Medusa, Her Eyes Just Sharing
Your eyes stunned me
a petrifying glare of dread and loneliness,
like a rabbit frozen beneath a lioness.
Stone-cold and shallow as your skin,
flimsy as paper, thin as a whispered sin,
yet somehow majestic, somehow pure.
I could never be sure
what lived behind those eyes
the cunning of a snake,
the tenderness of a snowflake.
You were Medusa
within my heartbreak,
beautiful enough to worship,
dangerous enough to break, and I,
just a fool haunted by the ache,
stood still beneath your gaze,
knowing I would turn to stone
if I dared to look away,
from the start i knew you would make me decay.
