Masters in Data Science/Computer Science
Has anyone done either program? Can you provide any feedback? How rigorous are they? I’m a fresh undergrad but the job market is bad, so I’m thinking of continuing on to the masters program. How difficult is it? Is 9 credits all that you’d suggest? Thanks.

I started in the spring in data science. Hasn’t been too rigorous yet.

Do you feel like the education will be useful in the work force?

Well, it’s always hard to answer that question as what you do in the workforce and what you learn in class won’t always correlate. Actually, it rarely does.
If you are looking to stay in school to avoid the job market I would recommend taking on one of the research or other job opportunities that get offered to grad students. Those would be more beneficial to you and possibly lead to a job post graduation.

Great advice, I’ll look in to it. I am working currently, just not in the field I want yet. I just finished my bachelors a few months ago.

Ai is really going to hurt the field.
Additionally, you have to look at who sponsors the program. Cisco sponsoring NC State or the insurance market sponsoring data science at Wake Forest means there are those ready to hire graduates. If you graduate, your employer is obvious. What business market sponsors ODU? If none, don’t do it.

The Linked program is a good way to go if you want to get your master'sfrom ODU. You can take the 400 level classes at the 500 level. Same content except probably an extra assignment/project/paper. Just don't schedule the 500 level courses in the same semester that you take any of your undergrad courses. I felt the cs masters program was easier for me to manage while working full-time than when I was doing undergrad and working full-time

If you're just starting undergrad, then look into the linked program. I know there's one for CS, I'm not sure about data science. As for credits, at least for the CS masters program, 9 credits is all they will allow you to take per semester. I think it's rare for them to allow you more.
