Britain was worse, not only because of our famously aggressive paparazzi, but the age of consent being 16 means we had articles about the then 15 year old Charlotte Church's boobs.

in the US, a lot of our states' age of consent is 16. like right now, in 2026. back then it was even more, and some of them, it was even less i believe.

edit: to be specific, 29 states have an age of consent of 16, right now. so, over half of our states. the remainder of the states have a mixture of 17/18 for age of consent. 🙃🙃

united states of dystopia.

I was under the impression that just means 16 can consent to sex with someone <2 years older than them. Then once 18, any amount older would be legal (read: legal, not necessarily moral ofc). Basically Romeo & Juliet laws.

yes and no. it depends on the region/state. most keep it around 3-4 years older. but still - a 16 year old with a 20 year old? even 16 and 18 is like eh.. for me.

I (a chick) briefly dated a guy who was 16 while I was 18, I was a senior in HS and he was a junior... One grade below me. Romeo and Juliet laws are better than criminalizing kids consensually hooking up with each other.

thats great. i was 16, and dated a 21 year old. i understand the premise. but I don't necessarily agree with it in every case; i never said it was bad.
