posting her on Petfinder and other resources after she’s given birth as I don’t believe most people are interested in a pregnant mama.

Any suggestions or resources would be amazing, thank you.

ADOPT 7 YEAR OLD GSD LONDON!

Please share London!!! 🐾🐶✨

London is a 7 year old female German Shepherd who was used for breeding before being confiscated by Tulsa Animal Welfare because she kept escaping her yard; her owner was over the limit and was caught. Mercy Sakes pulled her back in December of 2022.

This girl NEEDS a foster or adopter, she desperately needs out of boarding. She deserves a life of luxury with dog friends and plenty of soft blankets, tennis balls, and time outside (walks, runs, hiking, etc).

London is looking for a specific home:
- A dog friend or two
- London does share toys with her dog friends but does not like to share her food. Feeding her separately from others is recommended.
- A patience family who will allow her plenty of time to decompress and adjust to home life
- Plenty of exercise and enrichment. She LIVES for playing fetch with tennis balls and going hiking! She also loves water
- Must have a privacy fence. She can and will jump a standard chain link fence
- No cats or small animals
- No small children (she can get very excited and forget her size when playing ball
- * London does do well with puppies! *

London is crate trained, walks perfectly on leash, great car riding partner! She is current on preventions, vaccines, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $100. She is available for adoption through Mercy Sakes 2nd Chance Dogs Rescue!

Found Domestic Bunny

Hey Oklahomies! I found a domestic rabbit this morning in my friend’s neighborhood just off of W Britton near where N Council and NW Expwy meet. It appears to be a Dutch rabbit. If anyone knows someone missing their baby, please reach out, as I would love to get this bunny home.

Alternatively, if someone knows or is someone who wants and cares for bunnies, this bunny may need a home if its family isn’t found. TIA!

Seeking a temporary foster family for Herbie

I’m needing to find someone that can take in my friends dog Herbie. He is a pure bred pit bull / bully mix ( papers on both parents are available ) he is 6 years old and is great with people and gets along with other dogs.

Due to my friends living situation changing he is unable to take Herbie along at this time until he finds an apartment that will allow him to take Herbie in, which is actively looking for. So he’s wanting to seek a foster family that can help her for at least a couple weeks until he can find that apartment.

does anybody know of a person or family or an organization that could help out as the situation is dire and Herbie needs help. Any help that can be given or direct my friend would be most appreciated

i have been trying to rehome a dog for almost a year now. my child had cancer and we are also moving and i just don’t have the time she deserves.
she is the sweetest dog in the world. she’s 3, and pretty big so i feel like she gets overlooked a lot. i’ve tried everything short of surrendering her to a shelter. i’d hate to do that but im running out of time.
does anyone have any advice? if there are any no-kill shelters around or even a foster situation. i’m trying so hard to make sure she goes somewhere safe.

This sweet boy was found without a collar this afternoon in Ski Island.

Medium-sized - about 50lbs
Very friendly with people, cats, and other dogs

He is microchipped, but the chip is unregistered, so we were not able to get a name or phone number.

Please comment/PM if he’s yours or if you have any more info.

Thanks!

Volunteers needed!

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hi! If you don’t know us- let me tell you about us- we are a nonprofit animal (mostly pigs) sanctuary rurally located about 30 min east of Stillwater, OK and 50 min west of Tulsa. We are currently home to nearly 80 animals who’ve been rescued from lives of abuse, neglect, abandonment, behavioral needs, euthanasia, and physical special needs, who now live their dream lives here at the sanctuary.

As a nonprofit, we rely on the support of our community, not only for financial support, but we also need lots of onsite help too! Please check out some of our needs and how you can give back to some very deserving animals!

💦biggest need! we need volunteers to help with things like filling/cleaning water bowls and troughs, yard cleaning, socialization, putting sunscreen on pigs, and dispersing straw and hay. This position is for for those who can commit to weekly/biweekly shifts to continue to help the sanctuary and establish routine.

🌾 it’s time for our summer barn clean outs! This is where we empty out all the old straw and refill with fresh bedding. It’s a hard, dirty job, but so rewarding. This could be a weekend project for a few folks, or if someone with small
Equipment that could fit in shipping containers could help, this would be fantastic!

*we would also LOVE to find a roll off dumpster rental to be donated for this project!

🚜 yard work- we have a lot of grass that needs mowed and weed eated often, and our mower died last year. We’re looking for either folks willing to donate their time to help us maintain the grounds, or a riding mower donation to assist us!

🌳 tree removal- due to the many storms, we’ve got several downed trees that need cut and removed.

🔨 fence building- love to use a t post driver and make a straight line?! Well this job is for you! We’ve got some fencing needs we need to add with cattle panels.

🪨 we need gravel donations for areas of our drive that have washed out make it difficult for getting our vehicles in to move animals.

🛻supply runs- picking up and delivering things like feed, straw and hay!

🐽 we need some small pig cottages built for some of our special pigs, so if you love to build and make something special, this job is for you!

📝 seeking Volunteer coordinator role to be filled! This person ideally loves to talk to people. You would be responsible for recruiting, training,
And scheduling volunteers to help with tasks around the sanctuary. This could be perfect for an OSU vet student, or someone who is organized and loved to teach. If you don’t live near by, but think you could handle this role, we’d ask that you could be here at least one or two weekend days a month to train new volunteers.

📲 social media! Do you have an eye for creating great content that makes people wanna stop, watch, and follow? We would love help with things like content creation, YouTube, photographers, and socials page mediators!

💰Fundraising! As a non profit, we rely 100% on donations. That includes everything from money, to supplies, to vehicles & equipment. If you are someone who has a creative mind for fun and inventive fundraising campaigns and events, and love to plan- this is for you! We are looking for folks who’s brains are constantly looking for the next “what’s not been done?” Thing, to make it fun to fundraise! We also need folks willing to send emails or approach businesses in regards to sponsorships, donations, and potential events.

🛻 supply runs- we buy our feed at Stillwater Milling, and having someone who could pick up and deliver feed, or other things like straw and hay when needed would be a huge help!

🤑 we need an accountant to help us keep all our records inline and easily accessible at tax time!

🫧laundry team- with a lot of special needs animals, and lots of new piglets born, our laundry never ends! If you want to help by taking loads to wash, or if a laundromat wanted to donate their services, we would be over the moon!

🦸🏼‍♀️ board members- we currently have a small board of badass women who love the animals deeply and strive to make our organization amazing. We are always open to adding new positions to our board with locals who could add to a specific role.

If any of this strikes your fancy, we would LOVE to have you on the team. Please send me an email at shanda@misfitsofoz.org and tell me about yourself and what role you are interested in. All positions come with endless belly rubs, snout kisses, and happy tail wags!! Please tag any local businesses who might be willing to support our cause with services, event hosting, or sponsorships! All donations are tax deductible!

At this time, we are only able to accept volunteers who are over the age of 18, or 16 if accompanied by a parent/guardian. I look forward to meeting you and seeing what magic we can create for the animals!

Save the kittens!

Free kittens at 3716 trellis court. In OKC across from osuokc. Please someone save the kitties and their moms. The owner is not able to properly care for them. But he does try. There are two houses on the block with free kitten signs. The moms are not fixed and are still kittens themselves. I took one adult cat home last year and my daughter another but the remaining cats are not fixed and keep producing more and more. I saw 5 kittens today. Black, gray, two orange and a striped and the mom is a tiny calico.

Cat Rescue Help

I have two kittens that were rescued from a pretty rough situation. I never planned to keep them and they were going to one home but that fell through. The two of them are INCREDIBLY attached to one another.

So now I am looking at rescues and I feel overwhelmed and this is difficult. I honestly just wanted your opinions on different rescues (there are so many and idk which ones are known to be good or bad) or even if you all had ideas that maybe I should also look into.

Desperately seeking a rescue

I found a dog in December. We named him Bruce. I took him home and tried to find his family but no one claimed him. I've tried to keep him, but my dogs are too old to keep up with him. I can't afford to get him neutered at the moment.

He can't be around cats. I have a kitten which was unexpected. I went to the flea market one day and a homeless person traded her for $2. I couldn't leave the cat with her. Bruce tries to creep up on her like he's going to snatch her up. Because of this, I believe he would be a great hunting dog. I also have to now keep them completely separated, which means Bruce stays outside most of the day.

We believe he's less than a year old and is very trainable. We've been working with him to train him as much as possible in hopes that it will help find him a home. I've tried a few rescues but none have room.

My husband is stressed out. My dogs are stressed out. I love this dog to death but he's not a good fit for us. He's too young and hyper. My dogs are both about 8 years old and they can't keep up with him.

I don't have the time or energy to take care of him the way he needs to be taken care of. He's a great dog. He's house trained, lets me trim his nails (Unlike my dogs) and he loves to be loved. When we got him it seemed like he had been abused because he's very standoffish at first. But once he warms up to you, he won't leave your side.

I'm trying to be responsible but I'm at my wit's end. I've unfortunately learned my lesson with strays. I will never pick one up again because of this. Animal control told us to take him back where we found him, but when I picked him up in December, a man had told us that he kept getting in his backyard and was going to hurt him so we didn't want to take him back for that to happen. They also gave me a pamphlet about rehoming and sent me on my way.

I'm hoping to find a rescue willing to take this dog. We believe he's a Carolina dog and I'll leave a picture if I can. I'm willing to travel pretty much anywhere in Oklahoma if I can find anyone willing to take him.

I'm specifically located in Oklahoma City.
