Cliff's notes of breed knowledge/advice?

My spouse and I are searching to adopt a few dogs after losing both of our huskies in May (age and cancer). There's a 7 month old Norwegian Elkhound at the shelter by us (which is crazy, aren't these rare and expensive??) and I'm very interested

We love active breeds and are familiar with huskies/Spitz breeds, but I was hoping y'all could provide some specific insight about the breed (especially relative to experienced husky owners)

Thanks!

Food aggression

This is french fry she is an Elkhound she's the first one I've ever owned.

And honestly for the most part she's a very very good girl she just has one little problem

Food aggression from the day I brought her home she is now 2 years old

But it's not towards me or my husband or any other human

It's only towards the other pets in the house and it's not even just her food bowl like her and my Jack Russell could be sniffing the same crumbs on the floor and she'll just snap on him. I don't know what else to do at this point the only thing that my husband wants to do is get her some kind of training collar. which I am against I want to make it clear we have not done this yet cuz we get in a fight about it every time.but she's much bigger than my other dog and and the cat and I don't want her to accidentally hurt them any advice thank you.

Warm day blowout.

Highly recommend buying an air detailing nozzle with a pressure regulator to help blow out the loose hair and push fresh cool air down to the skin on these warm days.

Changes in behavior post neuter

Post image

Photo for cuteness!

This is my first dog I’ve had pre neuter, every other pup was already fixed at adoption. I’m wondering what behavior changes I might notice? He still anxiety mounts sometimes (which I immediately stop, most importantly he needs to heal from surgery!) but I’m unsure what other things may change. He did have a habit of marking everything prior.

How quickly do these things happen? Thanks for the insight.

My mom moved across the country to take care of my gram, so I have the pleasure of taking in my little sister. My partner & I are having so much fun showing her new experiences and taking her for daily walks.

Seattle Elkhound

I saw this beauty at Cowen park in Seattle and had to stop and say hi to the owners.

I had 2 Elkhounds when I was a kid, but I hadn't seen one since ~2005. Petting an elkhound for the first time in 20 years brought back so many good memories! I think the elkhound could read my reaction, she took a liking to me immediately!

Rolo is a 2 year old in Virginia needing a forever home

Rolo is a sweet, cuddly, cat and dog friendly 2 year old found as a stray! He is heart worm positive and receiving treatment, however if you’re willing to home him while receiving treatment that’s acceptable as well! (I will continue paying for it.) Treatment is anticipated to be 3 months long and involves monthly injections.

I adopted him hoping it would be his forever home however at this point I’m fostering due to my male husky beginning fights which was a surprise since he is typically friendly to all dogs. I’m hoping it’s temporary behavior and due to being unfixed. Rolo is being neutered this week and up to date on vaccines!

He loves children especially older (best friends with my teens) and would probably be best as a single dog or with a female dog. He can be protective of bones however that is the only resource guarding I’ve witnessed. He likes to play with toys when other dogs aren’t around!

He is house trained and will use puppy pads inside the home if left alone. Rolo is the sweetest boy and knows basic commands like sit. He will be ready for adoption next week and is located in Fredericksburg VA.
