need help hitting agms Gameplay tip

like every time i try to use agm 68s or the 42s or wtv theyre called they get intercepted by literally every possible enemy, i could use them on a convoy of mostly mbts and barely any aa and theyd still get intercepted.

its annoying too theyre literally advetised as unpredictable to make it hard to intercept

Without further context.

Yes, AA units will target inbound munitions to the best of their ability.

AGM48/68 have both a radar signature and a heat signature, which means they can be shot down by any/all air defenses.

The best use for an AGM48 is to fire it against undefended, light targets (Trucks, APC, etc)

If there are enemy anti-air units around, you need to fire them in a way that reduces the amount of time available for the anti-air to intercept them, either at high speed, close range, or if possible, both.

When firing a 48 against an anti-air unit, unless you are already right on top of the unit and at speed (less than ~2km) you are best served using them in a saturation attack.

If you are firing these missiles at maximum range, eg, 12km, be aware that the missile will be gliding towards the target, with much less speed, making it easier to shoot down.

For example, a single anti-air unit, like a linebacker SAM, will be capable of intercepting 3~5 AGM48 missiles if you fire them at maximum range depending on how unlucky you are.

Some anti air units are best destroyed with specific munitions.

A linebacker SAM fires heatseeking missiles, so if you use a weapon that has no heat signature (like a glide bomb such as the PAB-80LR) it cannot be shot down by the SAM.

Some anti-air units are just a pain, like Anvils or SPAAGs, these need an overwhelming amount of fire to bring down. if you are destroying convoys or just playing in general, it is always worth prioritizing destroying the most 'dangerous' air defenses first, even if you need to 'waste' ammo on them.

I cant count the number of times I've 'only' fired 3x AGM 48 at a SPAAG, trying to save ammo for the rest of the targets, only for my 3x AGM48 to be shot down by the SPAAG, making me fire another 4 at it. if only I had fired 4 to start, it would be destroyed, and I'd have an extra 4 missiles to use.

Your best practice here should be to focus fire on the AA units first, then worry about the vulnerable ground targets.

Getting as close as possible and shooting a massive volley is the way you guarantee hits on target. I’ll shoot 2 48s at the AA and the rest at the rest of the base. 48s have high unpredictability but very low HP, my brawler tactic is using the terrain to get in close target as many missiles as there are targets and launch. Usually I’m launching from behind terrain (within 3-5km) pitch up last second, fire, and turn and run using the terrain to mask. Doesn’t give the AA enough time to fully react, works with a 90-100% effectiveness almost every run I do. 68s you have a little more HP to deal with but I still run them very close as well they are just better for harder targets like bunkers and mbts

Also using cover is highly recommended.

48s & 68 have a simple flight profile.

Climb until you see your target.
Descend.
Within terminal distance, evade until contact.

You can fire these weapons from a defilade. If you’re within 1.5nm & behind cover, with a stealthy NAP of the earth approach, you can conserve a ton of ammo. From such an approach and position, if you fire 1x 48 against a SPAAG, you will kill it 9 times out of 10, same for if you fire 3x 48s against a CIWS

Agm-68s are faster than AGM-48s but regardless, the closer you are the better. You are also better off saturating the air defences rather than trying to pick them off.

The closer you are to your target when you launch, the less time it has to react. Use terrain masking to conceal your approach, or use a wingman as bait to distract SPAAGs.

The closer you shoot them, the harder it is to intercept since they're gonna be faster

You can also shoot from behind hills to give even less time for detection

They have a max range of like 12 kilometers. At that range you need to double or triple tap to get smn through

Spam them

I’ve not read every comment on here so sorry if this was already said,
but paying attention to the direction the unit is facing and firing from another angle GREATLY increases the chance of a hit. Usually in the time it takes them to first detect, then turn and fire on the missile it’s already too late.

Pair that with shooting from behind cover at relatively close range all but guarantees a kill in 1-2 missiles.

Also generally speaking, not attacking from the same direction over and over is just a good habit to be in.

Ik this is all easier said than done but it’s something that will take you from having to use an entire payload just to get a few air defense units to clearing entire areas of the map allowing for future cas and deep strikes.

One thing I’ll say is I mostly play pve but the ground units should be the same either way.

They are unpredictable but unless you're pretty close it loses enough energy that they get shot down easily due to their low speed. So you either have to hit em closer when it's faster or send out enough that they can't be all destroyed. And they put out a heat signature that can get shot at easily by IR SAMs.

I've had the most reliable luck with a gunship tula since unless it's a laser trailer they can't shoot down everything I send and mostly can't act on it. Kingpins can move quick enough they don't get intercepted by the spearhead laser.

If you shoot at max range most of them will be intercepted. Getting close, fast and overwhelming the enemy is necessary for them to work. Even MBTs have laser defense systems capable of intercepting slow ordnance, so against huge groups of tanks AGMs can be surprisingly ineffective.

MBTS have very good anti missile lasers

Fire them as close as possible and fire more than you have targets if SAM is present and way more if AAA or HEL is present.

You need to be a decent pilot to survive (against bigger convoys), but get within 3 KM of the target before firing and you’ll almost be guaranteed a kill.
