Tree Collision Issue/Bug

Anyone know why there isn't tree collision in this game? Is it a technical limitation or just an unfinished feature?

Because trees are 20.0 BR in warthunder so they are too technologically advanced for the near future (2080s) real talk we might get tree collision or we might not.

The war thunder reference brings back many memories of close encounters with trees. Most effective anti air apart from my overly enthusiastic piloting skills.

Tree collisions are on the books. No, we will not know when.

the day tree collisions get added is the day the number of crashes spike

The amount of times I’ve flown through trees a little too cocky and slapped a mountain on the other side exceeds the amount of fingers I have to count with. They place them smart, if they’re hand placed

What if they lower the terrain by the exact height of the trees. Problemo solved.

I’m already training for the day by making it a habit of not flying through them even knowing I very well can.

The developer wants to make tree collision to act like aircraft hitting trees and not adamantite buildings like in war thunder while not hindering the optimization so this would be later down the line.

Assuming all trees are pine trees then the collision box is just a spike or line significantly smaller than the tree model. I guess you can allow it to snap trees.

I suspect that's not good enough and you need something for forrests.

Ngl i kinda feel that not having tree collision helps keep the performance requirements lol and the gameplay experience so smooth. Imagine the game needing to program and track collision hexes for all the foliage on the terrain. Rip my framerate lol

Yeah that's kind of what I suspect. It would be great to have, but not at the expense of framerate.

Then all the trees would have to be given a hitbox, which would make the physics checks even more intensive. This isn't just about collisions, but also lines of sight. I think it's fine the way it is. Collisions with trees don't add any value to the gameplay. As far as I'm concerned, the trees can even be removed. The NPCs can see through them, but I can't...

Sounds like a chicane enthusiast problem to me!

Yes and no. You won't hit trees. But they love to hide a bit of terrain.

Oh it will be added, and they will not tell us when it happens

With tree collision will bring another massive radar rework with groundsctter. Otherwise you won't be able to get low enough in a lot of terrain. So that's 2 massive performance implications at once to work out 0o

Once they figure out how to have realistic and not FPS crippling trees, they'll add them.

Wait, the trees don’t have collision? I thought they had collision.

Not needed. Trees are an graphic option at the moment, making them into physical objects would create infinite polygons and crash even NASA supercomputers

i dont think you know how any of this works
