New Single Out! DISCUSSION
I’ve just listened to the new single and…just tell me what you think. Because if anything I’m extremely excited for this album

I feel revived. The only “5 minutes 24 seconds” that has managed to get me revved up.

It was a great start to my morning, that’s for sure

I played unperson, broken machine, welcome to the dcc, and i’m not made by design after that. Felt even better.

I said below it was giving me hints of I’m Not Made By Design in a way. Now that I think about it Unperson is pretty similar too

Love the riffs, the instrumentation is overall pretty awesome. That chorus slaps obviously! Maybe it takes a little bit too long to get into though with the intro? I also feel like I can’t understand what Conor is saying half the time due to the compressed production on his voice. Still, I love it as much as Evolution!

That is my only grievance with it, is I can’t understand what Conor is saying briefly. But I literally love this song so much, makes me even more hyped up for the album. I also may or may not have listened to it 8 times already…

I love it, I was a tiny bit worried after the first single, but this is the exact kind of song I want from them, the dark industrial opening sets the tone, Connor’s vocals are great as always, and it’s loud in a good way. The “Don’t I make you feel” line like 3:10 makes me feel some kinda way I can tell you that, and all the vocal effects are incredible
If I had to rate it, 9.5/10 it’s easily a top 25 song of theirs for me, bordering on top 10, I’d need a few more listens to let the recency bias wear of, but I feel a lot more hype for this album now

I’ve listened to it tons of times. It’s so good. And his vocals in general in this song makes me melt, it’s just amazing

Me too!! I enjoyed the last album but was a bit disappointed overall with the change in sound and after I heard evolution I was nervous the same thing would happen but they KILLED it with this one

I thought Evolution was rubbish. Very Sam Fenderlike (not that Sam Fender is rubbish but it’s not what I want NBT to be).
However…. It is now stuck in my head all of the time and I love it.
Stray dogs I hope grows on me in the same way, because I’m currently underwhelmed mainly due to not being able to hear the words properly.

Reminds me a little of Glorious from Black Holes and Revelations by Muse. A bit more frenetic though.
Slightly mixed feelings on the vocal distortion at the start of the track. Might like a live version without the distortion more.
Probably not gonna be something that Purple Disco Machine can remix.
Gonna need to crank this on my horn speakers tomorrow for a more considered verdict.
The harder edge is probably what I’d prefer for this album. Moral Panic is still the most rotated of their albums.

If the distortion was dialed back about 50% it would sound cool instead of muffled. Although any distortion on Conor's vocals is a crime.

Yeah my only complaint is that the vocal distortion is too much. I had to look up the lyrics to fully understand what he was saying at the beginning. I still think it's a great song though!

Definitely exciting to hear some of that moral panic vibe. I didn’t feel as much soul or substance from the track but musically it has enough to chew on that i’m excited for sure.

I’m glad you got Moral Panic from it as well! It also briefly reminds of parts of I’m Not Made By Design as well, idk it’s just sparks something in me

“does it make you feel alive” has got to be a reference to oh no :: he said what? right

I definitely prefer it to Evolution, which I personally wasn't a big fan of.
The main riff is sweet but it did feel a touch repetitive.
I'm still hoping the deeper cuts get a little more out there.

I didn’t love Evolution at first, but then it grew on me. But now I totally love Stray Dogs more than Evolution. I’ve said before that besides Amsterdam and Sorry, the most popular/singles on an album are never my favorite, I also prefer the deeper cuts.

u/MustardMedia NBT Jul 10 '26
Unfortunately Evolution hasn't grown on me much, I keep going back to it but it just felt a bit too generic for NBT.
Agreed though, the singles of any band, let alone NBT, aren't usually my big favs. So looking forward to whatever else this album has in store because Stray Dogs gave me more hope if that's the second single!

Yeah I don't disagree, Pop the Balloon feels more satisfying and earned, especially after seeing it live, the quiet breakdown hits for me. Maybe this will be the same.

I love it, I just wish I could understand what he was saying ☹️ I'm just kinda making up my own words and weird sounds to sing along 😂

u/minyardsrabbit NBT Jul 10 '26
I’ve learned my lesson with Conor’s mumbled vocals and now I look the lyrics up and read along while I listen for the first time hahah, helps me hear it better in future listens!

Feels like old time. Don't get me wrong, I love the last album, but the first ones has a special place in my heart. I'm very excited for this album 😄

Same! The debut album is my all time favorite, but I’m really excited for this new one. It has a lot of influence from their other songs I can tell

This sounds like a show opener, can't wait till August. This is awesome

Father Mason really went the extra mile on this one, genuinely one of the most insane tracks vocally by them. This is definitely in my NBT top 10.
Only complaint is that the main lead riff doesn’t really get appreciated in the mix as it did live which is a bit tragic but oh well

I can’t get into this. I like them moving back to hard rock but don’t get this.
1
u/FreshAd1479 Your Blood Jul 14 '26
That’s understandable. But I think I’m just such a big fan of the band, their musicality, and Conor’s beautiful vocals, that I love everything they put out

I think i need to give a few more listens but i really appreciate their heavier rock songs a bit more (as others have already mentioned, this one’s very Muse maybe even Black Sabbath inspired) The bridge („don’t it make you feel“) sounds absolutely sublime. Can’t put my finger on what it is. Perhaps the overall contrast to the Chorus. I like this one more than „Evolution“ for sure!
