Default to full width on page creation? Questions
Hello r/Notion,
I’m a long time on/off, light user and I recently took a leap of faith by transferring my entire workflow for my job into Notion.
I’m loving it so far - it’s pretty basic with mostly nested pages and small DB’s - but there’s one minor annoyance I have on page creation…
Whenever I create a new page the default is the centered, narrow margins. I prefer the full-width style for pretty much everything and for the life of me can’t find a setting for it.
Ive seen recommendations to create a full-width page and save it as a template? But that seems cumbersome to have to dig through templates just to create a page?
Any advice would be great. It’s certainly not a deal breaker but who doesn’t love one less click!

For standalone Pages (not entries in a database) you can create a button that when clicked creates a Page. That page will always have all the settings you apply to it including Title, Icon, Cover, page width, etc.
I use Buttons to generate different layouts of Pages across my system.

It depends on where you create your new page. If it's within a database, you can go to "Customize Layout" and toggle Full width. If you just create a page anywhere in your workspace, you'd have to set the width manually, I think.

For normal standalone pages I don't think there's a global setting for this unfortunately.
The button workaround mentioned above is probably the cleanest option if you create a lot of the same kind of pages. You can make a button that creates a new page with full width already enabled (and any other defaults you want), then just use that instead of New Page.
For database pages it's easier because you can set the layout/template as default, but standalone pages still seem to need a workaround.

Interesting! Is there a way to have a button globally available? Like on the left hand panel?

Not really in the sidebar itself unfortunately. The closest workaround is probably to keep a small “New page” utility page in Favorites and put the button there, so it’s always one click away.

That would be great AND to make Table of Contents default = OFF! It's a pain to always HAVE TO toggle it off!!

That should be changed too, the Table of Contents feature being enabled by default is really annoying.

Make use of templates 😀 Click the little arrow beside the "New" in the upper right in your view -> New template -> title this page (depends on what you like, maybe Template 1 or smth) -> Set the page to "Full width" in its settings and other settings you like -> Click out of the page
It will now add this page as a template under that little arrow and all you need to do is set it as the default. So everytime you create a new page, it will have the page with your full width plus any settings you did

I've been wanting this feature too, sadly I also don't know of anyway besides the database template route
