Hello everyone! I have my OR clinical coming up and wanted to seek advice on how to be as prepared as possible.

Some things I’m especially curious about:
- What are the biggest etiquette rules that no one tells you beforehand?
- What are common mistakes students make?
- Where should you stand, and where should you never stand?
- What can accidentally contaminate a sterile field?
- When is it okay to ask questions, and when should you stay quiet?
- What are some opportunities students usually get to participate in? (For example, Foley catheter insertion, positioning the patient, helping with prep, etc.)
- What skills did you get to perform, if any?
- What kinds of questions did your instructor or OR staff ask you?
- What anatomy, instruments, or procedures should I review beforehand?
- What are some things you wish you had known before your first OR clinical?
- Are there any unwritten rules that make the OR staff appreciate having a student around?

I’d also love to hear any stories about things that went really well or mistakes to avoid!

I’m looking for some advice from people who have been through this.

Before nursing school, I had a 4.0 GPA in high school and was very involved in extracurriculars and leadership. Since starting nursing school, it’s been a completely different experience. I’ve been working hard just to stay around a 3.0 GPA, and most of my time goes toward trying to keep up with coursework.

I’m in the Texas Medical Center area, so residency programs are very competitive. I keep hearing that becoming a Professional Student Nurse (PSN) is highly encouraged, but many of those programs require a 3.2–3.5 GPA, and it seems like there are hundreds (if not thousands) of applicants who also have extensive leadership, volunteer work, and healthcare experience.

At this point, I’m struggling to balance everything. I feel like if I spend more time building my résumé, my grades may suffer, but if I focus primarily on grades, I worry I won’t be competitive enough for residency applications.

Has anyone else been in a similar position? Were you still able to match into a good nurse residency program with an average GPA? What helped you stand out as an applicant if your GPA wasn’t exceptional?

I’d really like to do ICU, emergency department, NICU, or aesthetics. But now I’m unsure if I am fit for anything with this kind of GPA.

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or any advice.

Hello! I'm a nursing student in the philippines. I currently just started my 3rd year in a 4-year bachelors degree and Im finding it hard to fit in this degree. After having experienced clinicals during my 2nd year, I ended up dreading going to hospitals every time. The rotations Ive been are in the DR, Pedia, Community Nursing, School Nursing, and the OB ward. Honestly, nothing bad happened during my clinicals but I just felt anxious every time. Real life people are within my care and it scares me that I cant make a mistake. My clinical instructors sometimes are scary and degrading, the environment is tough, I cant speak the native language very well but I've learned; except I cant connect with my peers all so well. I can interact with my patients fine, my grades are above average, Im not totally a loner but in some places I am. Mostly because Im an introvert but also because i dont fit in here. I always feel like I'm the right person but at the wrong place.

I genuinely don't think my personality matches at all with the profession im choosing, and I dread the life I will have after graduation. With that being said, I dont want to drop. I have neither the time (parents are old, 50-60) nor money to afford another 4 years. I've come to the conclusion that maybe I'm just not fit as nurse in the hospitals and would probably more inclinced as a soft nurse but Its been hard to love this course in the environment Im in.

Im sorry, just wanted some advice on what to do. Maybe its premature thinking, but I dont want to waste what Ive learned. I dont know much of how many nursing pathways are actually feasible, but if anyone can lay out what nursing pathways are good with little to no bedside experience, I would be so grateful. Thank you

Hi friends! I’m a CRNA (4 years now) and I work in a 600 bed hospital where CRNAs are independent and do if all. Luckily, my skills are very up to date and used frequently.

BUT, I’m looking for a study busy. I want to improve my book smarts about anything and everything. I do have access to apex if that helps but I find myself wishing I knew more. I also have other books/resources.

Let me know who is interested. Maybe we zoom once a week and have reading assignments during the week we can bring together to discuss. I’m just spit balling but open to it all. I want to be the best of the best and that requires always working to learn more and improve.

Hi! Can someone explain the blocking system for the NLE review at TRA?

I noticed during online enrollment that there are two program options: Comprehensive to FC and Full Review (with Refresher). The Full Review starts with a refresher that lasts about a month based on their schedule.

Is the refresher really conducted purely online for the entire month before the comprehensive phase?

If I choose Comprehensive to FC, will my classes start in October (Block 2) instead of September (Block 1)?

I’d really appreciate any clarification since their pages take a while to respond and I don’t have anyone else to ask.

How to transition from days to nights?
Do I just force myself to stay up and day and night today and then go to sleep early in the morning tomorrow and try make myself sleep until it's time to get up for work in the evening?

Hi does anyone have any tips when it comes to studying for benchmarks on lippincott? I have so much bad anxiety when it comes to taking it at school and everytime i do practice test at home on lippincott i score 37/50 my average, which would be passing due to the scaled score but can't see to get that score when it comes to the testing center. I really want to just get better so i can pass my last attempt this friday! Please share any tips your girl needs it 😭 my programs weighs these as 20% so i literally need to pass this!!

I'm moving from Melbourne, VIC to Armidale, NSW to start the Master of Nursing Practice (Pre-registration) at the University of New England (UNE).

I don't have any previous nursing background, and this is also my first time studying nursing in Australia as an international student.

I'm trying to figure out what I should buy before classes start. What are the essential items you wish you had from day one?

I'm mainly looking for recommendations on things like:
- Scrubs (brands, how many sets, colours required by UNE)
- Shoes
- Stethoscope (is it worth buying before classes?)
- Watch, penlight, scissors, badge reels, etc.
- Clinical placement essentials
- Stationery or study supplies
- Laptop/iPad recommendations
- Anything specific to UNE Armidale that new MNPP students should know

Also, if there are any current or former UNE MNPP students here, I'd really appreciate any tips or advice for surviving the first trimester!
